No forum for it, but it was a great movie. And I gotta thank Tes One for showing it to me, I'm so glad that I saw it, one of the best movies in my collection.

Discuss.

I thought it was about as interesting as a sandwich full of dog dick.

But that's just me...

I really liked this movie. My friend let me borrow it, and my jaw dropped several times. It was a good story IMO, and the acting was very good. There was one moment I didn't like at all though, but I don't want to ruin it for people who haven't seen the movie. I thought it was overall, a good movie.

I loved this movie...it gets better with repeated viewings. If anyone tells me they want to see it, I always tell them to watch it at least twice before deciding they dont like it.

I watched this after seeing people rave about it on another board and I just couldn't get into it.I watched it a second time and got the same result.

The first time it was good. The second time it was great. Who knows the third time?? Great movie though, now one of my favorite horror movies.

Not a classic in my eyes but still a nice eery movie that had me tense at points.

I really liked it - I was left feeling a bit disturbed after my first viewing. I found Session 9 to be unique, complex and quite creepy.

I found it pretty effective how Gordon's story is told in bits and pieces, a little more each time, but not fully explained until the end.

The voices of Mary Hobbes' personalities were incredible. Princess sent chills down my spine the most. "Have you seen my dolly Mr. Doctor? Mary got a china doll for Christmas..."

So many people comment on Simon's voice the most but it never did anything for me.

maybe i am wrong. but wasn't simon a demon? "i live in the weak and wounded" to me that is where demons love to go right?
maybe i am nuts but that's what i thought. we all have a little weirdness inside us and i think the weak people are those who let the weird or evil inside them, out. ok, it's late i'm tired. what do you think?

the movie was really good up until the end. i don't want to give anything away so if ya haven't seen this movie do not read any further....

the part about the baby really upset me. damn cuz i really liked the movie. anything to do with kids especially babies is a no no for me. creepy as hell though. i don't feel any sympathy for gordon at all. he should have gotten help.

Moron, which bit didn't you like?

It could be a demon, or it could just be his own madness. That's what's interesting about this film, it's not explained one way or the other. A bit like Michael in Halloween. I like that it works as a ghost story or a real madness story, depending on which way you want to see it.

i know. i was just asking your opinion as to what you thought it was. i think demon.

Since we now have the spolier option:
I really disliked that Gordon killed his baby. That's a line that shouldn't be crossed in my book. That's in very bad taste to me.

If you want a movie to be truly disturbing, it has to cross some kind of lines. With all the shit I've gone through in my life, NOTHING put on film can truly terrify me. There are some truly sick people out there that do truly sick things. What we found out at the end of Session 9 didn't phase me at all. It was just an additional story twist that made the film that much more like a truly scary REAL story.

While I'm at it, I just feel the need to say that the nightly news has some gruesome stories that would make any Horror movie seem like an episode of Sesame Street. I'm waiting for a horror movie to be released that actually does cross the limits of good taste and decensy. That's the only way anything could possibly be scary in this day and age. Murdering of children, rape, abuse of the elderly, random acts of violence with no motive,......stuff you always hear about on the news, read in the papers, but that Hollywood is still too chicken-shit to put on film.

Bucky-lives

yes the nightly news is scarier than any movie, but it always will be. because unfortunatly man is far more evil and capable of far worse things than any mind can imagine on film. i think session 9 went to far. HOWEVER.. they didn't show the baby being killed so
i think they crossed the line but came back in time for it to be ok and not sicko shit. child murder and rape is scary. sickening. and in my mind the ultimate evil. but we do not have to see this to be scared. i for one would never watch any movie that actually showed a scene where a child was being murdered or raped. insinuating horrible things like that, without showing them is more horrible anyways. but the day we start making films that actually show the scenes? that's the day old Bucky here disowns the human race. but thankfully it will never come to that. hopefully. i mean what would be next? let all the pedofiles out of prison? sorry for my strong views . and i don't mean to offend anyone. but i think we need certain lines left uncrossed.

To those who didn't like Session 9, what specifically didn't you like about it? Because aside from a couple of minor flaws here and there, I thought it was a classic. As do most people I know who've seen it.

i agree it was very good. i was just bothered by what most people are bothered by... the part about the baby. but like i said atleast they didn't show it. insinuating it was enough.

This film is brilliant! it proves that you can make a brilliant thriller/horror film without loads of bloodshed!

A movie needs to be disturbing to be great these days. It has to affect you and have an impact on you for it to be good. Thats what this movie did. In one way or another.

Session 9 is a stellar film, absolutely disturbing and horrifying.

Has anyone seen the recent film from the same guy who did this, I believe it was called "The Machinist" or something along the lines of this...?

do you mean the one with Christian Bale in it?
I didn't see it but I know Bale had lot of problems to gain weight again in order to play Bruce Wayne/Batman in Batman Begins

Yes, exactly it did star Bale. So, anyone seen it? I'm assuming it's probably another good genre film from Anderson.

Great character development to a suspenseful, trippy end.

im glad ya liked it.

i think its got some great character development too, thats what makes the ending so cool. there for awhile its kind of like youre just hanging out with the actors and its fun. the part where theyre just sitting around and talking about the mental patients is a good example. its building backbone instead of just pushing the plot at you at the same time.

its kinda like a hang out movie for a minute. thats what gets you really liking the characters. personally i like the concept of getting you to like characters to an extent instead of pushing plot 100% of the time.

the ending is great as well, it gives you enough time to find the mindframe and really experience whats going on rather than just seeing it from an outsiders perspective.

I think the character development is pushed even further because you get to know them in a friggin' spooky (probably the freakiest of any I've seen on film) insane asylum.

I agree with you. The setting helped alot. One of the best twists I have seen in a movie at the end. And listening to the old sessions of 1-9 was a good touch too.

I first saw it a few years ago, and it immediately became one of my favirite horror movies of all time.
Creepy and spooky as hell, and it makes the daylight as spooky as the night, which few films have truly done.
It was filmed using high definition digital cameras.
It was filmed at an actual haunted asylum in Mass.. The dvd has a nice documentary on it.
I can't reccomend it enough.
