I was watching h5 at work the other night, and remembered how much I loved it...now I want to know which one you guys like!
I, of course, went with 5. I love the knife slashing throughout the beginning...
I sorta like 4, but the beginning of 4 made it feel like I was going to watch a Children of the Corn movie for some reason

Thats the one I like.. the music and all the different shots of Halloween decorations and farmland just make it work. H5 is great too.. I think the opening sequence is actually the greatest part of that entire movie.. or at least the most creative. :)

I pretty much liked them all but H2 was cool to me. I like how they stared off with Mr. Sandman and the song fades out to the ending of H1.

I totally agree. Something about that opening sequence just does it for me. I thought it was the perfect way to set up Halloween 2.

Love almost all of them but it's a toss uo between H2 & H3
My toss-up is between H1, H4 and H5...
H4 is most atmospheric so that's what I voted :)

usually i vote halloween in these polls, but in this case i went with halloween 4. i thought the opening credits did a great job in setting the mood and telling us it was autumn/halloween season in haddonfield. at the same time the music created a nice, dark feeling. i also really liked that they didn't use the halloween theme right away.

I really like H3's opening with the animated Jack-O-Lantern and then showing Grimbridge running away from the assasins.

Halloween 4 features my favorite opening. The creep and subtle audio along with the farm filled outskirts of Haddonfield are perfect for an opening. It was shot at the perfect time, just when the sun was setting in the evening. A cool breeze was blowing... the beginning is perfect. The skeleton cut out acked to the wooden shack and the skull painted onto the mailbox are unforgettable.

I know what you mean. I expected to finally see what "He Who Walked Behind The Rows" looked like.
Little bit off topic, but you know, I never have seen any more CotC films past part 3.
Also, I like the H20 opening the best. The orchestral Halloween theme was cool - the louder the better.

What actually constitutes as the official opening scene in H2o? The pumpkin carving at the beginning. Or the following scene after the two detectives walk out of the room containing all of Myers photo's/newspaper cutouts?

My favorite opening title sequence is H4, I'd say. The harvesting images, the autumn breeze, and the outline of the witch against the sun-setting sky really sets you in the mood. A little research goes a long way, creating an effective and spooky opener.

HalloweeN 4.It exemplifies everything that Halloween is.If that isnt good enough,I dont know what is.And I doubt they'll ever open a Halloween film up that way again.Brilliant.

Indeed. There were actually three slightly different versions seen in the opening credits; one of them was originally used in the German and Spanish lobby sets. I have the one which appears directly after the "Dr. Loomis - Past Obsession?" clipping with Michelle Williams' name onscreen. :)

I voted for II, altough I like IV because it feels very seasonal.
When I heard about H:20, I thought for sure they'd go back to
using the pumpkin opening, but they totally fucked it up and didn't use it....nor did Ressurection. It's strange, the last two films which were meant to bring 'light' to a dying series only helped to bury it without any air.
I hope that H9 does something to make up for the last two attempts at good movies. And I hope it has a more traditional title sequence.

I have to admit H4 has a pretty good opening.Like Kara & i mentioned this before over at UHMB there were certain bits in the opening of H4 that reminded me abit of "Children Of The Corn".
But in saying that H2 gets my vote.Just before the opening credits Loomis says that line "You don't know what death is" then the music starts up,Pumpkin appears on the screen. As the music is getting deeper we are moving towards the pumpkin & then it begins to split open.Revealing another face.Maybe it's the face of evil and as we go through the blackness of the eye socket we are now behind some of the houses in Haddonfield.
cheers

H4 and I'll tell you why....
You see, I've always had a fond interest in old, antique ridden things. Now the H4 opening isnt necessarily all this but it has the feeling of being there for quite some time. I like to think in depth about things like that - I can't explain why I like it. I just know that I like old farm equipment and machinery...I think it may just be the fact that it's been through so many things. You know, maybe a couple of kids came through one year and took an old garden hoe and beat an old tractor with it - 8 years after the original owner had long forgotten it. I just like to think about things like that...and seeing the old Halloween decor and all...I - uhggh....it just get's to me and I LOVE it.
I absolutely LOVE the H4 opening!!
I just wish the mask were better, then it would have been a perfect film!!

Definitely Halloween 2's opening 'cause I liked how they had Loomis say sternly: "You don't know what death is." And then the music starts playing. I've always liked the H2 music slightly more then H1's because it creeps me out more for whatever reason.

Yeah, the opening titles for Halloween: H20 were cool, I loved the newspaper cliping's(except for the one that says "Laurie Strode, survivor of the 1968 Halloween massacre" ), I also like the little thuder clap as the door slams and the "A Dimension Films Release" banner comes up. The same in Halloween: Resurrection, as the Dimension films logo comes on and the Halloween theme starts playing, right at the beginning. :) Oh, little help. As the H:R opening titles morph into the tunnel, and the music is fading, their are these really strange sound effects, anybody tell what the hell their meant to be?

In order, mine is H4, H5, H2, H1, H20, H3, H8, H6 t-cut.
H4's is perfect, with the Halloween feel, the breeze noise, and then turning into the dark and rainy night. H5 is a close second. It was good to see the pumpkin return, and the slashes were great.
H6 opening was the worst ( the voice over was dumb, they should have changed what Rudd said) and H8 had absolutely nothing special, except for the end it turns into ....A TUNNEL ( WOW!!) :)

I always have to go for the original. There is just something about a six year old who kills his sister dressed as a little clown for Halloween. Makes you think about your little brother or sister doesn't it? Do you really know them? It's a great opening! :spooky:

Since this is about the opening title sequence and not the opening scene, I have to go with H20. The slow camera moves showing all of the newspaper and magazine articles with the Loomis voiceover and the music was great.
By the way... anyone know who did the Loomis voiceover? I heard they didn't use Donald Pleasence's speech from the first film for some reason. Or am I just totally wrong?
ITSMEBILLY
06-23-2006, 09:57 AM
That right they didnt they used a voice actor because they said Plesances original reading of the lines wernt 'powerfull or emotional' enough.
The Dark Shape
06-23-2006, 11:03 AM
Pleasence's line readings were great for the actual scene, but they needed more of an emphasis on the creepiness for H20's credits. Hence, the voice actor (Tom Kane).
My ratings:
1. Halloween II
2. Halloween H20
3. Halloween
4. Halloween 4
5. Halloween: Resurrection
6. Halloween 5
7. Halloween III
8. Halloween 6
punkin
06-23-2006, 12:08 PM
I think H2 just edges past H1 since as the music continues the pumpkin splits open to reveal an evil human skull. Then, we go into the skull's eye and segue into the scene looking out of the Shape's eyes (point-of-view) just as the music ends with the Shape breathing. It keeps up the motion and is just Great!
btw, does anyone know where I can get the script to H2? Not a transcript, but an actual screenplay as John Carpenter and Debra Hill wrote it.

usually i vote halloween in these polls, but in this case i went with halloween 4. i thought the opening credits did a great job in setting the mood and telling us it was autumn/halloween season in haddonfield. at the same time the music created a nice, dark feeling. i also really liked that they didn't use the halloween theme right away.
Again H4 was the Halloween movie that got me into the franchise, this opening was one of those things that changed the way I look at a movie!

H2 had the best opening sequence, the entire beginning reminding people what happened in part 1, having Loomis tell the neighbor "you don't know what death is!!" and the creepy ass revised version of the original song which is still the best, the original song is and will forever be the best, and then having the Jack-O-Lantern open and turning into a skull, that shit was creepy.

Halloween II is my favorite.
"Mr. Sandman",
The great Loomis line, "You don't know what Death is!"
The cool version of the Halloween theme, and the pumpkinsplitting open is good too!

I voted for the original film, simply because I think the opening credits is one of the best parts about it. The second movie as well, obviously, because it's practically the same. But, yeah, I can't recall many opening sequences more harrowing than the blackness with the pumpkin face very slowly getting closer and closer, with the orange text. So simple but so perfect.
I loved Rob Zombie's Halloween but my only disappointment was the lack of an imaginitive title sequence (Okay, the workprint had one, but it was boring!) to go with John Carpenter's theme song which they so rightly chose to keep, so yeah, I'm pretty into that opening sequence.
I also should definitely mention Halloween III's, because that thing had such a great tone to it. It seems to go on forever but the whole thing with the old 80s computer slowly generating a pumpkin, line by line, where the blips become part of that ominous warm synth score, has such a unique feel to it. No matter how many times they play nails-on-chalkboard sounds or rusty metal noises in a modern horror movie, nothing seems to do it quite like a classic moog synth.
I'm getting carried away here a bit... Halloween 1 is my favourite.

I went for H4. H20 was a strong contender (the opening title sequence is one of the very few things I'd say I love about that one...minus the Tom Kane voiceover, that is), but H4 muscled it out because it's just so damn dark and brooding. No opening sequence captures my attention and psyches me up for the movie quite like H4's.
