So, what is your favorite part of the Askewniverse? Feel free to talk about any and all aspects of it, post some of your favorite quotes or whatever.
Personally, the original CLERKS will ALWAYS be my favorite part of the Askewniverse, though I LOVE ALL OF IT!

Mallrats, but I do find it neck to neck with Clerks. In these two movie's and Chasing Amy I find the characters better then the humor which makes the Jersey trilogy better then Dogma and JASBSB.

It's a toss up between Dogma, Jay and Silent Bob Strikes Back, and Clerks the Animated Series. I need to think about it.

my overall favorite is Chasing Amy (yeah im an ol softie)
i cannot watch this movie with other people around, it touches a nerve that just irritates me if someone is talking over it.

I LOVE IT

I voted for Clerks, probably in my top 5 movies of all time. Stoked to hear about the sequel and a little ticked because I've ordered the Clerks X DVD and it turned out it's coming from Canada, and the release date has been delayed till Oct. 5.
Dig all the movies, but Clerks is my choice.

Even though Clerks was the first one I saw, Mallrats is the best.
I love Clerks but I adore Chasing Amy...it's the only romantic comedy I can respect. I found it funny and moving.

yeah, i love Amy, ive got a Kevin Smith autographed poster of that and also an autographed 8x10 of the comic.
Amy is my overall favorite. he really had alot to say with that movie. i usually only throw it in when i know ill have time to watch it all.

Clerks is so raw, so sketchy. Definitive of comedy, just because it's so hilarious.
BTW, if you haven't already seen it, go to altavista.com and type in Flying Car.

Yeah, I like the way randals eyes gets big everytime he says "flying car"
The thing i like so much about Clerks is that you can watch it over and over and still notice alot of new shit. Im sure ive seen the movie well over 300 times and im sure ill still notice something next time i see it (also the other cut of the movie.) The animated series is great too. Thats one great show that i wish wouldve lived longer and evolved.

Well, you know, anything that isn't bland and boring, and doesn't involve EVERYONE who watches T.V., the show will get canned, no matter how large a cult following would come from it.
How many episodes were there total, anyways? (I think on the DVD, it only showed, like, two.)

yeah, Kevin isnt the best guy to have a tv show, mostly cause of the general media.
there were 6 episodes on the Clerks Uncensored dvd. they were really good shows. the reason id have really liked them to went on besides the obvious is that the show didnt have enough time to get to know its own style and evolve, but the episodes they do have are terrific! i bought them thinking it was Clerks the movie and was almost mad at first when i realised it was a cartoon, but then i did some drugs and watched them all with 2 other friends and we all fuckin' still love it.
i wouldnt give up those dvds for anything.

You don't need to go to altavista, "The Flying Car" short is on the Clerks X 10th Anniversary 3 DVD Set(along with all of the MTV Jay And Silent Bob shorts from the late 90's).

Clerks is awesome, Mallrats is great but Chasing Amy and Dogma are the best. Ben Affleck's best work is in these movies - especially Chasing Amy.... He was of course really good in Jersey Girl. All of Kevins movies are great...

Alright thanks man, I'm sold. I'm just curious on how it costs now. I'm guessing about, oh say, $20.00? If that or less, then I'll go buy that fucker as soon as possible.

Amen to that. I have a great feeling about The Passion of the Clerks, especially because Kevin is going back to the raw, edgy style he had with the original. As I'm sure some of you have read, it isn't another cameo-filled flick, like J&SB Strike Back, but another film on the lives of Dante and Randall.

IS there any word of another Jay and Silent Bob movie? I'm probably way off here, but I mean something that is centered around them. I've never seen Clerks or Mallrats or Chasing Amy. I just liked Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back and Dogma(which had more story then just jason and kevin.).

Nope, no more Jay And Bob "focused" movies. "The Passion Of The Clerks" is set to start filming next month, and the Clerks Animated Film(tentaively titled "Clerks: Sellout") is still in the works(and WILL be made).
And damnit, WATCH Clerks, Mallrats and Chasing Amy! You'll understand Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back ALOT more, as well as what most of us are discussing in this thread.

Damn, I wanted to see a "focused" movie on them. I have the Clerks animated series thing, but I've never seen it. I'm interested in seeing Chasing Amy and Mallrats though.
I don't really wanna see another Jay & Silent Bob "focused" film. Upon first initial viewing of Strikes Back, I thought it was uproarious. I thought it was funny a few times after that too, but now I find it some what worn-out and stale (not all of the film, but most parts). I just think there's so much you can do with two stoners...not a lot. So that's why I prefer they play a trivial role in things, maybe 15 minutes or so...something like Chasing Amy was perfect, though.

I'm totally ready for another Clerks movie (It's my personal fave next to Mallrats and Dogma). Clerks has the perfect blend of Kevin Smith's comedy. It's funny stuff that happened in his life, a little dose of J & SB, and witty dialogue. How can you go wrong?

You can't, bro. The movie is infallible.;) I'm glad to hear that the animated Clerks movie has been greenlighted. Anytime I hear of Smith's new work, it ALWAYS promises something to look forward to. Except Vulgar, but we won't head into that...

I am just curious - without watching the other 3 movies weren't you a little lost in Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back? All the characters?

Well those guys in the store, randal and something something(I know this should be like common knowledge) I didnt know but it didnt really matter. I just took them as the store owners and that was it. Who else was there? Jason Lee's character I also didnt need to much backstory on.
JASBSB is all one big film chock-full of an adequate amount of inside jokes. It's a fun film for Kevin Smith fans...I usually look at it from the view that he wanted to take a break and just give back to the fans with it, so he integrated a bunch of shit from all of his films and ran with it.

Well, Jason Lee plays two characters in the movie and I think you would really enjoy the movie so much better if you saw the others - Dante and Randall are only in the beginning but there are so many Mallrats and Chasing Amy jokes in the movie - you will enjoy it so much more. ;)

yeah, i couldnt imagine seeing Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back without seeing the other movies. not that it wouldnt be good but thats what draws me to watch the movies over and over is the inside jokes referring to the earlier movies and other movies.
i was there opening day for Jay and Silent Bob, there was 3 other people in the theatre and two of them were there with me. the other person sat with us and laughed their ass off as well. so anyways. i dont know what itd be like seeing it without the other movies. i was a hardcore fan by the time it was out.
when i first saw Amy i didnt really get into it alot, then again i didnt know about Kevin Smith at the time. its easily my favorite now. id seen and loved Mallrats but i didnt know they were related besides those 2 characters being in both. now its my favorite flick out of the bunch. go figure. funny how shit changes.
the commentaries to all the movies are fuckin halarious though, they give some of the best dvd commentaries of anyone!

For sure, Steve. There are just too many jokes. I'm sure those who hadn't seen Mallrats were stumped by Brodie's infamous line, "Say, would you like a chocolate covered pretzel?:D ". And also the whole significance of the chimp, Suzanne.

I knew it wasn't part of the View Askewniverse, but I didn't know that Kevin didn't have anything to do with it. Thanks for the clarification, Rob.
I know this belongs in I Love the 90's Part Deux...but I'm glad they did a nod toward Mallrats in '95. It reminded me how BAD I need to watch that movie, again.

I am well aware that J&SB Strike Back had many cameos of a whole lot of characters from Smith's previous movies, I have never bothered to take a notice to this...Is Joey Lauren Adams in J&SB Strike Back? This question has been bugging the shit out of me all day.

I was surpirsed that she was since her and Kevin broke up and he got married - and his wife was in the movie. Wondered if that caused any weird feelings on the set... but since she was in such a small cameo probably not.

I think one of the best scenes in Dogma is when Chris Rock talks about being the 13th Apostle and that white guys wrote the bible and stuff. Chris is hysterical in J&SBSB and asks if Jamie Kennedy put boogers in his coffee - and the cracker lines.

Kevin Smith said that the Passion of the Clerks script is the funniest thing he has ever written. It's in an interview at this link:

It also says a little about the Clerks cartoon movie that they are also making.
