Halloween: ****- Best horror movie of all-time
Halloween II: *** 1/2- A continuation of the night. What's not to like?
Halloween III: **1/2- Get over the fact that it has nothing to do with Myers and it's a pretty flick
Halloween 4: ***- For the most part, I really enjoyed this one. Michael was back and though his mask looked dumb, it was good to see another Halloween with him in it.
Halloween 5: * 1/2- Too many dumb things like the psychic connection, driving a car through the woods and
still not catching the kids....It did have a pretty good ending though.
Halloween 6: ** 1/2.....I'm hoping the Producer's Cut will make me like this a little more. It was another disappointment in a way. I remember seeing a trailer for it with some of my friends and we were blown away. Then we rented it when it came out and let's say we were not too fond of it. It has gotten better since that initial viewing.
Halloween H20: *** 1/2- I hated it at first. After multiple viewings though, I have slowly grown to like the film. At some points, it felt like the original.
Halloween 8: *- Horrendous. I was very disappointed because after the first 10-15 minutes, I thought I was in for a kickass Halloween film. It quickly turned into a disaster.

Aside from H20, that's pretty much what I would rate for each movie. Tell me, do you like the P-cut better than the T-cut?

Hell yeah, I love the P- Cut more then the T-cut. The movie make's more sense and has more Donald Pleasence for starters.

EDIT: Just because I gave H3 as many stars as H2 and 4, doesn't mean they're equally as good. H2 and 4's three stars are a little stronger than H3. 2 and 4 are better than 3 imo. And H20 is professionally a better movie than 5 and 6, but in terms of favorites I like 5 and 6 better.

Yeah, I probably did. I kind of go back and forth with that. The truth is that as far as I am concerned H2,3, and 4 are just about equal. Sometimes I think H2 is a little better, other times I give the edge to 3 or 4.

Halloween1, 2,& 7 -Worth buying on DVD
Halloween 3,4,5,6 & 8 depends if your fan of these.

I first time I saw Halloween was on tv in 1980, I was seven. Same for H2 & H3 at a later date. I brought Halloween 4 & 5 on video. I saw H6,H7,H8 in movies.

I was just thinking. Maybe one of the reasons people dislike HR so much is it doesn't even have an ending like H5 did to make people anxious to see the next one. H5 made us anticipate H6. I thought H6 sort of got the franchise back on the right track except for the HORRIBLE ending. Anyway.....

I don't mean to be disrespectful, but please keep those comments to yourself. There are a lot of H3 fans on this board. It may be OK to give the movie a low rating, but please do not say anything that harsh. :)

I just voted my gut opinion. Halloween III *is* great in my opinion, but NOTHING beats the original. ;)

Halloween III tied with H4 because of their impact in the series as a whole. Without H3 there would be NO H4 or the rest of the series for that matter as we know it.

I think it's a lot of missed potential. I think the story's interesting and I *love* Cochran, but the execution is fairly sloppy. And I had to take a half star off for that goddamn song.

After seeing several insanely high ratings for Halloween 5 (several 10/10's), I'm wondering if there's some version of this film that the entire world knows about except me. It's essentially saying that Halloween 5 is on the same level as the original lol.

I consider H5 to be among the "lesser" of the Halloween sequels, although it fits nicely with H4. Not so much in terms of quality, but actual content. You could even call it H4's little sister is a way, hehe. But no, I don't have a problem with the movie at all, although it is flawed.

just for the heck of it i thought i would post the ratings for
the halloween movies from rottentomatoes.com, to get a fresh tomato/rating
the movie has to score at least 60%

the number of times a movie was reviewed is in parenthesis.

halloween:
critics (23)=100%
registered users (53)=98%
only 98%? shameful

halloween 2:
critics (19)=11%
users (14)=92%
not a big surprise there

halloween 3:
critics (7)=14%
users (6)=0%
this is actually the second highest rated sequel by critics, but the
users can't seem to get over that michael isn't in it. too bad for them.

halloween 4
critics (12)=8%
users (7)=42%
i thought the users rating would be a little big higher on this one.

halloween 5:
critics (15)=7%
users (6)=16%
seems about right

halloween 6:
critics (22)=5%
users (5)=40%
these are probably based on the t-cut, but i doubt the critics' rating
would be much different.

halloween 7:
critics (44)=52%
users (10)=80%
ok, i'll admit it, this is partly the reason i thought to post this;
the critics and fans both LOVE H20, heh heh. if you can call 52% love.

halloween 8:
critics (57)=11%
users (11)=27%
meh! what do the critics and users know? both scores are way too high.

i know this isn't very scientific at all, mainly because there aren't many
reviews on most of the sequels. still, rottentomatoes is a website i like to
check out to get peoples opinions on movies, not that i always agree with them.

Why do you rate these films based on Michael's appearance?

He is a serial killer wearing a ghostly mask who was disfigured in a fire back in 1978. You expect to find him attractive?

1. ****. Superb, but I like the THX master better than the original master, more of a fall feel, and better lighting, as they originally wanted it.
1 THX **** Simply the best. The lighting and fall colors add so much for me.
1 Extended/T.V. **** Doesn't add much either way, better for full continuity, but the theatrical cut has a better flow.
2. *** Good solid effort, just added too much to the series, though the sequels helped it out in my eyes, and further explaination in a subsequent sequel could help it out further.
2 T.V. *** Added scenes are alright, liek part 1, good for the full series continuity, but nothing special.
2 My Ultimate Cut (one I spliced together, keeps both endings and melds them nicely, some other fleshed out continuity bumps in the usual Ultimate Cut). ***
3. *** Underrated because there's no Michael, but good atmosphere, ending, and story.
4. **** Second to the original. Not much really marred it, the sex scene just seemed tacked on for the appeasement of the usual slasher crowd though.
5. ** 1/4 The cheesyness, and the sappy tears, and to a little bit lesser extent the Thorn and Man in Black stuff ruined the otherwise good film. Further fleshing out continuity in the series could make it more acceptable (say, like having the tear be an illusion Michael put in Jamie's mind via their psychic connection).
5 Original Opening **. The original opening detracted from it, adding more credence to the Thorn mythology and such. Plus the old hermit and Snookie kick the shit out of the Thorn cult punk.
5 Cheeseless Cut (A cut I made taking out the clown music, and cheesy rock guitar and such, I just wish I could have synched Tina's "Nothing." speech better, but then no one could unless they had the original speech. Nothing makes up for Michael's tears though). ** 2/3.
6. *** 1/4 Great atmosphere and Michael, but I didn't like the whole Thorn storyline, even if it was somewhat dissmissed to be acceptable to me in the end. The head exploding and a few other things mar it. Maybe a sequel that better fleshes out the series continuity could make it better in hindsight, like H2 is and could be even more with further fleshing out itself.
6 T.V. *** 1/2. T-Cut with added P-Cut scenes that fit seamlessly into the T-Cut. It adds much to the film.
6 P.C. ** Didn't care for the Thorn storyline as presented here, and what it did to Michael, the added music and some added scenes were good, but they cannot make up for the storyline. If this were a non-MM Halloween film it would have been much better (same with the original script), but as a MM Halloween film, it's just above poor in my eyes. Maybe, like the T-Cut a more thorough explaination of the events in all cuts could redeem it more (especially no MM has the father of the baby and no rape, bothfully explained away with no buts about it, as they aren't 100% clear now).
6 D.C.? Have seen one scene, seen pics of and read about other scenes, but haven't seen the whole film.
6 Ultimate Cut (well it's basically an extended T-Cut I made, taking the T-Cut and some added P-Cut+T.V. cut scenes and music that fit in seamlessly, those scenes and the music adding to the atmosphere makes up somewhat for the story presented in all cuts, maybe I could add D-Cut scenes if they ever turn up in good condition). ****
7. ** 1/2 Like the H6 P-Cut it would make a good non- MM Halloween film, but as it is it's humanzation of MM, and lack of acknowledgement of 4-6 ruined it for me. It lacked the Halloween atmosphere too (besides the opening). 1/2 a star was added due to revelations in H8, but it'd be redeemed much better in a more thorough explaination in another sequel.
7 T.V.. ** 1/2 Just some added scenes and dialogue, nothing too extraordinary.
7 Workprint. ** 1/2 Some changed music and dialogue, an added scene, nothing too special, the differing music in parts detracts (as it's more Marco Beltrami music), but the added stuff is good enough to even it out.
8. ** More halloween atmosphere than the majority of 7, but again, it altered the series continuity/story and Michael too much and it didn't feel like Halloween film through most of it, like 7/H:20. I just wish it were relegated to Laurie's nightmare based on real people in the next sequel. Have some of the actors from it in the sequel and make it enough of a plot point so it won't be a total waste.
8 Homecoming. ** Just some changed or added scenes, nothing too special to really change the rating. I didn't care for kid Michael expressing emotion in the opening though.

4 stars for H20 and Resurrection?!?! I might just let H20 slide because I know there are quite a few people who think it's one of the best of the series (I used to think that, but not anymore).

However, with Resurrection, I...I just can't let that pass. A 4?!?!?!

Okay, here's something we can do to remedy this situation. Take off three stars from Resurrection and I think we can call it a day.

Eh, while I'm at it, my gradings for the series:

Halloween-A+
Halloween II-A
Halloween III-A+
Halloween 4-B+
Halloween 5-C/C+/B- (this really depends on how my day is going and what kind of mood I am in)
Halloween 6 Theatrical Cut-B

So why exactly can't I express my dislike for her choices? I mean, it is my opinion, correct? And I think I'm entitled to it, correct?

Also, why is it that you came into this thread just to post that? If she was mad about what I said, she would have probably said something about it. She doesn't need you to defend her, so relax.

It is sir, the way that you make fun of her opinion that bothered me......she liked 8...end of story........you don't have to make her opinion sound stupid, which is how it came off.

I am very relaxed son, ff666, is a new member and her opinion should be respected and besides it doesn't make a person feel very welcome when people do that shit.

Halloween **** Very simple, eerie, and terrifying.

Halloween II ***1/2 A very good sequel, and incredible continuation.

Halloween III (I havent seen this for 7 years, so I can't rate it)

Halloween 4 **** The best sequel, and most true to the original.

Halloween 5 *** I like this one. It had a lot of good scenes.

Halloween 6 *** Had a good atmosphere, but was too confusing.

Halloween H20 * 1/2 It lost the HalloweeN feel, and was incredibly boring, but the story was alright in some parts.

Halloween Resurrection *1/2 Had a bad script, but it had a good theme and a very good atmosphere.

Here is my rating for all 8 Halloween films

Halloween: ****1/2 The first and the best of the Halloween series. Everything that needed to be said about the film's greatness has already been stated. I had to give it an extra half star. One of the all time greats. The night he came home.

Halloween II: *** Good continuation and a very satisfying sequel. It is more of the "night he came home". The ending was a bit rushed and seemed to have been a bit cut and dry. Could of been more better. But still a very worthy sequel to the great original.

Halloween III: * Terrible movie. I really tried to like this film the first time I saw it, even though it didn't have Michael Myers in it.
I wanted to be fair to it and look at it as the stand alone film it was. But the new plotline and new story sucked. Only good thing about it was most of John Carpenter's crew was on board. Good lighting and cinematography. Dan O' Herlihy was a convincing horror villain.

Halloween 4:***1/2 Now we're talking. Very good and well done movie. It has a great Halloween atmosphere that is hard to describe, but you know it is there. Very dark movie. Dark as in it was shot mostly in the dark. Cinematography could of been better, but I liked it for what it was. Good solid story, some good scares and suspense scenes. Great and likeable characters, especially the two young heroines, return of Dr. Loomis(should of been dead, but it's Donald Pleasance...you cannot go wrong with Donald in a Halloween sequel), not too much gore and going for more suspense, a decent Michael Myers who can at least play the part well, and a solid ending with a fantastic twist. It honors the original fully while developing a good story. A bit cliched and underdevloped in a few areas, but another worthy sequel. Sets itself up for a rather dismal sequel though. Not as good as the original for sure, but for my money, the best sequel in the whole series. A bit of an improvement over 2. A major, major one over shitty part 3.

Halloween 5: *1/2 Well...it had some moments for sure. It really did have some potential had it been tweaked some more, and weeded out the excess baggage that weighed this disappointing entry into the series down. It had a very strange, albeit dark, atmosphere throughout the film. I kinda liked it though. Different, but unique look and feel if anything. But overall I could not stand the direction of the film. That French-Swiss asshole who directed it really had no business doing a film like this. He along with his other writers are terrible and really can't write a decent story that can interest the viewer. They try to hide their lack of talent with a flashy, more complex directing style, vague and cryptic plotlines, mysterious characters, and manage to hold some interest only to not deliver whatsoever in the end. A very strange way to end a movie. A bit interesting though. Ben Meeker returns from 4, but like Brackett in part 2, Meeker is not given much to do in this mess of a movie. Rachel dies...so that put a coffin to a series that was off to a great comeback in the well done H4.
Dominique Othenin-Girard is a complete hack that should really not direct any more movies anymore. IMO, he pretty much ruined the series. Him and other assholes involved in this and esp. the next entry.

Halloween 6(theatrical cut) **
Halloween 6(producer's cut) *** Now this film had even more potential going and was a bit of an improvement than the weak part 5. It was somewhat decent in the theatrical cut, but a big ass mess. The plot was way out there and was overcomplicated. Alot of plot elements and scenes were just so convoluted that it was just totally unnecessary. Some of the directing shots and cuts in the film were completely unnecessary as well. It angered alot of people who watched the film the first time. It had some bad acting from a few people. But at least they were better than the assholes in 5. I felt really no connection to the characters, esp Jamie Lloyd. It just didn't seem right at all and I could not get past the fact that the girl who played her in 6 was Jamie...at all. But her death scene was cool though.
The film though was just an overdose of gore, bad acting from a few people, alot of twists and turns, and an increasingly complicated plot that just went nowhere in the end. I still for the life of me cannot figure out the last 20 minutes of that film. I was really disappointed, but I managed to watch the film several times over the course of Halloween 2005 and until a month ago or so. Not too bad. I stayed awake and watched the whole thing. Thorn and H6 definitely had potential for more exciting and awesome Halloween movies had it been done right. Well now we will never know and we can only see glimpses and shadows of what could of been in the p-cut version of it. The next two just didn't do it for me.

Halloween H20: *

I really understand that this movie seems to be loved by many long time fans of the series. It has the return of our beloved heroine: Laurie Strode. And it had a pretty crisp and clean look that does not distract some. Granted, it had very good cinematography and should be applauded for the effort in the technical area. I didn't like that whole crisp, clean, polished, and manufactured look that catered and pandered to the whole teenage mallrat audience it obviously aimed for. The whole Scream/I Know What You Did horror craze was still in full swing and was at it's peak in 1998. Don't get me wrong, I like Scream and it's two sequels. I kinda like IKWYDLS(well the first one) but other than that, I can't stand most of the others and especially the Williamson penned films designed to please teenybopper horror fans looking to squeal like bitches in a packed theater. I noticed it in the trailers for H20 before it's release. I found it odd since I really liked that dark and sinister look of H6's trailer that got me somewhat excited. It was darkly foreboding and that to me is in the tradition of a REAL Halloween movie. But Halloween 7 might take a few more looks and previews before I see it. I never saw it in theaters and I am so glad I didn't. When I finally came down to see it in early 2001 on HBO, well I was just...well I felt nothing. Emptiness and indifference is what I felt. I kinda liked the final act of the film. It was exciting and had me in suspense. I loved Laurie chopping Michael's head off and seemingly finding a resolution to this confusing and disjointed series. But I could not stand the overall look and plotline of the film. Yeah a big fan of Halloween like myself should like that the plot of the film resembled the one from the original. But it just copied the original. I laugh at Michael driving throughout the whole film like it supposed to be 1978 again. Well it was 1998 and I was not scared or gripping myhands in suspense. It had a few moments though. JLC as Laurie was good. Not as good as in 1 and 2, but that is ok. She dropped that Laurie Strode good girl babysitter act long, long ago and turned her back on it as she no longer needed it anymore. Well in 1998 I am sure she got tired of those damn commericals she was doing and the few mediocre films she would pop in and out of for the few years before '98. So I guess she felt compelled to go back to her "roots" and do a Halloween movie again. To thank all the fans who have supported her and have made her career possible and all of that trite bullshit. It's a given though, to be condescending and patronizing to fans who adore her and her character in the first two movies that we all love. But hey money was to be had right? Well that's how I feel anyways and no disrespect to the fans who put her on the highest pedestal for Halloween and it's subsequent sequels, but just my opinion.
Oddly I liked Ronny, the dumbass security guard, more than the rest of the dull supporting cast. I also liked the incredibly hot Jody Lynn 'O Keefe. I found John Tate to be so fucking annoying. Boring ass Michelle Williams let's her mousy, cute face and squealy ass voice make all the impact, like she normally does in her films and Dawson's Creek. Will, the counselor was alright. But again...hardly any emotional investment in him or most of the cast. It's not the acting is bad. It is competent. It is just that he film is just hard to sit through most of the time as the classic Halloween look and atmosphere is all gone and now I can only wish I had paid attention to H6 when I saw it the year before H20 came out.

Halloween Resurrection: *

Ok where the hell is the voice of reason in these films? The person that speaks for the side of good against pure evil Michael Myers? Like a Dr. Loomis?

First we don't get it in the mediocre H20, but then we sorta do in H8 in Busta Rhymes? Freddie Harris? WTF??? That asshole basically tore into the media for exploiting and taking advantage of the other survivor, Miss What's her fucking face, when that's what he set out to do from day one with that shitty Dangertainment plot. Unbelievable. A pair of chimps for survivors? To me, Sara Moyer and Freddie Harris were just that. And Tyra Banks? She looks good, but fuck, she cannot act for shit. But there you go. More famous and well known faces, pretty faces, and rappers to appeal to stupid fuck teenagers who cannot possibly fathom or understand real horror. Fans who probably dont remember the original Halloween and H2 to begin with.
And Busta Rhymes kicking Michael's ass made me vomit non-stop for three days. Those scenes of Busta always getting the upper hand on pure evil should never have been shot. If so, should of been taken out in post-production. Man if only Busta was in H6. But then H6 had feeling and had the spirit of Halloween all over it. Busta would not fit in that superior realm whatsoever. I swear that Busta was put in H8 to make his sorry hack ass look good.
That's it....the final coffin to Halloween I guess. Unless H9 can somehow revive it from the mess it has become.

Halloween- ****: Simple, terrifying story. John Carpenter and Debra Hill don't rely on pop out scares and gore to make this film scary. They did it with the lighting, suspense, and music. All of the characters were sympathetic. You cared for some when they died. The thing I admire is that it was made on a very tight budget, but it is one of the best movies made in the last 30 years. It was movie made out of love which is rare.

Halloween II- *** 1/2: Atmospheric, but bloodier and less scary sequel is the one of the only "Halloween" sequels that had that Halloween feeling. The music made part of that atmosphere. Flaws are that Laurie wasn't active and wasn't strong willed like she was in the original. Plus this movie was made just for money.

Halloween III- *1/2: I'm not giving this movie the lowest rating because it was Myersless. I'm giving it the lowest rating because it's a horrible movie. Druids and androids? Plus, how the hell did those androids get that piece of Stonehenge halfway across the world. I know I should use my imagination and try to figure it out, but then my imagination will only think of something dumb. The only good thing about this movie that made it get its one and half stars is its atmosphere and music. Again, a movie made for money.

Halloween 4- ****: Now, this movie wasn't really made for money. The makers were taking a risk of releasing this movie because it was trying to revive a dead series that seemingly ended with the third installment. Now this movie has: great acting, great atmosphere, great cast (lovable Ellie Cornell), great music, and great kills. It's killings were brutal, but not gorey or gratuitous. Also, an ending I personally didn't see coming.

Halloween 5- * 1/2: This one was for the money. Even some of the makers thought the movie was crap. It is cashing in on the success of the fourth installment with a director who has never seen any of the previous films in the franchise. It seems like a horror/comedy at times with its clown cop music and that corny death scene involving a cop and a window. The music I thought was terrible. The only good thing about this movie was Donald Pleasence.

Halloween 6 T-Cut- **: This movie is a good movie covered in shit. After the much superior P-Cut was finished, director Joe Chapelle crapped on it with his arrogance by putting in cheap and violent "Friday the 13th" killings and a terrible ending that seems to confuse viewers and cutting out over half of Pleasence's death scenes. The druids were trying to breed a super killer by using Michael's DNA? I gave it two stars because a majority of the film is the P-Cut.

Halloween 6 P-Cut- ***: Much superior alternate edit of the sixth installment connects Michael with an anciet Celtic ritual and it makes sense. This film is very dark and creepy. The music is very atmospheric and is the best score since the "Halloween 4." The ending is a little on the supernatural side, but for some reason it works. The movie is a little slow and has no action.

Halloween: H20- *** 1/2: Now, this movie is bashed a lot by hardcore fans for being a little to on the "Scream" side. But I personally love it. Jamie Lee Curtis is back to her strong willed side that made her a heroine in the original. This film was the first "Halloween" movie since "Halloween 1, 2, and 4" to scare me. It was very suspensful and I actually love the setting. A big mansion that is harboring a killer. The main theme is a great version of Carpenter's theme. Plus, adding Janet Leigh and her car from "Psycho" was a perfect touch.

Halloween: Resurrection- **: Now, one and a half of these stars goes to Jamie Lee Curtis and Michael Myers. The other half star goes to the film's version of the "Halloween" theme. The rest of the film is a sloppy piece of crap. I used to think "Why would the director (Rick Rosenthal) of this film who did the great 'Halloween II' do such a bad job on this one?" Well, in "Halloween II" Carpenter went in and re-did a lot of that movie after seeing Rosenthal's final cut, known as the TV cut, which was a terrible movie in my opinion. Jamie Lee Curtis is good and strong willed like always until the film makes her stupid by wanting to check if it really is Michael. The film tries to have comic relief with Busta Rhymes' character, but it's just embarassing. The film wasn't scary. It tried to be too hip while being an '80s type slasher film. Not a good mix. And the characters by far are the worst characters of the series.

Halloween: ***** (My fav movie EVER)

Halloween II: **** 1/2 (Woulda given it five stars if Laurie hadn't have become an expert fucking marxman at the end).

Halloween III: ****1/2 (I don't care about all your zero star ratings. I'll send Tom Atkins over to your house to punch a bigass hole in your chest. Great tongue in cheek creepfest.)

Halloween 4: **** (Kinda like a really top notch Friday The 13th sequel. Good pacing, gore, performances and scares. But the only thing super memorable is the ending.)

Halloween 5: *1/2 (BOOORIIIING. Also makes the fatal mistake of not including a single likeable character.)

Halloween 6: ***1/2 (Like H4, but without the cool ending)

Halloween H20: ****1/2 (Awesome! There's still life in the franchise (and in Steve Miner). The next one's gonna be awesome right?).

Halloween Resurrection: **1/2 (Oh well, at least it's better than part 5. Stupid Busta Rhymes.)

I've always felt that many of them are too close in quality to give a strict ordering or star ranking, so I rank mine in 3 tiers. The first tier being the best, then the mid
