Im not exactly knowledgable on this subject, but I hear that stuffing a plastic bag or 2 into the top of the mask before u put it on should help/

Yes, stuffing with plastic bags or even sponges is the only way to fit a mask.

Neil, if you really want to have it lighter, then you have to repaint it...you have to use latex paint, so it doesn't crack. I'm not sure if you can just paint over the mask though since the Cinema Secrets masks have some kind of a glossy finish...maybe you can write a mail to Justin at www.nightowlpro.com and ask him if he would do it for you. Terry has always repainted masks but since he is in hospital, you could ask Justin...I don't really dare to do it myself since I've only painted blanks and don't know if it would work to repaint an already painted mask...I think you should consult a professional, and that is Justin! Just drop him a mail! :)

Looking for some opinions from you mask collectors. What do you consider the best H1 mask available? Not H2 or H4 or H5 but the best looking mask that most accurately recreates the look from the original '78 movie...........pics welcome! .......................Larry

A few days ago another member asked the same question, this is what I wrote:

If you want an accurate H1 mask, go for Lee Romaire's SECOND STAB. Very accurate, best to date. Another good option would be THE PSYCHO by Justin Mabry at Nightowlproductions. Also, THE NIGHTMAREMAN 78 is great. These are hard to find though and will cost you up to $300.
Terry's WARLOCK is indeed the best H2 mask, but not produced anymore since Terry is at the hospital fighting his cancerous brain tumor. God bless you, Terry!

Here are some sites for ya to visit:

www.nightowlpro.com
www.cemeterygateproductions.com
www.leeromaire.com

You can also get masks in the classifieds sections of
Nightowl (posted above), CGP (posted above),
www.michael-myers.net
www.thehma.net
www.creepyshit.com

Not as pricey but still cool:
www.Jackintheboxmasks.com

Good luck!

Thanks again Nils! Any chance you know what sort of $$$ I could expect to pay on a SECOND STAB? Can I still buy them from Lee direct? Sorry for all the questions but thanks again for your great responses!!

To be honest, I'm not sure if you can still buy them. The original price was $280 and the second run was $380 if I remember correctly. I'd suggest you to write Lee a mail and ask...and keep an eye on ebay. I've seen a couple of them there already!

Here are two very impressiv comparison pics...between the original hero screenused mask and the Secon Stab:

Id agree with Nils, larry---The Second Stab is as close as ur gonna get to the H1, tho Lee stopped making them Sept 1 in a limited run of 46 (Im waiting on good ole #35) if I remember correctly...I did see one on ebay a few days ago, but it went for like $425, but if money is no object, keep checking.

I think it's just personal taste when it comes to the best H1 mask. I like the psycho better, but I absolutely love the second stab and find it just as accurate. I think the Psycho is a more accurate stand alone mask, while the stab is accurate to what Nick Castle looks like wearing the original. By the way, what's up with Loomis' tie? Awesome mask, just sidetracked by the tie. Looks like Loomis has got a sweet tooth.

Question... i have the V1 High Detail Nighmare from MMP and as ive said before, i have to stretch the mask over my face, thus distorting the shape and features of the mask. It looks great on a stand, but doesnt really resemble The Shape when im wearing it. Since my mask is a thicker poured mask, what are the chances that the mask would fit a little looser on me if it had been a thinner poured mask? I contacted Terry from CGP about a Warlock and whether or not it would fit my face, and he said he would pour it thinner than usual for me if i wanted... but im curious if that would really do any good, seeing as how that would only take mere millimeters off the dimentions of the inside of the mask?

Since your mask is thick, it's hard to say what you can do to help the appearance while it's being worn. If your planning to display, a thickly poured mask is always the best option. Otherwise, a thinkly poured mask is the way to go in terms of wearing it.

The thing with the Psycho, IMO, is this: in some shots and some angles, it looks DEAD ON Halloween 1--but in other shots and angles, it can come off looking abit cheap and generic. Again, just my opinion.

Since Cinema Secrets has discontinued their H:R(H8) paint scheme.....your best bet would be to purchase their new "LM103" mask which is pure white. The H8 mask with the grey-ish paint is now RARE and is being sold for an average of nearly twice its original $40 issue price(so I'd suggest not altering your mask). Since you're looking for a mask that's more "white", the re-issue mask retails for about $24.99.......imo, a much more cost effective way of obtaining the mask you desire(considering a bottle of white mask paint would be $10 anyways).

Below I have attached a picture of a Michael Myers mask my husband bought years ago before we married, and I was wondering what everyone's opinions on it were... Personally, I think it is pretty close to the original, although it seems like there is too much black shadow/smudging in spots. And the hair is a bit flattened and mussed because the mask was in a box for quite some time before I dragged it out...

Just looking at 'it' sitting on the desk gives me a chill, as if it's Michael Myers himself. And when my husband puts it on, and asks me for a kiss, I get the creeps and can't even bring myself to do it...

Terrible. :D

So hard to find a good Michael Myers mask these days.

Funny, I go Halloween shopping for costumes all the time and they have great Freddy Krueger & Jason ones but for the movie that is based on the holiday, they don't have a good Michael Myers one. Terrible.

The main reason is in the mask itself. In what some people would believe to be a simple, plain mask is really a very complicated structure. The original Myers mask was very unique, and very distinct as well. The subtle curl of the lips, the cheeks, the eyecuts, and the hair - it's all taken into account. It's also been through legal issues with Don Post and Cinema Secrets, and the results are lackluster party masks.

Let's face it. Mass-produced masks, especially those based on licenses, are cheap. While recent masks centered around Friday the 13th and A Nightmare On Elm Street have been "acceptable," they are still very lacking in details and paintjob. If you take a look at www.michael-myers.net, the very first mass-produced Myers mask, named "McCain Myers", was very nicely done. The only thing wrong with the mask was the eyecuts, which were too round. Quality in mass-produced masks, in my opinion, have degraded from some thirty years ago to today. While some things have been improved upon, the detail/accuracy of masks have diminished.

I would strongly suggest to any fan of the series to purchase an independently made mask. They are made by the fans, for the fans. This is where quality is put into these magnificent works of art. If only a small group of artists who work on mass-produced masks could witness the work that goes into independant mask making, they'd realize how lacking publicly sold masks are. In some ways, I believe they do realize this, but in the society of today, it's all about the money.

At least we get the good stuff. :D

The H6 mass-produced mask is truly a piece of crap. It's WAY too big, and I'm thankful that my copy has hair that actual looks good now, as it didn't when I first got it. The whole mask looks ridiculous, and yet I still have it kept in my closet.

The mask used in Halloween and Halloween 2 (they were indeed the same), still exists. It was in Dick Warlock's possession until some years ago, when he sold it to a private collector. The price was very high, as you can imagine, and we probably won't ever see the mask again since that guy keeps it locked away. Here's a pic of the new owner, the mask itself and Dick.

Yep...the latex used for the 75 Kirks back then wasn't high quality, they mixed clay into it to be able to make more masks with less latex. During the time between H1 and H2, the mask wasn't taken care of at all, the paint faded, the flesh color of the Kirk came through, the hair matted and under Debra Hill's bed it already started to rot. The sweat and breath and all the moisture while filming really didn't do the mask and good...those Kirk masks they used weren't that high of a quality, and for an almost 30 year old mask it still looks pretty good...not to mention that Dick put the mask on a mannequin whose head was much to big and caused the mask to distort...:(

I'm just now getting a little more serious into collecting things, and I'm actually considering one of the pricier masks, if I can decide between a jackinthebox Nemesis V1, or the one similar to it I saw on boogeymanmasks. boogeymanmasks site seems to be down right now though... and I still need to convince my wife it's OK to go above $50 for a mask. :D

In the meantime, I do have a cheaper Don Post mask (from 2004?), similar to this one but with more detailed facial features.

http://www.hottopic.com/Assets/product_images/zm/666650_zm.jpg

The question I have for the pros here is this: See those little mouth holes? It's not a full slit, but between the little holes near the corner of the mouth, it IS slit. I was wondering if I'd be doing more damage than good by cutting out the slit in this mouth just a little bit, so it's more uniform? Would this make the mouth gape open too much? Does anyone who works on or has a lot of mask experience have any advice? I don't want to wreck the only one I have so far.

Then again, that may be one way to get a new one for Xmas! ;)

I would advise NOT cutting a slit, as the latex used for DP masks rip pretty easy. If you want accuracy, I'd advise you to order from www.jackintheboxmasks.com or www.boogeymanmasks.com.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I think I'll leave the DP mask the way it is. It's OK for general goofing about, but I'd like to invest in a good one for special costume parties and what-not. I've been considering taking up a few on helping out at a haunted house on Halloween, and I'd like a kickass mask to wear if people are paying money to come out.

I like the masks at jackintheboxmasks, I'm seriously considering the Nemesis V1. It's a bit more affordable than the ones at boogeymanmasks, but both look to be excellent quality.

Actually, I can't decide between the Nemesis V1 and the Killing Machine... hard to tell the differences between them with the provided photos. I like a more snug fit mask, but not too tight.

Yes, Jackinthebox is excellent quality. You can even make special requests. You can't go wrong ordering from Jackintheboxmasks.

I have always wondered what ever happened to all of those masks in the Silver Shamrock factory when the tour was being given by Cochran

If you recall, they show the Hagatha masks on the forms being sat on a table by a female worker, and all of the pumpkin masks that had and had not been painted or through "Final Processing."

With todays technology, they would probably just have replicated a couple of masks digitally over and over, but with 1982 technology, they would have actually had to have the masks.

If they were never destroyed, then they should still be floating around out there somewhere.

Does anyone know what ever happened to them?

Don't think they are still around. They were just random movie props and probably got trashed after production. And if you remember, many masks were also burnt during the movie, maybe they used those for them.

There have been fan-reproductions. I saw one just hte other day, but I'll have to look for it again.

EDIT: The H1 version, or H4 version? They don't look very similar, and there have been repos of both. The H1 version is bigger and much more complex while the H4 version is just a silver eye-lining mask with a red nose.

The RED OCTOBER is just the UNCLE we earlier talked about, it was originally offered by CGP (Terry). It's an OK H4 mask, but you can also wait 2 more weeks and get my "Touch of Evil". ;) :D lol. I'll be releasing a limited run of the mask. :)

Don't cut it, just try to get it down a bit with some water, then, if you are pleased, set it with hairspray and gel. Andrew did a great job on it, but because of the shipping the hair loses its style and you gotta restyle it. ;)

Nils is right--I used a mixture of hair gel and water to style it (not to much--just enough to keep it down), then when u get it finished, spray abit of hairspray over it!

I'm making a H9 fan film...but production is stuck due to the mask.

I had a friend who makes a good deal of masks working on some sculpts, but then they got busy and it's definitely not getting done any time soon.

I'm looking for a mask that resembles H6 or H1/H2 (defined features but nothing crazy like H:R) that aren't crazy amounts of expensive. What is the most highly reccomended? I've seen the 'Warlock' signature, but it's very expensive. I've been offered a second 'Stab', but the price was...how shall I put it...insane. I don't like the H4 mask (ie the Don Post 'masks')...but they're cheap as hell...

Cheap = good film budget.

Help, please! Opinions! Anything! :-)

Well, you pretty much have to style the hair on alot of these masks yourself as they arent always up to par after shipping. I admit the "pompador" thats on the mask is abit high, but that is easily fixed by restyling the hair urself.

I don't own this, but I plan on buying one as soon as possible. This is a vampire mask made by SPFX masks. What makes this a bit different is the fact that it's made out of silicone, which allows it to conform and stretch with your face. It basically gives you the mobility of a special makeup appliance but without all the hassle.

Just to give you an idea of how this mask works when put on, here is something that will give you an idea of that:

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b100/MarkWarner/spfx.gif

They're about 500 bucks, but I definately think it would be worth it. If any of you have an interest, the site is www.spfxmasks.com.

SPFX's work is great, actually one of the best mask makers out there. The mask looks great too and definitely worth $500, the paintjob is so detailed.
Although latex would move with your face just as good as the silicone does, you don't have to worry that much about the care...latex is much more volunerable than silicone. But beware, the mask in the gif animation was attached to the face professionally...it doesn't move like this when you just put the mask on. ;)

Great choice Ryan, go for it! :)

Yes...it is a Nightmare (and not a NightmareMan as HE says...)...but it may be a recast. We have discussed this mask on MMnet and it is very likely that it is not a legimate Nightmare...I mean, $65 is not bad, but if it's a recast...recasts are smaller, have less detail and sometimes distorted features...you should ask the dude where he got it from first and see what he says! :)

Sigh *yeah*

I had six people watching it... going from the Warlock how a lot of people watched it and I made a big profit I thought this one would do the same... nope. only one person bided and got it for $212. everyone messaged me and knew what mask it was... I don't know what went wrong.. Maybe because of the time I started it? who knows.

I really hate seeing it go....But I one day when I have lots of money...I'm going to track them all down and get them back... LOL mark my words. :p

For everyone who hasn#t heard it yet, SSN Silver Shampain Novelties is shutting down their HALLOWEEN mask production. They move on to other projects like the TCM, F13 and Valentine mask, but Myers masks won't be available after April 1st anymore.
Here is the email Sean sent me:

As of 04/01/06 Silver Shampain Novelties will no longer be producing any Michael Myers or Halloween related masks or products. Currently we only have 3: H20 V.1 masks left and 10: Pumpkinhead masks. There are also only 25: H20 V2.0 masks left to complete the run of 100. They will be available until 04/01/06 unless they sell out beforehand. We are not shutting down we are just no longer going to offer any Halloween related items. This also includes the Revenge II which will not go into production. Keep in mind this does not mean that it is open season for other mask makers to recast our stuff.

As for our future projects like the Valentine mask, Leatherface Chainsaw III, & Jason Goes to Hell undermask movie mold projects those are still going to happen. Right now we are still trying to get caught up with orders and I have no doubt we will get even busier during the final month these masks will be offered so please expect a slow turn around time if you order before 04/01/06. I know there is going to be a great deal of speculation as to why I have made this decision and for now I am going to keep that to myself. I was in no way forced to do this and it is 100% my decision. All of the questions will be answered in the coming months.

All of the current pending orders will be filled so don't worry about that. Thank you for your continued support. –Sean Clark SSN

Noooo!!!

I can't believe that the Revenge II is no longer being produced. I was so anxious to see it!! :(

SSN was a grade-A business for Halloween masks, it's unfortunate that they've stopped Halloween related material.

Thanks for the info, Nils.

Here's a stupid question, but I really don't know. How do you know what mask you have? Is there something in the inside of the mask that tells you? I can't remember which one it is that I own. I bought it roughly 10 years ago, I know it's not from 5 cause anyone can tell that one....

Edit: Never mind, I found it on the back of the mask.

Haha - most of the time a tag is supplied with the mask. If you collect indepent masks, they also usually come with the artists' signature, the mask number, and a personal tag.

Ha! I failed to mention that I got it at Spencer's! It says 85 or 86 Don Post. Perhaps, that's why I can't tell which movie it's from. Cause it SUCKS!!! It doesn't look bad compared to the ones on the worst masks list. Well???

I didn't know there's such awesome masks out there! Most of them in this thread look sweet. Might have to invest in a "Good" one...:)

I'll be honest; I don't like the Disturbed mask. Even if it's more accurate, it just seems way to exaggerated to me. I don't know - I just like the Second Stab and the Psycho over it.

By the way, what about the Maniac? The Disturbed and Maniac both seemed to appear at the same time - can you clarify the whereabouts of each mask?

Keep the mask. If it's from 85' or 86', it's a good keep. The mask is supposed to be from the first film - but just let me tell you, the story behind the Don Post "The Mask" is a long one.

I'd rather not discuss it.

I might add that only the '85 Don Post is worth keeping...if it's fleshtone, then it's a 85 Don Post. Those flesh THE MASKS are really rare and you should keep it...but if it is a '86 Don Post...well...you can sell it...you can get it at any mask store. ;) :p :)

I thought the current DP's were a newer mold? If not, I just know they had better definition. I thought it was released in 2000 as a newer mold. The 2004 mold is different too.

Well, he said that on the back it says '85 or '86. Even the newer releases of 2000 do have the 1986 stamp on their backs.

The one I have is atleast 10 years old, if not older. It's white, so must be 86, it's hard to tell. I'm not planning to do anything with it. I was just wondering which one I had. Haven't heard much good about 'ol Donny Post!:)

The hair is darker on this one than on the others out there which makes it much more screen accurate. I just snapped some pics!

this thread just continues to make me want to get into collecting masks more and more. have to say i also get a bit jealous as i only have three masks and they are all the store bought ones with two cinema secrets masks and a don post. have to say the don post if it wasn't for it being michael i'd have used it for the liter box it is so bad.

Here's my latest mask score...a simply jaw-dropping version of the killing mask of Leatherface from the original. This was commissioned (not by me) and made by Justin of Nightowl Productions. I have never seen a more accurate version....................Larry

They're both cool but I gotta tell you that Terry had a brain tumor last year and has begun working just some days ago and he still hasnt completely recovered yet. There are a hell of a lot of orders for Myers masks and all, so you will have to wait a long long time, up to half a year.

Yeah, he's okay now. He had the tumour removed last year and had very much trouble with speaking and moving his right arm. He had to go through a hard therapy and had to learn speaking again. He has reached a point now where he can slowly start working again but he hasn't fully recovered yet.

Hey guys, just thought Id send u a few "in process" pics of my Second Stab. I sent it off the gobears04 to have him repaint it, move the hairline up, and cut the hair abit. He's nearly done with the painting and still has to cut the hair--I think its turning out to be one of the best looking Myers masks period. ANyway, heres a few pics (if u want to see the before shots, they were posted on here a couple pages back)

Nope, it was the second run--Im #35 overall. I paid back in Aug and just got it in March...well, heres the completed pics with the hair cut! IMO, the SS is easily the most accurate H1 you can get without owning an actual Kirk---J really outdid himself on it and even did a better job then he did on his own masks!

Well, Lee was up front with all of us in the 2nd batch that it would be several months while he worked on a Stephen King movie. Originally, I was supposed to have it at the end of the year, then end of Jan---it ended up being the first week of March---along wait, to be sure, but well worth it!

Nils, I cant wait to see ur NMM78--still, after all these years, it stands as one of the best Myers masks ever! Mind if I ask how much you had to shell out for it??? (If u dont wanna divulge that info, thats perfectly understandable!) Posts some pics asap! :)

Yes, to me, the NMM78 is one of the best masks that have the "unworn" look (in contrast to the Second Stab, who has the "worn" look). The NMM78 is just a classic...it was one of the first accurate Myers masks made.
Well....about the price...lol...let's put it this way...it needs to be repainted, so I got it for a bit less than usual...so I didn't pay the usual $350 - $400 for this one. But I surely didn't get it for super cheap. lol. :p

I hear ya! The finished product does really not look the way it should. It seems as if Rob isn't very knowledgeable in maskmaking, he wouldnt have "recasted" his own mask then...and I think people got actually ripped off because he knew that the mask will be way smaller after recasting it than before. He didn't say a word...now he sold his masks, he has his money but the customers are unsatisfied. And honestly, I think it's really impertinent to offer those who bought the mask a discount on HIS NEXT project. WHO in the WORLD would buy from a maskmaker he had bad experiences with again???

MinioN
05-05-2006, 07:07 AM
Exactly! The scultp was top notch---but the painting and hair were really messed up as well! Then u throw in the whole small size and recasting thing---it was a real disaster!
