Not counting the Michael Myers Teen Novels or comic books. There are 4 Halloween Novels based on the movies.

Halloween
Halloween II
Halloween III
Halloween IV

One thing about these novels is they will sometimes include scenes that never featured in the movie. And in some cases you may well have enjoyed the novel abit more because of this or perhaps the novel went into more depth regarding a character or a scene.

So out of the 4 novels above which 1 did you enjoy the most?

Even if you haven't read all 4 novels,if you've only read 2 or 3 of the novels then you can compare them & choose the 1 you enjoyed the most.

cheers

I've read novels 1-3 and haven't finished 4 yet - I got up to the point when the rednecks meet Dr. Loomis and the Sheriff at the police station.

With that being said, I'll start out by saying that the WORST novel is indeed the original. Curtis Richards is an adequate author, but his way of writing Michael in mostly every aspect is not what John Carpenter would have approved of. Plus, he totally ruined the ending. Well, you'll see if you read the novel.

H2's novel is fairly leveled with the movie. I appreciate the extra parts, where we learn more about the characters, and the many situations related to the terrifying night. Also, you can't deny the picturesque descriptions the author, Jack Martin, uses - especially during the hospital scenes.

Now we come to the BEST novel, and the one I enjoyed the MOST. :) Halloween III. Terrific from beginning to end. There is so much to admire in Martin's descriptions, vocabulary, character development, etc., and I feel that the novel is even better than the movie. The gloomy attitude is appropriately used in the book yet lacking in the film. The character development and their personal feelings are expanded upon and explored to such a valuable level. His imagery, extra scenes, *symbolism*, *irony*, and other literary elements really sold me, and I greatly applaud this gem of a book. Martin may have written a worthy H2, but his H3 novel is far better.

I voted for H3, but really cannot decide between that and H2. Jack Martin (Dennis Etchensen (sp?)) really does a great job adding in the extra stuff. His writing made me feel like I was right in the same room with the characters being scalded with boiling therapy pool water, snakes coming out their Silver Shamrock masks, and Myers walking right towards you with a scalpel.

I read H2 in two nights. I simply could not put it down. I have read all 4 movie tie-in novels and would really like to find some of the teen novels. "The Mad House" sounds really interesting. Has anyone here read them? If so, what did you think of them?

I loved Halloween because of the detail....not crazy on a horney Michael but I thought the writing was great. The second one was okay but too much exactley like the movie for my taste. I dont like H3 so why would I want to read the book? lol (but ive heard it was a good book ) and H4 was a lot like h2 IMO. They were all done well tho but I like Halloween the best.

Why, Halloween IV: The Special Limited Edition, if I do say so myself. But 5 looks good, too even though it's not done yet, and 9 just might be even better!

I'm so glad you're liking Diverse Tales....getting a lot of great feedback on it. It's the main thing I'm promoting as I make my tour rounds this year, and I really want it to do well. After all these years, it's my first collection.:)

I would have to say Halloween 4: The Special Limited Edition. I really liked the added stuff with Jack Sayer, which I always thought his character should have had not a large part in the series, but some bigger role than what was given. I think it would have been fun and interesting. Nick did a great job adding a wee extra. Halloween III was really good too though. Even if you didn't care for the film, the novel is very different. It's a shame that not any of the films after H2 & H3 have touched on the holiday of Halloween's origins to further the story with Michael Myers or mention something related to it like Samhain in H2. H6 did though also, but I suppose that is said now to never have happened.

Having just noticed that your also from the UK.If you are just using www.ebay.co.uk that might be 1 of the reasons why your having difficult in locating the novels as there isn't many UK sellers that put these novels up for grabs. However in saying that i have seen a few UK sellers having the Halloween novel,Halloween II novel & even the Halloween III novel up for grabs.Sometimes it is just your luck.

i think there is a Halloween III novel up for grabs over at www.ebay.co.uk just now.

cheers

I know that everyone's entitled to their own opinion, but I am surprised the original Halloween novel is winning the poll. First, and I don't mean to sound like a jerk, but I'd just like to say that hopefully all of the voters have actually read books 1-4 and fairly evaluated them. It makes no sense to vote for one particular novel without having read one or more others. Second, the H1 novel is all-around a good read, especially when you're a fan of the movie as we all are, and are interested in factors that can only be experienced in book form. With that being said, I think it is lacking in certain areas. Richards' use of description, imagery, and other literary elements did not match, in my opinion, up to the great amount of effort that Martin and Grabowsky put into theirs. It's as if they knew what they were doing. Richards probably did not.

He failed to understand basic elements of Carpenter's movie and incorporated some unfavorable ones into his adaptation. For example, his description of Michael as purple-eyed, red-lipped, and green-suited is quite off the wall...is he trying to describe a clown? It makes The Shape sound like a joke. Or how about the way Richards believes in the viewpoint that the sluts will die and the virgin will survive? Or the way he over-detailizes the fooling around between Judith and her boyfriend...right down to what mask he wore and how he fondled her body. It's like Peter Benchley's JAWS all over again. "I want to write porn, but I'm stuck with this horror book, so let me derail for a while and arouse my readers and self."

Don't even get me started on how the ending - from Laurie walking over to the house to the last moments - is completely MISHANDLED. Talk about awkward writing that even confused me after a few rereads.

All in all, parts 2-4 have a better flow, and I can tell the authors had more experience under their belt. Or perhaps they just have a greater knack at pulling off a movie tie-in, who knows?

The first novel was incredible because it wasn't just a word for word retelling of the story. It gives many of the characters more substance and depth. The added scenes were great because it gives the reader some insight into MM. Writing from MM's perspective in some scenes was also a real surprise as the author actually takes us into MM's mind!! The prologe was a nice touch along with the mention of some Myer's history.

love this book!

The special edition of H-4 by Nic was a wicked read. The idea of adding and expanding on chapters really gave Nic a chance to put his signature style and ideas into the story. He made the novel better than the movie. He is an author I hold in high esteem

Doesn't it cost more to put it up at e-bay.

Also what the hell is the seller going to do with the penny I give him for the novel?

I only read the first one, way back maybe twenty years ago, and from what I remember it was kickass. I might check out the third one some time.

Do check it out. I think H3's novel is better than the first two. Quite an interesting and well written book.

I think they're all very good, in my opinion. Nick, of course, made his even better with the H4 special edition, something I wouldn't mind seeing for the first three as well! :)

Halloween II had more then a few black and white photos in it, if I recall.
Halloween I talked about the trial(or hearing) of Myers in 1963, after he killed Judith. I read that chapter in 8th grade sppeech class and the teacher thought it was a real case!

Hey guys!

I know most fan boys/girls like to think of Michael as pure evil with-out reason. But if the idea of Cullain and Deirdre from the Halloween novel had been put into the first film as it was in the book, would it have been more acceptable to the fans than the Curse of Thorn? For those who don't remember, in the book Michael seems to be possessed by the ghost of a deformed young Celtic man named Edna who murdered a Celtic princess named Deirdre and her boyfriend Cullain because she wouldn't marry him. Edna is cursed to wander the earth re-living his act forever. His spirit possesses Michael and hence Michael is a monster. I thought it was bizzare when I first read it, but it did make more sense than Thorn.
