Ok, for some reason, a lot of people think everyone here is a 'newbie', well to a lot of other people, we're not...we've just been moved...


...but, we are getting some real newbies who are just finding an official board for the first time...this thread is for you!!

If you are brand new to the boards...or if you were new before uhmb moved...let us know. If you'd like to be 'adopted' by a vet just say so here, and an established member/vet will get with you to see if they'd like to 'adopt' you. What we (the established members) are here for are to help you get around the board and answer any questions you might have.

So...newbies...let us know who you are, and vets, let us know who wants to participate!!

ETA: You should have 6 months of board time before you adopt a newbie. Any before that is just too soon; you're still new yourself

I never got this 'adoption' thing, even back on the UHMB. I always seem to be left out of things! Can someone please explain to me the logistics of being adopted, then maybe I'll offer myself in some sort of lottery type raffle prize-draw :D

Adopt-A-Newbie is basically a way to help people become acquainted with the board & people. It offers newbies the chance to be paired with someone they can rely on to answer their questions.
When I first UHMB in 2002, Neo adopted me. He was happy to answer any of the questions I had. He would often PM me to just talk, get to know one another. Eventually, I opened up to the board and became part of the community. It was nice having someone be so friendly and helpful.

Overall, I say it serves as a stepping stone for welcoming new people. That way, they have someone to answer their 'little' questions and make a friend in the process.
