In my fanedit of H20, I changed it for "Don't Fear The Reaper", so it looks like she's reminiscing about Annie. Makes more sense.

i think she was disturbed bcz she had a flashback of the night of the attacks in '78!

There is no reference for her to what happened because she actually didn't hear the song in H2, it wasn't like it was on the radio in the ambulance while she was being taken away. It was just a nod to H2 for us fans who would actually know what it was in reference to.

It wasn't the character of Laurie who was reacting, it was JLC herself. The song reminded her of the experience of having to wear a terrible wig and do nothing but lie in bed for the majority of a film.

it was a great homage to h2, especially since h2 is my favorite halloween movie and it's then first one i've ever seen and h20 being the second i've seen.
but i always liked to think that the song reminded laurie as well about the horrific events of 1978, even though she didn't actually hear it in h2. just something i imagine to myself

The scene works well as a homage but doesn't make any logical sense given we know Laurie didn't hear the song as it was part of the soundtrack for the film itself.
This 'unlogic' remains consistent as the girls are watching 'Scream 2' in their dormitory which is impossible with people in the first 'Scream' watching 'Halloween.' You can't reference a series that references you, it breaks that little thing called the 4th wall. I've seen a couple fan edits where it's HIII on the TV, and though I like that better than Scream 2 for the nostalgia, it makes even less sense as H1 is referenced also in that film, as we all know. H:20 has grown on me over the years but it still has it's own handful of problems. While I've forgiven it for ignoring the other sequels that were non JC related, as there was a lot of baggage to deal with there, the film lacks atmosphere. Being an 'anniversary' film as it were, it should have tried a lot harder to capture the feel of the first 2 films, especially the original. Cutting Ottman's score down to a few cues was a big mistake and added to the lack of atmosphere. They weren't subtle enough with Michael and imo, should have kept his full form and mask in the shadows until the last half hour or so. This would have gotten rid of all the masks that looked like shit for one, and made the reveal of her looking him straight in the face all that much more powerful. A couple more deaths with a bit more about Dr Loomis (say how he'd been in contact with Laurie, etc) would have made this a perfect movie for me. As it is, the film is still fun and an enjoyable watch, though it took me many years to really come around to liking this at all. I'm still a mixed bag about it and just realized I have no idea why I've spent the last 10 minutes posting about it in the 'Mr Sandman on the Radio' thread, haha. That is all.
