My mom loves country music. I like some shania twan (sp), faith hill, and leann rhymes(sp). Because their basically pop and their good looking. I can handle pop so thats why i like them more. I usually just turn the station to KROQ though. Or throw in a Blink or Green Day album. :)

Country music is an aquirred taste unless you were brought up on it. All through High School i was into Hip Hop then about 2 years after i began exploring all different kinds of music but i really got into country. I enjoy all aspects of it, the music, the lifestyle, etc. I got to see Kenny Rogers live plus a few more so that made me happy. There is alot of great talent in country music, you should never prejudge a music, always keep your mind open. The only letdown that i have had from Country Music is the death of one of the best musicians ever..... John R. Cash R.I.P.

Donnie Darko

i always considered Cash more of storytelling music rather than country, but thats a valid label i guess.

ive found myself liking a few Dwight Yokam songs, which started from watching Terminator 2 (the song "Guitars, Cadillacs")

i can listen to some too when im drinking, but not the slow sad stuff, just the uppity drinking music youll hear in bars thats kind of a country-rock mix.

i like alot of acoustic 50's music which can be interperetated to some people as country.

besides that im not a fan of the genre, i can listen to it if someone else is, but i dont listen to it when im alone, unless its Cash or Dwight.

Rascal Flatts,Billy Dean,Clint Black and Randy Travis to name a few.

Lol i have a buddy who listens to basically nothing But Black Metal, Death Metal and some very Satanic sub Genres of rock but sure enough he loves his Johnny Cash.

Its sorta funny to hear the guy talk about Thrash and such and how he just bought " Johnny Cash's - My Mothers Hymn Book " which is Johnny in his Gospel Days lol

Cash is really in the same category as the metal dudes, hes the man in black!! he dont care to tell a dark story.

i know what youre saying. Cash did cover Hurt by Nine Inch Nails cause he said that it reminded him of a song he'd write in his younger days. thats really cool cause he got a breath of something like from his younger days not long before he passed.
while i like the NIN version better, Cash did one hell of a job.

Rumpy
09-28-2004, 06:06 AM
Trent Reznor Of NIN said in i believe it was a VH1 interview that he cried when he saw the Johnny Cash video version of Hurt because it showed an man of Cash's ages fading away and accepting death and welcoming him on in....

I'm a rocker at heart, but I do like a lot of country. I like Johnny Cash, Brooks and Dunn, Brad Paisley, Montgomery-Gentry, Tim Mcrgraw, and more. I agree it's more of an auired taste, but I grew up in the country so I relate to so much of it.

Because if you love your children the way you should, you are always going to wonder and worry about their safety. "Did I do the right thing here?" "Did I do the wrong thing there?", "It's two hours past curfew. Where is she"? That kind of thing.......
Of course some guys are afraid of losing their freedom and a sizeable portion of their income to child support, but that's not me.
I believe there was a country song out not very long ago that addressed this very thing.

I can't handle that one!!

Lonestar I'm gonna Smile:

I still remember the night we met
You said you loved my smile
But your love for me was like a summer breeze
Oh, it lasted for a while
I could hold on a little tighter I know
But when you love someone you gotta let 'em go so

I'm gonna smile
'Cause I want to make you happy
Laugh, so you can't see me cry
I'm gonna let you go in style
And even if it kills me
I'm gonna smile

Kiss me once for the good times, baby
Kiss me twice for goodbye
You can't help how you don't feel
And it doesn't matter why
Give me a chance to bow out gracefully
'Cause that's how I want you to remember me

I'm gonna smile
'Cause I want to make you happy
Laugh, so you can't see me cry
I'm gonna let you go in style
And even if it kills me
I'm gonna smile

I'm gonna smile
So you can find the courage
Laugh, so you won't see me hurtin'
I'm gonna let you go in style
And even if it kills me
I'm gonna smile

I've always told people I love GOOD music. I throw away the genres and embrace as much as I can. From country music to third world music. As a song writer and a so called musician...lol I look for influences everywhere. It's also no secret that country music sells like hgotcakes either. It's one of the biggest selling genres if I remember correctly. Well, it was back in the 90's anyway.

I'm down with country. My grandpa was one of the original 31 founding members of the Cowboy's Turtle Association, now know as The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). My Pop (a cowboy himself) still has his original pledge pin.

How I became a surfer out of this clan? Just like them, to get girls, of course, I guess it's just a matter of where you're being raised at the time of puberty.

Anyway, I grew up hearing country all through my childhood. Hank, Johnny, Jerry Reed, etc. I even like Kenny Rogers and Randy Travis. Hell, at my wedding we even had this one, by Paul Overstreet, in our song mix...

Ball and Chain

Back when we made our plans to tie the knot
My friends they all laughed at me a lot
They slapped my back and told me how they thought I was insane
They said, “Son, you’re too young to wear that ball and chain”

But love don’t feel like a ball and chain to me
When I’m close to you me heart feels wild and free
If you are my jailer darling throw away the key
Love don’t feel like a ball and chain to me
Love don’t feel like a ball and chain
Don’t feel like a ball and chain
Love don’t feel like a ball and chain to me

Well I still see my single friends from time to time
And they ask me how it feels to walk the line

Well I tell them it feels better then I ever dreamed it would
And I would not trade places with them even if I could

No love don’t feel like a ball and chain to me
When I’m close to you me heart feels wild and free
If you are my jailer darling throw away the key
Love don’t feel like a ball and chain to me

Well if it is a crime for a man to love his wife
Then throw that old book at me give me ninety-nine to life
And I’ll spend every minute, every hour, every day
Holding you close I don’t want to get away

Love don’t feel like a ball and chain to me
When I’m close to you me heart feels wild and free
If you are my jailer darling throw away the key
Love don’t feel like a ball and chain to me
Love don’t feel like a ball and chain
Love don’t feel like a ball and chain
Love don’t feel like a ball and chain
Love don’t feel like a ball and chain

This Cowboy's Hat

Verse 1:
Well I was sitting in a coffee shop
just having a cup to pass the time
swapping rodeo stories with this old cowboy friend of mine.
When some motorcycle riders started snickering in the back
started poking fun at my friend's hat.

Verse 2:
One old boy said "hey Tex, where'd you park your horse"
My friend just pulled his hat down low, but they couldn't be
ignored.
One husky fella said "I think I'll rip that hat right off your
head".
That's when my friend turned around, and this is what he said...

Chorus:
You'll ride a black tornado across a western sky.
Rope an old blue norther and milk it 'till it's dry.
Bulldog the Mississippi, pin its ears down flat
Long before you take this cowboy's hat.

Verse 3:
Now partner, this old hat's better left alone.
You see, it used to be my daddy's, but last year he passed on.
My nephew skinned the rattler that makes up this old hat band.
But back in '69, he died in Vietnam.

Verse 4:
Now the eagle feather was given to me by an Indian friend of mine.
Someone ran him down somewhere around that Arizona line.
And a real special lady give me this hat pin
And I don't know if I'll ever see her again.

Chorus:

Verse 5:
Now if your leather jacket means to you what this hat means to me,
then I guess we understand each other, and we'll just let it be.
But if you still think it's funny,
Man, you got my back up against the wall
And if you touch my hat, you're gonna have to fight us all.

Verse 6:
Well right then I caught a little sadness in that gang leader's
eyes.
He turned back to the others and they all just kind of shuffled on
outside
But when my friend turned back towards me I noticed his old hat brim
Well it was turned up in a big old Texas grin!

I have heard that song, great one! Too bad about his passing...

By the way, my great-grandma passed just last night, she was 104! She had 6 great-great grandkids. She was born in 1900 and would have been 105 in August. Strong lady...
