View Full Version : The Short Scenes and Very Minor Characters

There are many minor/short scenes throughout the series. I always seem to remember them the most instead of bigger scenes and important stuff. The one scene I remember the most is the scene in HII with the boy who cut his tongue and his mother. There are three distinct scenes with these two 1)them arriving at HMH 2) their encounter with Jill ( and i think they were treated very poorly by her) and 3) as they leave. I may be reading too much into this but do you think they mean anything do was this just a way to expand on the movie (more time) and tell about the surroundings?
Another minor scene that sticks out to me in the series is the scene with Casey and her mother. This is one of my favorite scenes. It proves that Michael is different compared to other slashers/ killers; he almost takes pity. For a split second I think Michael contemplates killing them but decides against it. What do you think?
There are also other scenes in which we are introduced briefly to minor characters. Such as Wade in H4, Paul on the phone ( we are able to gather a little of his character) in H, Tina's friend at the Tower Farm party ( he wants to see her naked), to a certain extent the goofy cops, Nora proves to be a kind of minor character.....
So I guess the reason for this thread is that I think these minor characters add something to the overall feel to the movies. And my question is what do you think happened to these people (other than the ones we know are dead)?

well, i think in H20 casey and her mother probably stayed at the rest stop for a while until a kind stranger picked them up. Their small role, definately gives a good feel to the movie because it explains how michael gets around, and steals his rides, and shows other peoples fear towards him

I dont know if he pitty on them.....or what his line of thinking was. i was suprized he didnt kill them....but Michael doesnt really like to kill children it seems (besides Jamie) he almost has a soft spot for them and in a lot of ways hes like a child himself. If it were just the woman I think he would have killed her.

ya maybe if the kid wasnt with her he probably would have killed her thats probably why he never killed jamie, because he cant kill a child

Minor scenes and characters always bring something nice to a movie.
One scene I enjoy is the one where Karen, Bud, and Jimmy are relaxing in the break-room.
I like the nice cozy feel of it - the small TV w/ minimal volume, the few tables, nice little snacks such as a small cup of coke. They are all working late and feel secure in the brightly lit room although somewhere out there is a killer slowly making his way towards them.
I love that aspect of the scene and I sometimes wish I was sitting there w/ them just sipping some coke.

Gary and his mom, yeah they just really fit into HII I think. I like how them Characters find themselves in the middle of whats going on! they make the movies great for the Reason of they are playing the roles of us! the people that don't have anything to do with whats going on in the movie! thats what makes those characters great for the movies!

I think what happened to Gary and his mom is that they did just what she said they would do that evening: play board games...and i think gary never tried to kiss a lawn mower ever again :D lol just kidding
maybe he decided to go into the medical field just because of that night....to help people who have injuries just like he did (and to correct the corrupt nature of the medical world ie the way Jill treated them)

the small charactes and scenes are great. they do add the feel like evryone said. now about casey and his mother....i dont think he killed them becuz he just doesnt have a reason. remmeber(if u add the 4-6 storyline) he only kills his family and those who get in his way. casey or the mom didnt do anything so he didnt kill them, but if they did something, then he would have. even if you dont add 4-6 it still applies really. in H2 he walked down the street passing several ppl while walking to the hospital. he didnt touch anyone there.

As for Casey & her mom, Micheal had the keys so there was no reason to kill. Had the mother came out when he grabed the purse. Micheal would have killer her and maybe the kid. As Jill interaction with Gary and his mother. What was she going to tell mother? Since she wasn't sure where Dr. Mixter was.

One of my favorite minor characters is the Reverend in H4. He's a very strange character.
And I also thought Ms. Blankenship in H6 was a creepy character.

I remember reading an interview with John Carpenter on his thoughts of H20 and he mentioned this scene as being one of his favorites of the film

Agreed.
AGREED!!!
THIS is what I was talking about w/ my earlier post on the first page.
Small, unimportant characters like this add so much to the movie.
I loved Robert Munday in H2 because of his calm sense and secure feeling.
I'm sure he didn't feel dangered out there in front of the Myers house and other places where he was interviewed - yet Laurie Strode is mysteriously stalked continuously and she CAN'T escape Michael.
It is a great aspect to the film.

Wow, I suspected that everyone overlooked my post - I'm glad you three agree.
I love watching small scenes in films and wondering if they have something to do w/ the whole message the film portrays.

Maybe Michael didn't kill them because he didn't want to leave a trail of bodies between Illinois and California?
Just a guess. Michael has never been a "kill everyone in sight" character like Jason, though.

yeah so they couldn't track him! he isn't Jason at all! but Jason would never get to California because he is to dumb he can't drive!

in H4, he didn't have a problem with leaving a trail of bodies...6 bodies I believe is what Loomis said he had seen between Haddonfield and Ridgemont

I always thought that Myers wanted Loomis to follow him.
And another character I always found interesting was the female reporter in H2. She gave me that Gale Weather vibe. The first time I saw H2 I thought she would play a bigger role than she did.

He didn't have much choice but to kill the ambulance attendees and driver. He killed the people at the gas station/garage because they were in his way.
I see your point, but Michael was tracked down to Haddonfield fairly easily and didn't get Jamie Loyd in H4. Maybe he learned his lesson about leaving a trail of bodies and decided that the lady and little girl in H20 were no threat to him and so leaving them alive was the better course of action.

he didnt have a reason to kill the lady and lil girl becuz they didnt get in his way. loomis said in the 2nd one i believe(dont quote me on that, not 100% sure) that he kills his family and anyone who gets in his way. they werent in the way, so he didnt kill. just like someone said earlier.

how were the gas station and garage workers in his way? just asking...and what about the waitress...what threat did she pose...I guess you're right about him learning his lesson and thus not killing casey and her mom at the rest stop

Michael needed to steal a car or in this case a truck so he knew that if he did without any casulties they would've called the cops and they would've caught him quickly and he couldn't have that now so he made sure that there was nobody left to call the cops and he'd have a hell of a head start before anyone would find out about it.

She does have a slightly bigger role in the Halloween II Novel.
Michael Myers some how gets into the trunk of her car & when she opens up the trunk Michael kills her the same way he killed Alice by using the Elrods Knife & then he drives off in her car

Reverend Sayer in H4 is probably my favorite bit player.
The Man in Black in H5 was a good addition because it added some mystery to the series.
The one that sticks out most for me is the guy Micheal Myers kills to take his clothes. I don't know why, it just does.

Which one? The guy in the original or in H4?
The one in H4 sticks out to me because they actually showed Michael waste him, and in a not very nice way.

so he had a soft spot for billy in h5 when he almost ran him over with the car at the farm? j/k. i'm glad michael doesn't kill kids though, it would be to over the edge for me.
as for my favorite minor character, i would have to say jack sayer. it really annoys me that he didn't ge a bigger part. he was hunting damnation after all.

I don't think Michaels never having murdered a child is due to any sympathy he might have for kids. It's more than likely due to the fact that showing Michael kill a child wouldn't go over very well.

another short scene i really like is the one with norma and laurie (janet and jamie)...that scene just adds to the halloween feel...and it just adds to the things laurie has had to dealt with (other peole have seen her shaken up) and i love that scene...and kind of a send off of Janet from the horror realm
