Which Halloween movie had the best ending? I think they are all very different, and some are better than others. But, Halloween 3 and Halloween 4 have the best IMO.

The original Halloween has the best ending. Michael committs a slew of intense and horrific murders, his final victim in saved at the nick of time, and then the biggest surprise of all occurs when it turns out that he has gotten up and walked away. The ending is not only brilliant but leaves a chilling message. Evil cannot be destroyed. It keeps on continuing no matter what you do to try to stop it and it could be anywhere.

H2, when Loomis tells Michael "It's time Michael!" and it blows up, great!
Well it is pretty simple for me......Halloween is my fav. I think it's great not know were Michael has gone. H20 was pretty cool aswell.

I was having a Halloween-a-thon yeasterday (I got the UK box-set for Christmas!), so I watched Halloween 3, all the way to H20. Now, I saw it on BBC1 a while ago, but I forgot how great the ending is. I love the look on Laurie's face when 'Michael' is by the front of the van, and how quick the head get's cut off, now who saw that coming?

The best "fuck with your head" ending was the ending to the original. I voted for the ending to H20 because that's the hero's ending. Regardless of artistic merit or truth or vermisimilitude or our own darkest thoughts, we all want good to triumph over evil, for the hero to ride off into the sunset, his job done.
To fight the good fight, and have it mean something.
So I voted for H20 not so much because its the "best" ending, by whatever criteria you choose, but because its the ending we all want, on some level. Sure, I'd give my eye teeth and left testicle to see Big Mike rage and roar all over Busta Rhymes' stupid head, but ultimately, we all want good to triumph over evil.
So the winner is H20.

Well, saying what the proverbial Hell and kicking off another great metaphysical debate, at the stages which many of the "beloved" horror franchies are at right now, can one really say that Michael Myers (or Jason Voorhees or Freddy Kruger, or any other multi-installment boogeyman) still qualifies as the "bad guy"?
(I must point out that many of the points to follow were originally made by the X-Files' Cigarette Smoking Man, William Davis, much more competently and humorously)
Michael is the character that has appeared in the most Halloween movies. Simple logevity has made him the protagonist, if not the outright hero, of the series. We have seen the tides of other evils break their backs against the rock in the stream of life that is Michael...the Thorn cult, drug users, bigots, stupid people, and, in a way, Michael has become this remorseless, unstoppable cipher for a "higher" or more "pure" morality, a law of the jungle where "justice" is perfunctory and punishment both swift and decisive.
For example, look at Bud in Halloween 2. Not the most salutory individual. He takes liberties with the nurse whose name I forget, smokes pot, is disrespectful of his elders (a big no-no in the morality of such films), and is generally cast as the Dionysian counterpart to the Apollonian, or at least whitebread, hero that Laurie rides off with at the end. Bud is shuffled off this mortal coil by Michael Myers.
What is the lesson we are intended to take from his demise, however unintentionally? The mad-dog killer is actually the hero, since he punishes people for dissipation and lack of morality. These sorts of films are, at their hearts, morality plays. Look at the premises of the films which kicked the "Big Two" series off in the first place. Michael initially annihilated Judith as she was in the process of a tryst with her boyfriend, punishing pre-marital sex and all the rest. Jason Voorhees drowned because the camp counselors were off having sex (or drinking or doing drugs or whatever; I've heard several stories), and, in the skewed, draconian morality of the series, had to pay for that trangression in an eye for an eye manner, with their lives.
Society has, in fact, changed so that the morality of the monster is actually seen as more right than the morality of his oft-hapless victims. Certainly, of all people, the likes of Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson, would agree with the morality which the murders of such luminaries as our beloved Shape enforce. Disrespectful young people are punished for lives of dissipation by essentially a force of nature.
Notice, too, that none of the protagonist killers are evil in a human sense. Michael Myers and Jaon Voorhees have essentially no personality, so they are simply death. They are not depraved. Look at an all too real killer like Ted Bundy or John Wayne Gacy, who racked up greater body counts than our fictional killers. These are universally admitted EVIL MEN, because they delighted in the pain and suffering of their victims, yet not so our supernatural hurricanes. They simply kill and move on.
In fact, ironically, individuals like Jason and Michael and their ilk have become the one hero that every social segment can root for. The conservative right can root for Michael as he punishes amoral, direspectful youths. Those same youths can root for Big Mike as he massacres the authority figures that are so derisive of youth. If you see society along racial or ethnic lines, you can take heart from the disproportionate number of white victims such killer characters have...I cannot remember Michael killing one Asian, Latin, or Middle Easterner, and he's bagged just two African-Americans over the course of six films. In fact, if you're a misogynist, Michael's numerous female victims make you smile, while feminists grin at the number of loutish men Michael has slain. Finally, if you're a melting pot, multicultural society advocate, the fact that such killers aren't especially picky WHO they kill has to be seen as a big triumph for equality.
So really, the simple fact that Halloween has lasted eight films, Friday the 13th ten (maybe eleven if we count "Freddy vs. Jason), Nightmare on Elm Street...what, seven films?...says that the "bad guy" has won many times, and keeps on doing so every time a nw installment is filmed.

I'm torn between the original, and H4.
The original was so creative, how Michael was gone, then is showed all the places he was, and all you heard was heavy breathing, that was genius.
Halloween 4, was just shocking! I was amazed to see that Jamie stabbed her stepmother. I didn't see it coming, and it was a very well executed conclusion in my opinion.
So to be quite honest I don't know which one to pick. They are both very well done endings.

I went with the original because I love how Michael is gone. Just looking down at the grassy area where he once was a second ago gives me the chills that he is still out there...ready to kill. Showing all the locations of where Michael had just been with the breathing behind the mask is intense and incredible. It really is the best ending for me. :D

Definitely agree it's a tough choice between the H1 and H4 endings as they both were so good.
I voted for H4 because this was the first Halloween film I saw, and H4 introduced me to the series overall. I was completely duped into thinking it would be Michael walking down the hall to stab Darlene. Completely shocked when it was Jamie.
With H1 (since I sort of went "back" to see this one after having seen H4), I think I already had a bias in knowing Michael wasn't going to be lying on the grass. But, I wasn't expecting the breathing/flashback montage. That was really brilliant. :)

Good point. Even though I hated h20, because it comepletley ignored the existence of 4-6, it had the most effective ending. I had this empty pit in my stomach. Michael Myers was gone. My favorite horror franchise was over. But the best ending is Halloween 1. It set the standard for all of the badass villian endings. He's finally dead, oh wait, no he's not. Damn.

I liked H20's ending the most because it was cool how they showed her feeling sympathy at first and then all of a sudden she just takes the axe and cuts the head off. Halloween 1's ending wasn't very good IMO because it took away the feeling that Michael was human because someone doesn't just dissappear in a matter of seconds after getting shot 6 times. It took away a bit of the original's realisim which was something that I loved about it. Still an excellent movie though.

Well, I sort of have to exclude H1 because it's a classic and in general the best. Therefore, I think H2 throughout is a great installment with an excellent ending especially because it has JLC and DP in it. H3 just has a strange existence. H4 had such a shocking perfect ending-H5 really dropped the ball. Sure, when I first saw H5 I liked it. but it just doesn't stand the test of time. The worst endings are: H6,H5,and HR. The best besides H1: H2, H4, H20, and H3 is at least suspensful.

My favorite endings in order:
H1
H2
H3
H4
H5
H6 tied with H20
H:R
They're all in order! Gee, the endings must get worse each time. But the most suspenseful endings are H1, H3, H4, and H5. H2's nicely "ends" the Myers storyline, H6 is just weird, H20's is so-so, and H:R is blah.

I think you should grade them as they stand alone. My decision on placing H20's ending where it is has nothing to do with the beginning of Resurrection, because an ending is an ending, and it doesn't make sense to me to see how the next chapter will influence a whole other movie, being the previous one. But that's just my opinion. Do you know what I mean though?

The ending of the original is still the best. When Loomis looks out of the window and Michaels body is gone....damn. I get cold chills every time I watch that. The idea that Michael is still out there and that those six point blank shots from Loomis didn't stop him leaves a lasting impression.
The end of H20 would be the runner up because it was so shocking. When she whacked the fake Michaels head off there was a gasp from the crowd at the theater. I was stunned because it seemed like this was truly the end of the series.

Personaly speaking i find the HII ending blows the Halloween ending out the water. And of course that is going to sound biased coming from me.
I'm not here to knock the ending of Halloween. The ending of Halloween is clever Loomis is expecting to see a body and he doesn't.
I just love the way just as you think thats that. Then Michael emerges from the flames.
That ending to me is slightly more chilling than the Halloween ending.
He's been shot, stabbed, set on fire & he is still on the move.

I liked the H4 ending. Pleasence's acting was great and Loomis' reaction was so out of character it seemed disturbing. I also thought the H6 P-Cut had a pretty good ending. H20 was cool if that was to be the last one. H2 excellent. H5 very cool Jamie screaming "Noooo!" sounds very tired and worn which she is by then. H1 was a classic. H3 was cool too. Halloween 4 definitely has the most jaw-dropping conclusion of them all, and is in my opinion the best of the series.

One was good becuase its soo open for a sequal that it would be better if they didnt make one. You see 2 and your like o ok thats what happens. And does anyone else think its odd (or maybe a different word) that almost all Friday The 13th/A Nightmare On Elm Street/Halloween endings try to give you one last scare or invite a sequal.

I like H1 for the cliffhanger ending. H2 I used to like a lot as an ending but I think H4 & H20 surprassed H2's ending for me. I like the fire ending, but something about it annoys me now. I loved it for a long time though. Just repeat viewings the fire tends to feel more like a cop-out. An easy way to "kill" Michael at that time.

Halloween. The houses and the breathing made the ending a lot creepier than any I've seen in the other films.

I think Halloween 4 had the best ending because Michael got shot like over 200 times by like 7 different guns... he fell in the dirt and he got stuck but then he got away when he realli should have been blown to pieces to end the series.

if i already have posted in here sorry... but my favorite ending is H2O cause she defeated what was supposed to be michael myers and was going to be happy ( uh yea right) But then they had to go and make another one and destroy that happiness! If it was up to me that would have been the last halloween.

I like the endings for H1 and H2, but the H3 ending is my favorite, because you rarely see the antagonist of a movie prevail anymore, which is a more realistic look on things.

So true...this is one of H3's best aspects. I think the closing tone of impending doom on the television viewers was an effective and even surprising approach. The ending, which clearly does not have a sound resolution, really gives you something to think about. H3 has one of my favorite endings in the series.

H1, H3, and H4 are probably my favorite endings.
In H1 you have the whole "picture is worth a thousand words type thing". The shot of the Myers-less side lawn confirms that every dramatic, over the top thing that Loomis had said about Michael was all true.
H3 as has been stated before, you have the sense of uncertainty. I especially love the way Tom Atkins plays it. The way his last shout of "stop it!" goes into an echo type thing and then becomes the awesome H3 main theme.
In Halloween 4 you have something that was somewhat typical by 1988. A big cliff hanger guaranteeing the next sequel. However because it's a halloween movie it has certain elements that put it above typical 'shock' endings that you would find in NOES or friday the 13th films. Perhaps some people figured out that it was Jamie the 1st time they watched the film, but I'll be honest, I never saw it coming. I remember being a youngster and thinking "how in the hell did he get back in the house!". The idea of him being back at the house waiting for them, while implausible, is very creepy. But alas, it's Jamie and that is something I don't think many people saw coming. And not to beat the Donald Pleasence horse, but he's the one guy who makes the thing work. The shot of the bloodied, dark eyed Jamie standing at the top of the stairs holding the knife is a very powerful one, but in the end it's Donald Pleasence's acting that serves as the glue holding the entire scene together. I'd compare it to Unsolved Mysteries. No matter how "out there" or over the top the story was that they were doing, you always had Bob Stack giving it class and forcing you to take it seriously.

"Halloween 4"
It was just so much of a shocker, and such a great series ender. It should've been the final movie, it would've been a kick ass send off!
I love it!

Man, this is a toughie...I voted H4 tho I really liked the endings for basically the entire series.
H1's ending was great in that it is simple yet effective. Throughout the whole film, this was the first time you find out that Michael is more then just a simple crazy person. When he disappears, it leaves a bad feeling in your stomach, then topped off with the breathing...just done very very well. The perfect ending for a low budget film.
H2's was another good ending, tho not as good as the first's, IMO. Everything (you think) comes to a happy ending with Michael finally meeting his end at the hands of Dr. Loomis (or so eveyone thought at the time). Laurie, albut frazzled, makes it out alive, and, it you go by the H2 TV cut, she is ready to start her new life, aparently with a love interest,
H3's ending was great too. I just love "bad" endings as they are usually so much more memorable. The whole (if I remember correctly) "Turn it off!" over and over again was pure suspense and leaves you queasy and speechless afterwards.
H4's was downright diabolical. Throughout the whole "mask-view", you're thinking "Aw crap! He's not dead!"...then to have them turn it around on you and finding out it's the sweet innocent 9yr old you've rooted for for the past 90 min! You dont know whether to be happy that its not Michael or worried because it's Jamie...simply terrific.
H5's ending was another one I really enjoyed. I love cliffhangers, and the whole Man in Black thing was, IMO, one of the best plot twists in the entire series...too bad the result was alot less interesting then it could have been. To see the MIB go into the Police Station and break Michael out...with Jamie crying "Nooooo..." into the credits...it had you on the edge of ur seat for years until H6.
H6's P-cut ending was well done as well, tho Im not a fan of the "power of the runes stopped him" crap...the whole clothes switching with Wynn was great...that final image of Michael, shrouded in shadows, walking away in the MIB's clothes was an awesome awesome image.
H6's theatrical cut's was...well...we wont mention it here because it really was the worst one in the series.
H20's would have been so much better, had it been the ending to the series. A short, simple axechop was well done, considering, for years, people have always said, "why dont they just cut off his head already!"...
H:R's was a decent ending...kind F13th like but I did think it was better then the workprint's ending...and def' better then the H6 t-cut ending.

I voted 5.
I loved when Jaime was saying no, although IMO, it would have been better had she screamed it, and you hear the desperation in her voice - then roll credits ;)
Parts 4 and H20 also had great endings though. So those 3 are my favorites.

I refuse to believe that Busta kicked Myers ass
I'm with you on that one. There is no way that annoying/terrible actor karate chopped Michael and won.
What a sorry ass ending. It just makes Michael look like a bitch, really pisses me off.

The Halloween endings range from decent to excellent. The only one I'm not too keen about is H:R. Just comes off as a cheap, kind of what you'd expect from an average Friday the 13th, movie. In fact, maybe I should take that back. I actually think that most of the F13 endings are fairly good, and many a step or two ahead of H:R's. Michael's wheeled into a coronary office and opens his eyes. Kind of lame..even boring and predictable.

1 and 2 both had amazing endings
1- right before michael kills laurie loomis saves her and shoots him "6" times and thinks its all over only to look out and see nothing, and we all know the killer is still on the loose and not just a normal man.
2-loomis and laurie run into the oxygen or operating room whichever. michael bashs the door down and is shot twise in the eyes, hes blinded so hes swinging randomly, then loomis is willing to sacrifice himself to bring down michael. then you think hes dead and he him walking our of the fire then finally brought down.
both awsome but i voted for 2 just because 1 is way ahead

What about the end of Halloween 6? I don't think the producers themselves could tell us what thats all about.

first the original halloween, because laurie lives on, and michael dissapears, gotta love all that, then h20, when the fight to the death, and u think lauries softened up to michael at the end, then she just chops of his head, it rocked

I really like the ending of the 1st one, with the heavy breathing and the camera shots of where Michael might be, spooky! Part 2 is sweet too, with him coming out of the flames. It's like an unstoppable force. Do, Do, Do, Mr. Sandman....

Which Halloween movie had the best ending? I think they are all very different, and some are better than others. But, Halloween 3 and Halloween 4 have the best IMO.
6 has the worst.

It'd be a tie between H2 and H4 for me. Love the intensity of H4 with Jamie stabbing her foster mother...it leaves you both stunned, frightened, and hanging. And I like H2 because that really is the end to that brutal night of all those killings and it's good to see some calmness at the end with Laurie surviving and going into the ambulance and all the next morning.

The original ending is great because one minute we see Michael on the grass after getting shot and the next minute he is gone. Then when they go threw the Dolye house and we hear him breathing makes things alot more creepy.

4 was memorable for me and really creepy when you're 8 years old watching it for the first time at the movies. So I must give props to 4.Best ending though..I gotta go with H2O.It would have and should have been the end.Things came full circle.None of this Resurrection or straight to dvd bullshit. The legacy would have been great-going out on top. But,some people are too greedy for their own good.

I disagree, Halloween 2007 had the worst ending.
And I disagree with that. RZH ending is probably tied with H4's ending to me as 2nd best. Both of which are surpassed by the original.
RZH's ending is great, I just love the dissolve from bloody maniacal Laurie to baby Laurie being held by Michael. Good stuff, imo.
