Black Christmas vs. Texas Chain Saw Massacre

The battle of the 1974 classics.

Both films in ONE way or another helped influence or redefine the slasher genre. Black Christmas was a basis for John Carpenter for Halloween, and Texas Chain Saw ... well, I don't think I have to explain that one.

Which one do you prefer/think is the better film?

I take Black Christmas myself. For some reason, I find that to be a creepier film than TCM.

Texas Chainsaw. I like Black Christmas, it has a nice atmosphere, but it in no way, shape, or form even comes close to Chainsaw in my book.

I just found Black Christmas more appealing, myself. Texas Chainsaw was definitely a gritty and uncomfortable film, but it just ... didn't click as much with me.

    That is a tough choice.

Both of them are great horror films and their influence can't be denied.

However, Texas Chainsaw Massacre edges out Black Christmas, but not by much.

TCM was one of the only movies that made me feel sick after watching for the first time. Black Christmas is good but a bit over rated in my book.

I like TCM for how uncomfortable it makes me feel but I love Black Christmas for how it scares me. BC for me.

I cared more about the characters in BC as well. Peter and Jess were most interesting. I just didn't really think one way or the other about the characters in TCM, except for the main guy in the wheelchair ... but that dude's a pimp, haha.

I've only seen Black Christmas once and liked it but I have seen TCM numerous times and love it. Chainsaw wins for me, but on repeat viewings of BC maybe that could change.
I'de say that there's nothing obvious about anything that happened here tonight.....not a goddamn thing.

i love Black Christmas and it is definitely in my top 5 horror films. i have seen it countless times and it still sends chills down my spine.
However, the original TCM is was just so original and made such a huge imact. Hell, wasn't it banned in a few countries?
I may enjoy Black Christmas more but I think the original TCM had a greater imact for its time.

TCM by a wide, wide, WIDE margin.

love both movies to death obviously, and TCM was one of the first I saw when I was younger. But I think BC is just way more creepier and it edges out TCM but not by much.

TCM is a very uncomfortable film to watch for me. When I saw it as a kid I think I had my eyes shut for most of it. Black Christmas on the other hand was not so much in your face to me. of course I was in my 30's the first time I saw it too so that may have alot to do with it. I just enjoy BC much much better.
Oh god. I'd like to think that I could outsmart him, but.. he'd so kill my ass!

Texas Chainsaw Massacre is just too good. No question here for me. Black Christmas was entertaining, and it's a good flick, but TCM's whacky characters win it for me.
