View Full Version : Attractive Ebay Auctions

We have a thread for getting good laughs out of absurd ebay auctions, however whenever I want to share one that looks pretty damn good, there's really no place to do so. So here's the place where you can post attractive halloween ebay auctions and hopefully find an interested buyer on the board. I'm not trying to play mod and make a demand, but it would be cool if this could be limited to actual good deals/rare halloween pieces. For instance the 24x36 halloween reproduction posters probably wouldn't warrant a mention in here :D.

I'll get us started with this LINK (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7531435527&category=60349&rd=1)

I can't recall if I've seen one of these on ebay before or not, but finally something to look at besides the H3 US 'rolled' on sheet :p. The seller appears to be honest. He points out characteristics that separate original foreign halloween posters from reprints and explains how his is infact an original. With that opening bid, it looks like a good deal.

Yeah thats basically the same thing, but "cool look at this" is rather vague". Maybe Paul can merge the two.

Clark, your thread was good but has a very vague thread title and is composed mostly of back and forth banter (not from you though). We're going to leave this open and unmerged with the other one in hopes of having a place for members to post good ebay auctions and ask questions about them.

I hope that's okay with you, Paul. :)

I want an H2o one sheet, but I'm having a difficult time finding one that i'm SURE is an original. The original ones have that curved logo in the lower left with the word "alliance" under it. It seems like everyone I look up on poster websites don't have that (something else is there). There's one one ebay right now opening at $1.99, but it's a little roughed up on the edges and has a pretty big crease at the bottom. For a movie as recent as H2o i'll wait and find a mint one. Josh posted the link to this website a long time ago that had the US one sheets of H2o and HR. It also had some H2o foreign posters. I can't remember the link though. You remember the site Mike?

I remember the site, but I don't remember the URL. OGS.com used to have them all. Dammit.

haha, no kidding Paul. I truly pity any uninformed buyer who even considers placing a $35 bid on Halloween: homecoming. It's right up there with the H6 d-cut for being the lamest alternate/early cut in the series. I'll admit, I own it, but I didn't pay near that much.

i know what you mean, i have been looking for it for a while. i guess timing and luck mean a lot. the funny thing is that i was in the turkish H4 thread and i figured why not do a search on the french H20 poster. i hadn't done a search in a while, so i figured what the heck. i guess i didn't use the right wording in the ebay seach because i didn't get any hits. so then i tried a google search and it lead me to the ebay auction. sort of a round about way to get it, but i found it at least. another funny thing is when i found it with google, franchise posted, suggesting i look up the seller, pgmovies, just about a minute after. like molly says in H20, it was fate!

I have noticed one VERY strange thing about this H5 poster.
If my eyes see correctly, at the bottom right corner of the poster it shows the Dolby Stereo logo. MISTAKE....H5 was recorded in Ultra Stereo, not Dolby. In fact the first Halloween print to be recorded with Dolby was H20 which was recorded in Dolby Digital , DTS and SDDS. Remember I'm talking about the theatrical releases, not the DVD's or VCR's
Is that a Video or Theatrical poster??

You have a valid point Paul. Ultra Stereo was not as big as Dolby overseas but the prints were still recorded in Ultra, not Dolby. Ultra processors will process Dolby and Dolby SR just like Dolby processors will play product originally recorded with Ultra equipment. I assumed the one sheets indicated the stereo choice of the original printing, not the playback choice. It's a mystery to me. I wonder what the US one sheet for H4 and H5 indicate?? National Screen Service would have sent the same one sheet to every US theatre not knowing which stereo system they were using. There is a lot of Ultra systems in the states.

Interesting.....B.A.S.E. is a company who has done IMAX stuff and other special recording work.
I'm still wondering if that H5 poster was originally a theatrical or Video store release.

Well, I was the one who won the poster, and it said it was from the original 1989 release, but it doesn't say if it's from theatrical or video release. If you want to look at the auction, go to eBay, and type in 7534115001. I myself, think it's from the theatrical release.

If only I had known these would come on Ebay right after I had already seen and bought the H4/H5 laserdiscs, which haven't arrived yet, and weren't auctioned with their pictures. So I kind of took a shot in the dark.

I don't think I've ever seen the actual theatrical trailer for H5. I'm convinced that the one Anchor Bay included on the dvd is nothing more than a teaser. It's far too short to be a full length trailer and is structured like a teaser would be.

That's a good question Paul. I can't honestly say that I can't remember viewing a full length trailer in the theatres for H5 but I can't imagine the distributor not running a 2 1/2 -3 minute theatrical trailer though. There are full length trailers for ALL other Halloweens so I've got to assume one does exist.

When there was about 3 Hrs left and I was the only one bidding, he just deleted the auction.. Maybe he forgot to set a reserve price or was just mad I was going to win with such a low bid. I was mad at first, but i got a much better one for a few $ more.

Yeah, people close their auctions early all the time. Sometimes it's because they don't think they're going to get the price they want, others it's because people make them an offer they can't refuse (which is against eBay rules). The latter has happened to me more times than I can remember on some choice "Halloween" items, thanks to one particular collector... :(

Yeah... eBay auctions are closed much too frequently by the sellers nowadays. The most abused reason being, imo, is eBay's own "error in the listing" option on the "end my auction early" option. The loophole is that seller's *can* disguise their true reason(s) for ending their item early, which is still occuring in auctions with at least 1 bid...despite being against eBay's rules---that reason being: the item isn't selling for the desired price.

I agree with MrTaft...I've been burned by that same particular collector(on eBay) more times than not.

I remember when i was trying to get my hands on a Halloween II Thorn EMI Betamax tape.I remember coming across 1 on ebay & the seller had it at a really cheap price.I turned out to be the only bidder & i won the auction. The next day i got an email from him saying that the reserve price hadn't been met & he couldn't sell it to me.I emailed him back pointing out to him that his auction made no refrence of there being a reserve price.I'm guesing he was abit pissed off because there was only 1 person intrested in the auction & he didn't get as much as he wanted for it.Anyway i let him keep his tape & within a few weeks i picked up a Betamax copy from another seller.

cheers

yeah I always wondered what sellers do when they start their auction at 1 cent or 10 cents and only get one bid and are gonna LOSE money on the deal.........they just cheat and pull OUT of the deal.

Has anyone ever won something for a penny or a dime??

Ebay! (http://cgi.ebay.com/HalloweeN-II-Soundtrack-LP-French-Import-Michael-Myers_W0QQitemZ4846557706QQcategoryZ306QQrdZ1QQcmd ZViewItem)

Looks like a pretty sweet deal on a fairly rare item. You can tell the seller knows what he has and that the product is legit.

Also, does anyone own these (http://cgi.ebay.com/HALLOWEEN-II-4-ORIG-8-X-10-STUDIO-STILLS_W0QQitemZ7597202717QQcategoryZ18826QQrdZ1QQ cmdZViewItem#ebayphotohosting) stills? I've never seen the one with Rosenthal before.

Whoa, I think you stumbled on something very rare. The second photo seems to be an item mentioned before, which they said was pretty obscure. I've never seen the Rosenthal picture either. To me this just seems like a hot set of cards to come by.

Those stills were all part of the H2 US presskit, except for the one with Mrs. Alves.

Sean Clark was selling a few of those H2 stills on the horrorshirts site last year. He had the one with Rosenthal for sale, as well as a few other ones from that set. They were pretty cheap there, so they may not be very rare.

Yep. That's one of the most common H2 stills. It's used in most of the lobby card sets, too.

Hey YENSED I won't screw ya' dude. I have a 100% rating on EBAY haven't had a problem w/shipping to anyone. If it makes you feel any better i'm in the TORONTO area which is as South as you can get besides Niagara to the U.S. Border - Ha, Ha! That by the way is the only Cap I have.

The Haddonfield Map mini Poster is bigger 11x17 and obviously made for display purposes while the one I did for the Convention Program centerfold is only 8x12.

If you end up buying more than one item we could work something out w/the S&H too.

Thanks for looking Guys :)

That Halloween print is already over $300. For those of you who might have an interest, PLEASE be aware.......the print offered for sale is an original, 1978 release and the color would HAVE to be very, very RED. It would be very hard to watch.

Myers63

I have the very same example of an H1 35mm theatrical print that is on eBay right now.

Visually, my print exhibits only the most minor "pinking" in the very bright outdoor scenes. I had my print professionally cleaned and the specialist that did the cleaning said it looked "very, very well" for stock that was as old as it is(1978, of course).

I suppose it's all in how it was stored. The print I acquired had been stored in film canisters and within a dark, temperature controlled environment.

For those that want to bid on the H1 print that's currently on eBay, I say go for it! I'd suggest asking specific questions, perhaps asking the seller to pull off 15 feet of film from each reel and have him/or her give you a visual inspection: i.e., any signs of red/pinking, splices, major scratches, etc.

Good luck to anyone on the board that might be on the market for that H1 print---you just might've found one that had been properly taken care of :)

If you plan to bid on this print, do yourselr a favor.....email the seller and make SURE there is no vinegar odor to this print. If there is DON'T BUY IT.....PERIOD. The vinegar smell will only get worse and it will become unrunnable as a 35mm print. If there is no vinegar odor now there is a much better chance that the film will survive a few more years.
