NEW YORK, NY, August 28, 2006 – AMC has resuscitated an army of ghouls and monsters to celebrate the tenth anniversary of its annual Halloween movie marathon MONSTERFEST X. The 24-hour, non-stop frightfest takes place from October 22 – 31. MONSTERFEST X spotlights the creation of the horror genre from the early years of film to today’s contemporary thrillers, and encompasses more than 230 hours of fear-inducing and supernatural death-defying movies.
The lineup includes films from legendary directors such as John Carpenter, Clive Barker and Joel Schumacher, and iconic actors Lon Chaney, Jr., Boris Karloff and Bela Legosi starring as the genre’s original living dead in the definitive Universal Studios cult movies Dracula, The Wolf Man and Frankenstein -- films that launched the genre.
This year, AMC adds three new cult classics premieres to MONSTERFEST X: The Exorcist (1973) starring Linda Blair, The Lost Boys (1987) starring Kiefer Sutherland, Jason Patric and Dianne Wiest, and Wolfen (1981) starring Albert Finney.
AMC kicks off the movie marathon on Sunday, October 22, with the original Halloween, which first introduced us to Michael Myers, at 8 PM ET & PT/7 PM C followed by a DVD_TV presentation of the enhanced version of the film at 9:45 PM ET & PT/8:45 PM C. AMC is proud to also feature other popular horror film franchises:

Saturday and Sunday, October 28 and 29 at 8 PM ET & PT/7 PM C, AMC presents The Exorcist (premiering for the first time on AMC), Exorcist II: The Heretic, and Exorcist III: The Legion;

Tuesday, October 31, 24-hour Halloween marathon beginning at 5:45 AM ET & PT/4:45 AM C, starting with the presentation of Backstory: Halloween followed by Halloween, Halloween II, Halloween III: Season of the Witch, Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers and Halloween Resurrection.
Since 1996, AMC’s MONSTERFEST franchise has become a top Halloween tradition and television’s most popular destination for the avid horror movie fan, offering more Halloween programming than any other network on television. This year’s festival promises to be the biggest and most comprehensive showcase of horror on television.
AMC’s MONSTERFEST X will open a vault of fan-favorite horror titles, movies that have maintained a lasting generational appeal, which includes:

I'll end up watching the Halloween's, The Excorcist 1 & 3 (I'm dying to see how it's better than the original lmao), and some classics like The Mummy and Frankenstein.

I'm a huge monsterfest fan and I must say WOW, they really went all out this year. Glad to see they've brought Halloweens II and III back for the first time since 2003. Also, I had no clue this thing has been running since 1996. Thats crazy. I never knew about it until 2002.

So glad that the October tradition will continue. Nothing like kicking back on those chilly october days/nights and watching horror films on cable. Old school style .

It has nothing to do with whether or not their good movies. AMC doesn't own the rights to show them. I must admit though, it would be cool as hell if they picked up the rights to H6 and H20 and showed the entire series. They could just drop H:R for all I care heh.

Fucking jaw has dropped. DVD_tv for Halloween! Good lord, I couldn't ask for anymore. For anyone interested in this, make sure you tape it during this airing because it's my experience that they only air their dvd_tv versions one time. I dubbed the Friday the 13th one from last year and learned all kinds of neat stuff that I didn't previously know.

All in all it seems like they're going back to what worked with past monsterfests ala setting an entire day aside for a Halloween film marathon like they similarly did in 2003.

Last year was decent. The only one that I felt was under par was 2004. That one was a dissappointment compared the other ones i've seen.

I also just realized that this years will be starting sooner. The 'fest usually runs a week.
