Just curious...what is the first released "officially licensed" Halloween collectible? By this I mean something made for the public to buy ie: not lobbies, posters, pressbooks etc. Would it be the Wizard Video game? I am also not counting VHS and laserdisc releases. Were there any t-shirts or anything produced in the late 70's or very early 80's? I can't recall much at all and am not sure when the first mask was released.............Larry

Hey Larry. Can't give you an exact answer but the first official mask was the rare "McCain Myers" mask.

Considering it's age, and the fact that is was mass-produced, it is a very nice mask. Beats the Hell out of the DP's that are sold today, among other "official" masks.

Here's a pic...

DAMN....what an awesome Myers mask!!! It'd be cool to discover the origin of the mask and who made it. The tag looks nice as well! At first glance, it looks like a converted '75 Kirk mask with a fan made care tag attatched.

Guys, believe it or not that was the OFFICIAL Myers mask after the films release.

Just looking at the pic you posted, Larry, you can see how accurate it truly is. By todays standards you'd feel that we'd have the perfect mask, but as far as official masks go all we get is crapfests from DP and Cinema Secrets.

That, Larry, is not my personal Myers house. It belongs to the owner of the "Myers Basement". It's a secluded webpage that I had to scratch and claw for. He has made models of the Myers house, Doyle house, HMA, the police station, Elrod house, etc. Basically, any house seen or given any recognition in the series. He also owns page after page of exclusive/rare memorabilia.

A truly awesome site.

Here's a shot of the back of the mask. You can barely see the definition, but it's the official stamp on the back of the mask.

It was sculpted by Sam McCain of Horror Sanctum.

Wow...it appears that this mask may well be the very first official Halloween collectible. The guys over at www.michael-myers.net said that it's worth around $500 to $1000...IF you can find one. Do you have a link to the Myer's Basement page?...thanks, Larry

Later on today I'll get it. It's on my other computer in my Emails so I have to dig it out.

Yeah, it's a really rare mask.

The Michaels Basement website isn't there anymore. I tried to look at it yesterday but none of the pages work.

P.S. What year did the mask come out?

I got an email from the owner and he said he's working on getting it back up. I could email him for archive photos and ask for an update.

I believe the mask was made in 85.'

If we can pin down the year of the masks release we'll know if that came out before the Atari Game. I asked for details about the mask on MM.net and haven't gotten a response yet.......Larry

I might get something from TheHMA or Nils, for that matter. I'll do some hunting for ya'.

EDIT: I'm kicking myself now, but I had a webpage by a guy that used to work for DP during the time of the McCain mask. He gave a nice little history of it and all. I might have saved it into my bookmarks, so I'll see if I can't get the link for you soon. I noticed you got some replies on M-M.net. I know someone from Latex Mask Central was interviewed - he used to have a Shape mask from Sam McCain. I believe Mike does too. (Another Mike, mind you.) :)

hey guys, I know I'm outta my element here and you probably already know this but according to 'gamespot', Halloween was released in 1983. I'll bet your mask was released earlier than that. I hope I helped .........probably not though

here's a piece of information that you more than likely know too but whatevever...here it is

As Wizard Video was liquidating their inventory and trying to minimize costs, many copies of Halloween were sold with no label. The word “Halloween” is simply written across the cartridge in black marker. The label version is more sought after by collectors, but it is unclear which version is more rare.
