Well, you all knew I had to make a thread on this subject.
-Recently, FOX has said that The Simpsons is finishing up the series this season. (Since, The Simpsons didn't win the emmy award for best animated series) Well, as Matt Groening has said before, The Simpsons will be on as long as they always have some fresh ideas. So, FOX once again, spreaded a FALSE rumor.
(If they are right, then considered me sacked from giving the latest Simpsons news)

It is an awesome show and I'm a huge fan, but even I can say that it is nearing the point where they should end it. It is going downhill now, so they should end before it gets out of control.

The Simpsons are my favorite show. The old episodes that is. From 2001 and on, the episodes sucked. They were boring, the old Simpsons is the funniest cartoon of all time.

Actually, no. Family Guy was cancelled, and The Simpsons is the only thing FOX is making money off of. Even I can say FOX is shit.
(I hate the idea of them always taking a reality show to the next level.)

I have to say that lately the show has had weak storylines, but it has always been a favorite of mine. I know that if they did a major motion picture it would be a huge smash hit.
Shame Simpsons didn't win the emmy, they deserve it.

I like the treehouse of horror episode where he is "The Collector"! A menacing superhero with the intention of finding the most sought after collectibles! He had Xena!
My favorite treehouse of horror story would have to be 'I know what you did-diddly-did'. Flanders dresses like the fisherman and stalks the Simpson family. Defining moment of the episode- homer eating sugar crisp. Just awesome.

Yes. And the jingle he has to go along with it was equally funny. And at the end where they split up and homer tells them to go to all those scary places. The haunted disco, the lake where those teens died . Too bad it wasnt on my treehouse of horrors dvd. Maybe i should download that episode!

lmao, the 'The Shining' was funny. When Pinhead, Wolfman, Jason & Freddy all dragged Homer out of the pantry, lmao.
And the new episode shown in the UK tonight was funny: Homer as the Vigilante, Pieman. There's just so many funny things in the Simpsons. Like Homer whipping that little fat kid in the gym, lol. After giving a speech on how Lisa should be treated as a normal player on the hockey team, he then see's the fat kid and comments on his 'boobs', before chasing him and whipping him.
And when Homer chases the squirrels around the tree with a stick... lmao. Great show! Long live the Simpsons!

Its an annual Halloween special that the Simpsons do aside from the regualr season . So characters can die and things can happen but it doesnt affect the other episodes. The've spoofed the shinning, nightmare on elm street, i know what you did last summer, jaws, citizen kane, dracula, harry potter, childs play, and some twilight zone episodes. You can buy this http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B00009N80Z/qid=1097954735/sr=1-6/ref=sr_1_6/102-0815067-5000129?v=glance&s=dvd to see some of the best. :)
EDIT: I see you asked when and not what. Sorry, its the first episode of the season every year, this year being nov. 7. Sorry about that.

I think the Simpsons are okay. I don't see the huge pop culture status, but it is a funny show. I guess I don't see the big deal because I was never allowed to watch it when I was younger. My mom had issues with that one and Beavis and butthead, however I would never compare the simpsons to the dumbassness of those two. I am relieved to say I wasn't missing out on much by being forbidden to watch B&B. However I must have been missing out on something by being forbidden to watch The simpsons. So maybe it is just out of being "sheltered" that I am not totally into it.

If anyone thinks the simpsons are awful than are dumb and need to give it a chance. Yes their not as good as 3 years ago but their not awful either. Im looking forward to the new season. If anything is bad with the show is I think they think too much of how to put a celeb in the show thats it.

Yes that was the theme playing at the end. It was Kang and Kodos on their spaceship preparing dinner because their boss was coming to dinner. Had that sitcom feel and had the laugh track to it. Dinner was the simpsons. They showed the oven and everyone was cooking. Lisa and Marge were in a pie . Homer was eating himself. :D and Bart was frying in a pan. "Am i the only one who is in pain?" Bart , "No , but your the only one who wont shut up about it. " Homer. The boss came, ate the dinner. Gave Kang and Kodos a promotion then his stomach exploded and Bart came out" Cool , i'm vomit!" "But now i have no family" Then Kang, Kodos, and the Boss said they were his new family or something like that. And they had that hug and it was over. With the music playing and a montauge of the brief episode like on those shows.

Simpsons, to me, has gone downhill a bit. Every episode was funny in seasons 1-8, but since then, only a few episodes have been funny. Most have been pretty boring, no real plots any more and stupid jokes. Where's the witty, jibbing jokes from the past gone to?

November 11, 2004 — The show's writers are working on the long-promised feature film, with a possible 2008 release date. They've even laid down some possible plotlines (not that they're ready to reveal any). ''There are a couple things on the show that I steered away from what might be in the movie,'' Jean says. ''The biggest thing is you don't want to do a movie that's not reflective of the quality of the show, and you don't want the quality of the show to slip because you're doing the movie. So we're taking a little time.'' Or rather, a lot.

Best Buy, or anywhere else that sells DVDs. They're getting cheaper and cheaper since no one is buying them because they usually just have 4-6 episodes.

All Simpsons DVD Boxsets are super-cheap on amazon.com (except for four and the five, because they're newer). I could be wrong about Four, but they are very cheap, if I do remember correctly. Just go on over there and order them up, they're only about $14.99 or so.

I used to love the Simpsons! I will never forget when my babysitter forced me to watch the very first episode and then I was hooked! :D
I love the episode where Homer is Mr. Plow but there are many, many greats. I mostly like the older episodes...I don't find the newer ones very entertaining. However, there will always be a place in my heart for The Simpsons...especially Homer :D

I love the episode of April Fools. When Bart shakes up the beer can and Homer opens it. So funny. And when they think Homer will never wlak, he goes and walks right up to a candy machine and gets crushed by it! The most funniest part of that episode, was when Bart admitted he shook the can to a comatosed Homer, when his bleeping machine suddenly changes from a green line and into the shape of Bart's head, he elaps up screaming "THE BOY!".
I love the old simpsons so much.

I thought I'd give a heads up to anyone that plans on getting the new dvd set. The Simpsons: Complete Fifth Season comes out Tuesday and so far, the best place to get it is at Best Buy. In the upcoming Sunday ad, they have it listed for $29.99 which isn't bad. The ad also says, save $10 instantly when you purchase any two seasons. Season one is listed at $29.99 and season 2-4 is $39.99 each.

There will be a new episode after the superbowl that sounds pretty good. Homer will be performing the superbowl halftime in the episode. A lot of sports stars are in the episode include Tom Brady, Warren Sapp, Lebron James, Yao Ming, and Michelle Kwan. They each will do their celebration dances to show Homer what to do during the halftime show. Here's the full story:

man i hope the simpsons dont go away- but i heard a totally different rumor... i read it in one of the university independent newspapers... so, i dont honestly know if its true, but its amusing.
In short: rumors are circulating that in an upcoming episode this season one of the characters will "come out of the closet" and admit to being gay. the rumor started when the exec. producer was talking about an episode where springfield legalizes same sex marriage to solve the town's cash problems. etc etc. anyway. fans over the age of 21 can now bet money on who they think it will be. the site is BetUS.com - it supposedly lists possible character choices with the odds on who is the safest and which one will pay the most. etc.
anyway-so far a lot of ppl are betting. if you would like me post a link to the whole article i will. anyone else heard anything else about it? or is this fresh news?

In the name of all that is sacred, they should let The Simpsons die. It's a shadow of what it once was. The new episodes are awful, especially compared w/ the superb older ones. Don't get me wrong, The Simpsons is my all time favorite show, but it pains me to see what it has become. It jumped shark back around season 9. All it is now is a giant cash cow, and it's under contract to produce shows until 2009. Enough already! Sad.

I know I've been bagging on the new episodes, but I checked out the gay marriage episode (mainly because I'm passionate about the issue) and I've got to say it was the most I've laughed at a new episode in years. I'll eat crow on that episode. Hopefully I'll see shows like that on a consistent basis.

I wish The Simpsons would just turn to sindication only from now on. Ever since season 6 I wanted it to end. Family Guy is superior to Simpsons as is. Thats why FOX cancelled it to begin with. Everyone who works on the Simpsons hates Family Guy, but Seth McFarlane just laughs about it. Rightfully so, he has the superior show.

Then why would FOX cancel it? And how is Family Guy superior to The Simpsons? Family Guy is just a bunch of cheap jokes. Now, occasionally The Simpsons has some cheap jokes, but that's only because they make it for the audience who likes cheap jokes. Like you and me. Yes, that's right, I like cheap jokes. And I like Family Guy. But, unfortunately I like The Simpsons more. And where did you get this idea about the "people" who work at The Simpsons hate Family Guy?

He has a point. I laugh my ass off alot more when watching the family guy. Simpsons is more like a sitcom now.

I could probably write a short essay on this, but I'll just sum up.
I agree with what you say. I think The Simpsons pretty much jumped shark around season 9. At first I didn't like Family Guy because I thought it was a Simpsons rip off, and you have to admit they have similar elements. I've even seen the same joke. "Hit me" ring a bell to anyone?
After awhile I grew to like Family Guy, and I agree there is no question Family Guy is a superior show now. Now.
The Simpsons is still my all time favorite show but the quality of the new episodes (or lack thereof) brings me down.
ps - they should bring back Futurama too. I loved that show.

The simpsons is still funny. Sometimes i admit the new shows suck, but they are still really good sometimes. Remeber the infomersial about restraining orders. Funny as hell. LOL.

The shows cool I just hate how they make them look like actual cartoons now I like the old school look.

FOX cancelled it because it rivaled a show that they have a lot wrapped up in, why not. They only spend $10,000 on Family Guy and millions on the Simpsons. If Family Guy hurt the Simpsons, then that financially hurts them where as if they continued the Simpsons and cancelled Family Guy, they still make millions and no one important is hurt right...wrong. Family Guy was the most watched show in sindication and had the highest DVD sales of any show. Superior, yep...competition, definately...back on the air to kick the Simpsons sorry ass, you betcha.
If Pop Cultrure references are "cheap" well then I guess I like cheap jokes. Family Guy as a cartoon in the architypal way (meaning animated humor) is far superior to Simpsons, as a show I guess you could argue whos better. It'd be nice to see Family Guy get a respectable budget.
I once liked the Simpsons too, back in the early days. Lately I'm just annoyed. I don't mean to come in hear and stir up a bunch of shit, thats not my style and I admire that you and others have opinions. I'm just voicing my own.
It's a known fact that the people at the Simpsons hate Family Guy and if you go to The Official Family Guy website, Seth McFarlance did and interview with The Onion AV Club and talked about it.
Lastly, I thought that the gay marrige episode was meant to be as hyped as "Who Shot Mr. Burns," but I think it flopped...a few good jokes here and there. By the way "who shot Mr. Burns" ruled my face.
So in conclusion, jump the shark all you want Fonz...your only the shadow of your former self. Peace.

Why would they cancel it if it rivals one of its other shows. that makes no sence. If anyhting they should be happy that more people are watching.

It's all about money as Rabbit in Red said above, that's also how it was with Futurama, Matt Groening said that Fox wouldn't let Futurama become the new Simpsons and therefore hated it and cancelled it, I wish Futurama would come back I love that show. The Simpsons is a good show but I like Family Guy a lot better now, it is alot funnier IMO.

As Ringu said, its strictly about the money. Maybe you didn't understand my point. People watching Family Guy or Futurama inevidably hurts The Simpsons. Thats ratings, sponsors, merchendise, and so forth. Why not stop the bleeding and take a $10,000 hit by cancelling Family Guy, when your going to continually forcefeed The Simpsons to viewers wanting that kind of comedy. The plan would have been successful hadn't Adult Swim and Cartoon Network come into play. Now FOX isn't the only one to have done this. Nick is notorious for these kinds of actions. Whatever it takes to make a quick buck I guess.

I'm with you Ringu. I loved loved loved that show!
If it came back though, I just hope it would be the same quality. It'd really pain me to see it lose it's quality.

Me too, the same with Family Guy, I hope it's as good (preferably better) than it was before it got cancelled.

I never knew this, but Hank Azaria (sp) was on Conan O'Brian last night. I just found out he does the voices of Moe, Lou the Cop, Apu, The comic book guy, and Chief Wiggum. He did the voices too, he was hilarious
