1)Dawn of the Dead
2) (close second) NOTLD - this movie was way ahead of its time (1968). I've never seen that amount of gore in a movie that's 35+ years old.

Day had the best gore and visuals IMO, but the best movie of the 3 was Dawn. It had the best story over all.
I also loved Night, but I think Dawn is the better of the three.

Day of the Dead. Bleakest outlook, best script. But all three are classics.

Dawn of the Dead. It's just so great!

Night and Day hold their own though. All 3 are what I call "classics."

George Romero knew how to make a zombie film. :)

i cant choose between Dawn and Day,

all three are better than above average filmmaking. masterpieces!

From #1 being best to #5 being worst:

1) Dawn (1978) :D :D :D
2) Day
3) Night (1990)
4) Night (1968)

5) Dawn (2004) (does not really count for me...had to separate from the rest...lol)

However, there is no "worst" and I really appreciate them all. In fact, I believe that both Nights kind of tie with Day for me...but the original Dawn definitely sets the bar for superior! I just crave one over the other sometimes, but they are ALL damn good because Romero, Russo & Savini are stinking geniuses (sorry if I left another big guy out...lol)! :)

The remake of the first two were good, I haven't seen the originals. The original NOTLD sent me to sleep and I got really bored with Day of the Dead... So I'm going for Dawn.

now that I've seen all 3...I don't know if I could pick one...they're all great IMO..Might have to just go with NOTLD for it's black and white appeal.

I liked Dawn for the atmosphere (the mall, the characters) and I liked Day for it's script and it's over the top gore...not to mention Bub

Dawn of the Dead. It was on last night on Sci-Fi at 10pm, so I got my parents to tape it for me. Watched it an hour ago. Much better than the other two.

Sadly, I have only seen NOTLD and Day of the Dead.:(

I'll have to go with NOTLD, just one of those classic movies that appealed to me. After reading all the other posts, looks like I'll have to get my ass to see o.g. Dawn

I enjoyed Night Of The Living Dead the most because I think it had a great atmosphere due to it being in Black and White.

Night of the living dead. Truly a great classic.

All 3 films are good. But Day of the Dead is superior to me. I loved the claustraphobic atmosphere, the dialogue, and it had the best characters from all 3 of the films.

Dr. Logan, Rhodes, Bubs

"Wah hey Bubs"
"What the Fuck is wrong with you people. THEIR DEAD...their all, fucking dead. You people are teachin them tricks."

I love those lines.

So, it kinda goes in order
1. Day of the Dead
2. Dawn of the Dead
3. Night of the Living Dead

So every film got better to me :D

I just re-watched all of them again so I'm gonna bring this thread back around.

Out of the three I have to say Day of the Dead is my favorite. All of it is one big stringent and miserable situation...which is unusually uproarious at times.

Rhodes and his men, which he commands and uses to push everybody else around, made an enjoyable viewing. They were ruthless, racist, volatile and a lot of other things...I loved how they ruled with an iron fist and acted tough, yet when the shit hit the fan, they panicked badly.

Next to the rants that Rhodes delivers, it's my favorite part to watch. You get to see Steel, the giant tough brute evolve into a frightened man who runs away from trouble then once again change back into the aggressive form and kick some ass. You see the not-quite-there clown of the group Rickles shoot off into full blown lunacy. You see the fearless Rhodes broken down into nothing within seconds.

This is hard, but I like all 3 in different ways. But I guess Dawn stands out a little bit for me, but not by much, or maybe not at all, compared to Night. Night and Dawn are my faves I guess. But Day is really, really good too.

There is far more going on in that flick then just Ken Foree. It really surprised me that all he could find for work after Dawn was B-rated DTV films. Can't wait to see his smiling face on Devil's Rejects.

I like Day of the Dead the best. It's one of my favorite zombie films, along with Lucio Fulci's Zombie and Return of the Living Dead.

I love them all but i have always been more drawn to Day of the Dead, i think despite the budget cutbacks and last minute script changes it successfully captures end of the world feel it tries to evoke, Bub is a wonderful character and the futile arguments between the scientists and the military are exceptionally executed. Of course the Savini effects are magnificent and i have always loved John Harrison's score.

I like them all. That includes Land of the Dead, the Night of the Living Dead remake (1990) and the Dawn of the Dead remake.

However, I thought that Day of the Dead had some characters which were completely useless and served no purpose (such as a few of the soldiers, like Torrez and Miller). I say that because in both Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead, all of the characters from those two films were quite important to the story.

The 1990 NOTLD is my all time favorite movie. I still love NOTD 68, Day,and Dawn. Seems like old school is the best made movies. I dont care much for the new dead movies, and i certainly HATE Land of The Dead, it seemed like the movie was based more towards Dead Reckoning than the actual zombies.

I love all three, but I'd have to go with NOTLD if I'm forced to choose. Dawn would be a close second.

However, if Land of the Dead is included... well I think that would take the cake for me.

My vote is for NOTLD.. not because it's necessarily the best, but it's the first "scary" movie I ever saw... so it will always have the special place in my heart. And it *IS* the granddaddy.

It's also the first movie where the ending double crossed me. YES! He lived.. YE.. what the hell?

They're coming to get you, Barbara!
(Great throwback to that in Shaun of the Dead, by the way)

They were all excellent films. Each one presented a different element. Night gave the sense of astonishment and confusion, Dawn gave the sense of terror and hopelessness, and Day furthered those elements.

Dawn is my favorite because it left me feeling terrified, disturbed, alone and hopeless.

Sick isn't it...
