Out of the two female themes in the series (laurie's theme and jamie's theme aka jamie's nightmare), which do you prefer and why?

Sorry if this is a repeat.

As for me i prefer jamie's because it is more creepy. just my opinion.

Jamie's Nightmare is one of the best songs on the Halloween 4 soundtrack, and I greatly admire its melody and pacing. A very memorable song from the Alan Howarth era. But I will choose Laurie's Theme, which is preferable only by a hair, with its simplistic rhythm and moody creepiness. By the way, my favorite variation of Laurie's Theme is from the Halloween II soundtrack.

It's gotta be Lauries theme. I can't even remember Jaimies theme.

Laurie's, because, like freethy, I don't remember Jamie's.

This is an interesting question...considering Laurie and Jamie's themes are almost exactly the same.

I'm sure we're all familiar with Laurie's theme, but I've been trying to find a site somewhere that has a clip from one of the right spots on the H4 soundtrack to let you guys hear what Jamie's theme is. No luck, though. But while it's dashed through sections of the entire score, the two best examples (although there are even slight variations in just these two) can be heard towards the beginning and the end of the movie. The first is when Jamie's looking at the picture of Laurie in the nightmare sequence. The second is when she and Rachel are riding in the truck after the schoolhouse sequence...this is the melody that plays right before the music suddenly changes when we see Michael climbing into the bed of the truck.

I still really wish I had the sound clips I wanted instead of trying to send you all to the movie to listen for it, but if you pay attention, you'll notice that Jamie's theme is really just a "slowed down" Laurie's theme. The rhythm is "doubled," so to speak. Eighth notes become quarter notes. Or to the musically disinclined, you could also say the rhythm is the same, only played to a beat that's about half that of Laurie's theme. Hence, the "slowed down" effect. But particularly with the segment that plays as they're riding out of town, you can hear it for yourself...the notes are the same, even the key changes are the same. And save for the subtle variations on it throughout the full score, the only difference between the two is the tempo. And for themes that identify mother and daughter characters, I really thought it to be a rather ingenious move on Howarth's part.

This should help Rem.

Most of you should have some sort of shit to unzip .zip folders. For those who don't know Jamies theme right off the bat, I threw it into a .zip for you guys to listen to and decide. Laurie's theme is also included.

Can't unzip?:

I voted for Laurie's theme. It sounds eerie and gives you the chills running up your spine. And everytime it comes on, it makes you feel like Michael is out there somewhere watching her, duh, which is true. Indeed!

Wow, this is a hard question (and really good one!). I guess I'd go with Laurie's theme, only because I've heard it in so many movies. Jamie's theme comes very close to that. BTW, does anyone know if Jamie's theme is played in H5, when Jamie first says "Tina", and Tina hugs her??

I voted Jamie's just 'cause. I really never noticed a difference in the themes, but I never paid attention either. I don't think I've ever watched the 1st and 4th back to back so I just didn't pay attention to the different music.

The music in a movie is rarely a thing I notice, it more goes into the unconcious and sets the mood.

While I like part 4 and all the music in it, the original is what I like better.

Thanks Remicis. I never really noticed that they were in part, the same song.

I really like Jamie's Theme. I think it was very well done and gave it's own unique touch on Jamie's character rather than to just play Laurie's Theme for Jamie in H4. I was quite ingenious of Alan Howarth. Which is also exactly why I would love him to become the exclusive composer for the Halloween films. But I must say that I do prefer Laurie's Theme out of the two. They are extremely close though in which I like more.
