Tell us what your favorite Halloween soundtrack is, and why! :D
HalloweeN63

I have to go with H1. All the sounds and tracks from it are beautiful. They set a nice mood for me while watching Halloween, or while just listening to the soundtrack. All the soundtracks to come after for the other films were undoubtedly (and obviously) inspiried by the first, so to me, H1 is the best.
H4 would be my second fav. That soundtrack OWNS!

Just to let you know the soundtrack for H20 is called Portrait of Terror. As for the question, I don't really know how to answer this one. Either 2,3, or 4 - too close to call. That's a toughie!

H3 is my favorite! It's still in the same electronic style as the H2 soundtrack, but an altogether different score.

I think Resurrection's rendition of the theme is excellent, but the rest of the score is only serviceable. And I love Ottman's orchestra in H20... and of course the original is bloody fantastic... but there's just something I flat-out love about Halloween 4's score.
And H6: Producer's Cut features a rather brilliant score as well.

H3 is special in the fact that Carpenter and Howarth went all out on the soundtrack - that is, they composed a dozen tracks with no repeating themes, whereas the first two did not have this quality. The electronic synthesizer score gave a creepy feel and mood to both the second and third soundtracks and is indeed a very strong asset.

Oh yeah, I knew H20's soundtrack was called Portrait of Terror. I just didn't put it in the poll because I was typing everything off the top of my head. *shrug*

I like the 20th anniversary edition with the clips of the movie in between the music. And even though I don't have the H4 soundtrack I love whatever music is used during the opening title sequence.

The Shape Stalks Again and the main theme from HII are great.
While, the H4 reprise track and Downstairs Alone were great pieces of Halloween music.I remain tied between these two CDs.

Ugh. I really can't stand H2's synthesizer theme. But The Shape Stalks Again was impressive.

H6 P-Cut had all the original soundtracks and more. I think it is the best. H2 and H4 where also very excellent and in a close second. The rest of the films I think fell dramatically short of delivering a good soundtrack.

"The Shape Enters Laurie's Room" and "Still He Kills" are more classics from the H2 soundtrack. Oh yeah, and "In the Operating Room". Heck, most of them rock anyway.

Hey Vincent, when you said "repeating themes" what did you mean by that. Did you mean you never heard the same track twice in the film?

No, I mean some elements of certain songs repeat the same elements from other songs. For instance, the main theme and Laurie's theme is repeated throughout the original soundtrack. The songs aren't exactly the same but they are used twice with some variation.

I absolutely love the original. Though I'd love to hear it "updated" just so it doesn't sound so dated. Not changed at all, but done on modern equipment...
I also adore the H20 soundtrack. Ottoman's score. Not Beltrami's junk that they threw in the final cut of the flick.

Halloween:Resurrection.

I think Resurrection had the best renditioin of the main theme. The female vocals really added a deeper sense of eerieness to the cue.
As for overall score, I'm torn between Halloween 1 and 2. 1 was a better score for subtle suspense, 2 had more adrenaline and excitement to it. The aggressive drumming mixed in every now and then was a very nice touch.

I love the original because it is the original
I love 2 because it adds depth to the original
I love 4 because of its beginning
I love 5 because of 4
I love 6 because it was different
I love 7 because of the beginning sequence
I love 8 because of the female vocals and the depth it adds
My favoirte of all these I think is Halloween 2 I love it the way the original theme starts up slow when Michael sits back up......

I thought Beltrami's cues worked really well over the Screams, but that was the problem. They just used the exact same(not similar, but the same)cues from the Scream films in H20. Watching a franchise film with another franchise's theme really takes me out of a movie. Beltrami did the same thing with his Blade 2 and T3 scores(listen to the music over the Nomak/Blade fight and the TX/T-850 fight). I blame Miner and the music producers in this case though, not Beltrami. Overall I think he's a good composer. His Hellboy score was beautiful.
I agree that Ottman did a realy good job scoring H20.

This is hard. I like them all.
H1 gets my vote because it's the original and it's perfect! Can't beat that. Last Halloween when giving out candy I played my H1 and H5 soundtracks since that's only what I had at the time. It was cool playing them on the porch. I loved the creepy feel given in the atmosphere. This year, I'll be playing my other ones too! Anyway, my preferred order of soundtracks, don't have them all though, but by favorite theme:
H1
H4
H5
H3
H2
H6
H8

the H6 P-Cut has a great opening mix, as well as the rest of the tracks.
I also LOVED Ottman's H20 theme and the Resurrection theme was great, however the film is a completely different story.
Letdowns were H5 for me, and, while I like several scores from H4, i think the main "tapping" part of the movie was played out too fast, and the background beats came into the mix a little too sudden and early for me.
besides that its pretty good.
H2 has never been much of a favorite, but i have grown to like certain parts of it.
and then there is the original - GREAT.

Go H3, coming in second place! :D That truly is a kickass soundtrack. I'm surprised no one chose H6..which I've been listening to a lot lately.
I'll go with H2 as being my favorite soundtrack, which only beats H3 by a slight margin. The electronic score is much livelier than the original one, which can be too boring depending on the mood you're in. Like H3, H2 does not have a single bad track, and I think the same can be said for H4 too.

The question posed by this thread now confuses me. I don't know if we're either supposed to explain whether or not what our favorite CD soundtrack is, or what movie we think has the best music. Two choices are: Halloween 20th Anniversary (CD soundtrack) and H6 Producer's Cut (movie). By no one choosing H6, I was under the impression that no one thinks the H6 CD is the best soundtrack. But there is not soundtrack for the P-cut. It is confusing. Do you understand what I mean though?

Everything about the H3 soundtrack is awesome, imo.
I love the H1 and H2 soundtracks as well, but I'd be sooner to pop in the H3 cd. The repetitiveness of the H1 themes don't work as well for me when I'm listening to them outside of the film, so I rarely listen to the cd unless it's around the holiday.

This is a tough one for me because I really love the soundtracks to the first 4 halloween films. Right now I can't decide, so until further notice i'm bailing out with a 4 way tie between H1, H2, H3, and H4 :D.
MyersFan927

I'm surprised the H1 20th Anniversary is winning. After all, it is mainly just dialogue. Don't get me wrong though, the CD is worth having, even if just for the opening song.
I'll stick to my tie between H2 and H3, with H4 coming in close. H3 may have a slight edge because all of the songs are original, and let's face it, the others keep reating themes. I almost can't stand listening to the whole H1 disc because it's the same stuff all over again. H3 provides the best of variety. Excellent music by the collaboration of Carpenter and Howarth.

H3's soundtrack OWNS. Just watching the film the other night reminded me of that. I love the music in the opening credits as the main theme.

My favourite soundtrack belongs to Halloween 4. The reason is because most of them start off slow, and then the HalloweeN theme kicks in at the end( like the opening theme, garage, reprise, and downstairs alone:) ) and it sound really crazy! Another reason is because it has "Myer's Finale"....which is my most favourite soundtrack of the whole series. My next favourite is Ressurrection's score; while I didn't like that movie much, it's soundtrack was a BIG improvement from H20's.

Halloween 6 Producer's Cut. The Halloween theme in that movie wasn't great, but the rest of the soundtrack was like the music from Halloween I, II, and III. The ceremony music is the best. That part always reminds me of Halloween III's music.
In my order of favorite to least:

Halloween 1, no doubt in my mind, had my favorite score. Simplistic, yet scary. The music kept the movie's tempo. slow, and dreadful. suspense was and is without a doubt the scariest element of every Halloween movie.
H20 threw a whole new spin on the original. the orchestra really seperated itself from the rest. i really enjoyed that score.
all are good, just in their own style with the time they were created.

I truly love the H5 soundtrack. It is so well done. I love the first one too, but this one just felt more creepy. It also made the movie watchable for me. Although I think it is still good none the less. The Evil Child Must Die is such a creepy song.

Halloween II. The soundtrack is part of the feel I love so much about that film.

I've got to go with the original release of H1. I remember a time when the original soundtrack was not available. It was finally released on vinyl in 1983, some 5 years after the release of the film! But it was worth the wait. All the other soundtracks (except H3) are really just reworkings of the original material.

Halloween 6 Producer's Cut. The Halloween theme in that movie wasn't great, but the rest of the soundtrack was like the music from Halloween I, II, and III. The ceremony music is the best. That part always reminds me of Halloween III's music.
In my order of favorite to least:
H6 P-Cut
H1
H2
H3
H4
H5
H20
H8
H6 T-Cut
I have not seen the curse of michael myers, the soundtrack might sound technoish, dont you think?

H6 P-Cut had all the original soundtracks and more. I think it is the best. H2 and H4 where also very excellent and in a close second. The rest of the films I think fell dramatically short of delivering a good soundtrack.
I think H6 T-cut was better than the P-cut (talking about the soundtrack, but same goes for the movie)
I think H4 and H1 are equal. H4 was very close to the original but with added flavor

Nothing tops the score of the original. It is moody, creepy and suspenseful. It makes especially good use of the musical noises(thats what I cal them, lol) like when Laurie is in the dark street and she runs into Michael. Or when shes in the Wallaces' house and the Shape appears from the closet behind her.
None of the other movies truely utilitized the music as well as the first one did. I am hoping since Rob, a musician, is the director of the remake that it will once again make very good use of music for setting mood, among other things.

I like a lot the Official H6 soundtrack (i Have it) and theres a lot of the music on the CD that we dont hear in the movie....IMO Alan Howarth was the best Halloween composer...of course after John Carpenter :D, the last 2 so called Halloween Movies missed his composing talent.

I have all nine soundtracks, and I have to say that I enjoy listening to the 20th anniversary edition CD of the original film the most. Still... I enjoy all of them to various degrees.

Now dammit, this is a tough one. Ranking the films is far easier than the soundtracks. I like them all to some degree, own all but H:R. Really the music is so similar in most of them it's hard to distinguish, especially being that most are composed by JC and/or Howarth.
I guess h1 wins for me, and it would be a mix of the 20th anniversary and original edition (I prefer certain tracks on each album). H2-H4 are all pretty close in my book. I found the rock theme in H6 horrible, but other parts of the sountrack are great. I also enjoy Ottman's H20 score, love the orchestrations, but it lacks a certain "scaryness".

This might be the easiest question to answer ever. Hands down, the best soundtrack to me would have to be the Halloween III soundtrack. I absolutely love all the tracks and I love listening to them all...not just some tracks here and there. The HalloweeN theme from the original is a classic and I love many of the tracks from all the films, but overall...Halloween III is easily the best and I never get sick of it.

I really like the soundtracks from all Halloween movies. Unfortunately I don't have the soundtracks to H6 and H7. H2 and H3 are cool because of the synthetic music. H1 is cool because it has some dialogue from the movie.

HII had my fav version of the Main Theme (the church organ...awww)
I just loved the sound of Jamie's nightmare.....it just seemed to give off a feel of Innocence....
H20 had a beautifully scored orchestra version of the maint theme....my second favorite version
H3's soundtrack had a few tracks that reminded my of some Final Fantasy soundtracks....which is a good thing!

I voted for part IV, even though it was a close tie between that and part II. I'm surprised how many voted for part I. Don't get me wrong, its classic, but the most repetitive of all the scores. Portrait of Terror is awesome, to bad most of it is missing from H:20.

I'm going to have to give my order as....
1 (perfect, or super close, I can hear a couple recording mistakes, but otherwise perfect).
2 (closest thing to the original yet, has that great Halloween feel to it).
5 (I'm omitting the 80's guitar and clown music because they are not on the actual soundtrack cd's, the actual score is fantastic- though the theme could have been better and it could have used more themes from the original).
3 (pretty damn good, Drive to Santa Mira is an awesome piece)/4 (the technoesque theme is the only bad part about 4's soundtrack and it hurts the film).
6 (don't care for all the guitars, but the keyboard/synth and samples are all good).
8 (pretty good, but doesn't always have that Halloween feel)/6 P-cut (a few good pieces, but otherwise the music is just alright and doesn't often fit the film).
7 (a couple of good pieces, but the orchestal music is not Halloween; not counting that Beltrami Scream crap added in later).

Halloween II.
Well, it's my favorite one because it's faster-paced, it's more aggressive than the original version and because it sounds so 80's.
The only problem I have with it, it's that it's not as effective/scary as the original theme song but well, it still sets the mood.
I know you'll find this ridiculous, but every time I listen to it, I always end up dancing to it. :jump:

Halloween 5 soundtrack is my favorite, while the film is one of my least favorites the music is brilliant. Alan Howarth created a very atmospheric and creepy soundtrack for the film, it's a very dark toned and tense soundtrack and works well. Some of my personal favorite tracks are, The Revenge, The Shape Also Rises, A Stranger In The House, Tower Farm, The Attic and Jail Break.

did any one else enjoy this score i loved the electric guitar version of The Shape Stalks
I personally loved the electric guitar version of all the themes in the H6 t-cut. I liked the T-Cut score WAY better than the P-Cut score.
The best part about the H6 T-Cut score that I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE is this 1:43-2:20 little bit. The *Booooooow* of the guitar is awesome and creepy.

Aside from the original, I would have to say my favorite score is either Halloween II or Halloween 6 - Producer's Cut. I like the synthesized soundtrack of H2. I find synthesizers to sound scary (if done right). But I also love the creepiness of the H6 - P-Cut soundtrack. It's great!
