If you can't answer a question, why post?

I think the rarity of the discs depends on a few things. Are you going to sell them? If so, I think you have to run a few checks on e-bay to see the going prices there. If you're not selling, you may still want to check there or places like it. I think they are rare though considering it took me a while to find them all sealed. So, sounds like you got a deal if you only paid $10 a piece. I think I paid $12 (including shipping) per.

If you aren't gonna add something of value to someones question try not to post in a thread like this one. It looks like your post padding. Which I don't think you are intentionally. I realize your trying to fit in and make friends here. You don't have to try SO hard. Give people time to get to know you k? :)

It sounds to me like you got a pretty standard price.

I saw a vendor at a horror convention who was selling a lot of LD's (I recall only the original Halloween available, so perhaps these sequels might be more rare?) for $10 each.

Unfortunately I don't think they go for much on ebay, but you never know if you come across a collector who wants one bad enough...

I found that H3 was by far the toughest to find. It took me a few weeks. heh

Hey myers2004! It sounds to me like you got a great deal (depending upon their condition). For me, laserdiscs are getting more and more scarce for just about any film and the fact that these are Halloween movies makes them even more valuable since there are so many of us fans out there who love collectibles such as these.

Let's just say...if it were me, I would have paid up to $25 for each so you getting them for $10 is real good in my eyes.

Congrats!

Also, if you have a digital camera, would you mind posting pics? Thanks

It's amazing how you found 1-5 sealed, considering how old and hard to find they have been in these past few years...and $12 per laserdisc??! Damn you and your luck. hehe, and you found them on ebay, right?

Myers2004, consider yourself lucky. You've picked up two fine items. Here's what I know about the laserdiscs. First of all, $10 a pop is cheap, especially for II and 5. They hardly ever make an appearance on Ebay. In fact, I've only seen them listed once or twice. H3 and the H1 Criterion often make appearances, but forget about easily finding H3 sealed :( I've seen one recently, but decided to pass. H4 and the original H1 both appear in moderation. You may be lucky to find them sealed, and if so, expect to pay a lot of money.

This is a breakdown of ranges of final prices to expect according to what I've learned from my experiences, so it is pretty accurate and reliable. It's without considering Buy It Now. Final prices vary because of the number of Ebay bidders on the lookout at the time of the auction, certain times of year, etc, which leads to why there are some big gaps in these numbers. I would not recommend going over the maximum price for any of these.

H1 - 1988 Laserdisc - $15-27 Sealed - $25- ~40
H1 - 1994 Re-issue - $5-15 Sealed - $10-25
H2 - $18-25 Sealed - $25-35
H3 - $15-22 Sealed - $20-30
H4 - $15-22 Sealed - $20- 25-30 area
H5 - $15-25 Sealed - $22-35
H6 - $5-15 Sealed $10-17
H20 - $5-15 Sealed $10-20

Yeah, those figures seem about right.

Hopefully this helped. PM me for questions. Again, good job, myers2004.

I was thinking about bidding on these a couple of times on e-bay, but thought...why? I'll never be able to watch them. Then again I do have a few Halloween's on Beta and my Beta player got lost in the move and if found..I don't know if it still works. So eh.....I guess the are pretty cool. Maybe if I ever see them cheap enough...yes I'm cheap...I'd pick them up. Sounds like a good price.

You're welcome! Yep, depending on certain circumstances, you might find a laserdisc auction in which they go absolutely NUTS. Most of the time the auctions exceed my budget. Like you said earlier, you can always try at conventions. I hope we across good stuff like this at Monster Mania and Chiller! :)

Hey myers2004...if you find any Dawn of the Dead (1978) laserdiscs let me know. I keep an eye out for them on Ebay but usually the prices either go up too high or the request for shipping cost is absurd. Are all the laserdiscs in that store $10?
Thanks :D

dumb question, but what is a laserdisk? is it just another name for DVD? thanks.

A laserdisc is an early version of a DVD. Out on shelves in the late seventies or early eighties, laserdiscs usually had enough space for only the full-length motion picture. They're the size of records (LPs). Here's a picture of one:

Here are some auctions for some Halloween laser discs:

Wow, I had no idea that they had been out that long. I don't think I even knew of them until the early 90's when I saw a collection of them at this house I babysat at. Man, do I feel out of the loop. I guess I was too busy being attached to those classy vhs cassettes. :D

Laserdiscs were just so bulky to handle. I'm sure they'd have taken off if they were a bit smaller.

I was digging through my old LD collection, and y'all will NEVER believe what I found. The original release editions of H1-H3! I completely forgot I had H2 and H3! :D

H1 is dated 1985 from Media

H2 is dated 1983 from MCA

H3 is also dated 1983 from MCA

And I've also got the 1994 Criterion release of Halloween.

Kick ass! No? ;)

Cool thanks myers2004! ;)

I have seen a few at some great prices on Ebay but the shipping that some of the sellers charge are so costly. I wish I could find a deal on a bunch at some store but I am not so lucky in that dept. It's funny because I live about 20 min away from San Francisco (where there is a ton of stuff like used laserdiscs for great deals) but I think I venture off to Los Angeles a lot more than SF. Then again, LA has Disneyland and SF just has...well...Alcatraz :D

I too will keep an eye out for anything super if I run into it though. I don't even know why I want to collect the laserdiscs because I don't even have a player. I must admit that they look pretty nifty though.

i check just about everywhere. salvation army to free store and lawn sales have actually been my best places. any other movies you really are looking for? i collect most all and anything horror. i might have even found a guy who has a ton of beta movies and going to try and see what he has. last i heard he was looking to get rid of his whole collection. more info to come soon.
