I invite the people here to put post their list of escential horror movies that all horror fanatics should see. These should be the movies which either set the genre, trancended it, or are the greatest horror movies of all time.

My list:

Halloween (1978)
Texas Chainsaw Mascre (1974)
Night of the Living Dead (1968)
Psycho (1960)
Jaws (1975)
The Exorcist (1973)
Nosferatu (1922)
Alien (1979)
Aliens (1986)

Anyone got any other movies to add.

The Blair Witch Project....not worth the viewing, but it will give you nightmares about why you wasted money to either:

A) payed money to see it in the theatres or

B) payed money to rent it or

C) payed money to buy it

*shudders* nothing's scarier

I'll add to the list Sleepaway Camp

Anyone got any other movies to add. The alien films are sci fi aren't they? And while it can be argued as a horror movie, Jaws is usually found in the action section. I was checking at blockbuster the otherday and sure enough, action section.

I think of Alien as a horror film, not a slasher flick. And I would put Jaws in the drama section. The only action going on in that movie is the singing.

I agree I wouldn't call Jaws an action movie.

As far as the list I will add Friday the 13th (1980) to it.

All Hallowens (Part 3 is an exception)
All Nightmare On Elm Streets
Friday The 13th parts 1 and II
Freddy VS Jason
Alien
Aliens
Jaws
The Exorcist
The Shining
All Scream movies
Texas Chainsaw Masssacare (original)
Night Of The Living Dead (original)
Dawn Of The Dead (Original)
I Know What You Did Last Summer
Child's Play
Bride Of Chucky

Not many of these are the scariest movies of all time, but these are the ones that you should have seen tyo call yourself a "Horror Fan". There are many more that I could name that people should see, but I'm just not in the mood to write a fuckin novel here.

Does blockbuster even have a horror section anymore?

Couple of things. Why is Halloween III an exception? Why would you need to see those films to be called a horror fan? I mean, Bride of Chucky, I know what you did last summer, fucking Scream makes you a horror fan. Thats bullshit. If I'm taking it the way you meant it.

I agree...
H3 is still a horror film...a very original and good one at that.

Yes, it was Myers-less, but should that take it away from being a horror film?

Jaws is located in the horror section whenever I visit Blockbuster.
That's what it's noted as on Television and by everyday movie-goers including myself.

Yes, it is a little strayed, but it can still be classified under the Horror category.
I love that film.
Robert Shaw is one Hell of an actor.
