View Full Version : The Shape's mechanics jumpsuit

I'm looking for a mechanic's jumpsuit or something as similar as possible to the outfit worn by the Shape in the '78 original (I think some of the sequels strayed too far away from the look of that one, even more than the mask). It's something I've been looking to add to my collection for some time, and especially with Halloween coming up, I'd like to dress up as Myers this year, for the first time ... officially. I'm already in the process of acquiring a mask I've deemed worth my time and money, and speaking of which I'm dumping a considerable amount of both into this. But it's important to me. I've checked eBay on and off for some time with no luck. Nothing is quite what I want. Is there someone out there or someplace that specializes in perhaps replicating the costume? Not the cheap "officially licensed" ones you find in Spencer Gifts, which are about as effective as the blue-lipped trannie Myers. Anyone who can help? Thanks in advance:)

Just look at the collar. It's identical....the button on the left, the button hole on the right...identical.

what color did you get? the charcoal?

Nils
09-12-2006, 09:32 AM
Yes, it's charcoal. In my opinion, charcoal is the most accurate color because it changes depending on the light just as much as the jumpsuit in the original Halloween does.

These pictures have not been altered AT ALL, they were just taken with different lighting:

The charcoal thing is a big, big help, Nils. My next big dilemna was in choosing a color, because if you're going off the first movie ... you have several apparent options. But those pictures you posted made it all make sense to me. You've got the green-ish looking one from the scene where the Shape is outside of the school before he gets into his ride. You've got the blue-ish looking one from when he's busting through the closet doors at the end. See, I'm big into getting the details right, and I'm referencing both my '98 Limited Edition DVD and '81 Media VHS. They're the only ones I can trust as far as color detail goes. And really, with this movie, what's there to trust? So, my next one was onto the shoes. I'm with this last poster. Anyone help with Myers' footwear? Thanks everyone, I think my "costume" is coming along really nicely now with all the help:)

LordBoogeyman

Also, how do those jumpsuits run, size wise? I'm a 38" chest and a 32" inseam, the combination of which doesn't exist on the JC Penney site. Should I go bigger, smaller?

I'd say check out the movie and see how they fit the shape. Whether they're slightly baggy (in which case you would want to go larger) or more exact fitting (in which case you would want to go smaller).

I am amazed at how dead on those Big Mac coveralls are. I guess it makes sense since those were used in the film. Nils is the man!

lol Sorry Shape, I didn't mean to overlook you. Thanks for the link. I am buying them, I'm just deciding on the size. I guess Myers does tend to wear them a bit loose, well rather than them being fitted I'd say. At least in the first two. They look almost too small on George Wilbur at times. Shape, just curious, what size did you wind up going with for yours?

46-28 regular (yeah, I have ridiculously broad shoulders lol)
I think I originally got 44-30 but sent them back. I normally wear 30 inseam, but I seem to remember the inseam running a bit long on the coveralls... If you're a 32 inseam, you might think about going with a 30 inseam. 44 was a bit too fitted as you mentioned, so I went up to the next size -- like you said, The Shape wears 'em baggy!

I'm sorry but I find that vertually imposible. There is no way the color can change that drastically just from lighting unless you have a green light shining on the green one, a blue light shining on the blue one and a grey light shining on the grey one. Look at them! They are so very different!! The lighting in those pictures would not do that.

I've seen some clothes change even more drastic than that in different light. It's definitely possible and very likely given the material used.

any one no where i could pick up a jumpsuit that was used in zombies film?

It was the Carhartt brand.

Here's a link to a certain pair; if you don't like the look, go back a page and there are a couple of others. I believe that's the pair, though.

http://workingperson.com/products/76_81/1/849/Carhartt_Coveralls:_Insulated_Coveralls_X02BRN.htm l

If you get a pair, you'll need to definately grunge it up. Cheese graters, tear holes, add grease spots, blood, anything. You might want to cut the lining out of the suit, as well. It's what they did for the film because otherwise it made Mane too puffy.

The boots were light brown Carolina workboots, again with an aged over process done to them.

Fiberawptic

Didnt his coveralls look a little darker shaded then those, despite the dirtiness and blood on them?

ChrisYorkville

Yeah those are pretty much what he wears and like MyersFan said they ripped the inner lining out to make it a snug fit instead of the puffy look. The only thing is the patch on the left is different from the movie if that even matters.

Great thread. After all these years I had finally decided to put my own Shape outfit together; thanks for the info and link- I'm really liking that Big Mac worksuit from JCPenny; the charcoal is cool but I'm leaning towards navy.

I found a decent looking mask at one of those seasonal Halloween shops in the mall. I know that sounds bad; but it's a solid, heavy rubber and looks good to me- well good enough without being outrageously expensive.

Really looking forward to getting done up this Halloween. It would be cool to see some of your outfits when you're all put together. Here's the mask I picked up last weekend.

So, I'm thinking about ponying up some big bucks for a replica RZ Halloween mask. I want a jumpsuit to look good with it and my question is. Should I buy the Big Mac jumpsuit and just do some wear and tear things to it to make it have that look from RZ's Halloween? Or would it look just fine the way it is?

Also, what size do you guys suggest for 5'10" 185lbs.?

If your looking into the coveralls then go with Carhartts. They run anywhere from a few dollars on e-bay to 100 bucks in some of the stores. The square pockets style are the ones they used in rob zombies version.

^I saw that. I don't really like the look of the jumpsuit though. I do, however, love that mask.

Carhartt brand light brown coveralls.

Weather them up with cheese graters, oil, dirt, fake blood, whatever you want. Tears, holes, frays, make it dirty.

Oh, and you might want to cut the lining out of the coveralls. Otherwise, you'll be very hot.

It's next to impossible to find a pair of Big Macs on the JC Penny's site beyond regular size. There is a thread linking to regular size here, but Nothing beyond a 48 chest and 32 leg.

Quite right - And you would think this might even be enough for some people. I'm a big guy, but typically wear a 46 waist for comfort. I'm only about a 30 length; nevertheless, not knowing how long shipping would take, I ordered the 48-32 in question, just in case. (even though it says sized to fit over clothes) - Not at all - the pants part fit just right without other pants underneath, but the top was so form-fitting it was uncomfortable. Sadly, I had to return them...

I've been trying to find an alternative (last minute!) since last week. The ones at sears have (whatever brand that is) are huge on the bottom, but made me look like an idiot up top. Walmart has basically thickly insulated ones (too hot!). Every other 'traditional' store I hit up this weekend had zilch. I'm thinking I need to hit up a local supply store or something.... totally sucks though.

If anyone knows a place where a bigger man can get a decent jumpsuit like th big mac in the NJ / NY area, please drop a line!

If you had trouble ordering the Big Macs online like me, they're featured in the latest JCPenney's catalog (Fall and Winter 07). The charcoal looks great. They are a little long but hopefully they'll shrink some when washed.

I just went ahead and bought me a Blizzard Proof navy blue coverall from Wal-Mart. Yeah it's a bit thick and will make you sweat, but hell, if it means I'm the best looking Boogeyman in town, so be it. If your not willing to sweat just to have the honor of dressing as a horror legend, you have no business donning The Mask in the first place.
