View Full Version : Halloween Menus

This thread is about Halloween DVD menus, and I decided to make one because something I learned today is ticking me off. My cousin bought an H2 (Universal) DVD not too long ago, and when I went to take a look at it this morning, it didn't contain a chapter menu sheet or any sheet whatsoever. Then I was talking to a member tonight and mentioned in passing that I thought it was weird his didn't come with one, yet mine does (and his as well). Next I ask whether his H3 DVD has a menu sheet, knowing mine does NOT (just a small booklet containing other horror DVDs), and he's got one! All this time I thought there wasn't a menu sheet made for ANY release of (Uni's) H3 because I figured mine was like everyone else's.
The question I'm posing here is, why would Uni manufacture some of their DVDs with a menu sheet (which I find to be very useful, and should come along with all DVDs for reference), whereas others do not? It doesn't make any sense at all. Now I feel kinda ripped off for not having an H3 menu.
BTW, this thread can also be of use to talk about other menus for Halloween movies in general - even screen ones.

Many companies are doing away with their inserts (Menu sheet). Universal started it and many are following suit.
The more irritating trend for DVDs are unskippable trailers at the beginning of the DVD!!!

the reason they have them is so you watch the trailer for the movie thats coming out... or is already out and will purchuse a ticket or the movie...

For completist reasons, it looks like I might have to buy another H3 DVD :(
Makes no sense at all.

I think we all know that. Im not against trailers and understand the concept of a trailer. But to force us to watch them before the feature on a DVD is ridiculous. Include them in the Special Features and let us choose to see them.

I might have a scan of the insert buried in my computer somewhere. DVDCA used to host inserts and custom inserts because of this problem. If I can find it, I'll send the file to you. All you have to do is print it out.

Sounds good. I'll take you up on your offer. :)
Matt and I were just talking about screen menus for the Halloween DVDs. We agree that Anchor Bay's menus are lacking because the scene selections are titles-only and do not provide stills or clips to guide you to the scene you want to watch. H25's chapters are entirely too vague to be helpful. One thing I have to credit GoodTimes with is for having movie clips for each scene selection and music to go along with it to liven it up, unlike Universal's editions. To be fair, H3's Universal menu is not so bad, actually...there may not be music, but the stills are satisfying enough.

And one of the beginning selling points of DVD's were the fact that you wouldn't havre trailers before the film, unlike VHS. Wow, they broke that fast.
And a lot of movies now a days are coming out without their trailer on the DVD:( I liked the Dawn remake trailer.
And I think all my Halloween DVD's came with menu sheets. Even 6, though the chapters were on the inside of the front cover through clear plastic.

So what is your favorite DVD screen menu? Mine is a tie between H3 Universal and H6 because they both provide stills in the scene selections against an appropriate background. The graphics in the H3 one really make for a nice menu. H2's Universal would have also made the cut if it wasn't for the drab main screen. Just doesn't do much for me..even the cover is boring. H4 and H5 should have a mention for the cool background music and clips from the movies. I think they're awesome.
But the worst menu of all is for H20. I think it's terrible. They could have done a much better job instead of what they were shooting for. Those of you who know what I'm talking about will understand.

I'm getting sick of DVD's without menu sheets and the newer ones with unskipable trailers. As much as I'm paying for these things, I want the whole DVD experience. DVD was great when it first came out, now they're just gonna ruin it by not giving fans what they want. I also want to have original theatrical trailers and MORE special features. What's the point of paying for a DVD if I can't have some special features?
