I was going to do this on UHMB but nonetheless it is gone.
Ok my idea was that on the UHMB there was too many threads about a movie that would have like one or two other posts on it. Here you can post a review for a movie you have just seen, and we discuss it on here without taking up threads that could of been for something else. You don't have to post reviews for big blockbusters that will have huge threads by themselves; (Star Wars Ep. 3, Batman Begins, Spider-Man 3 MUHAHAHA *Clears Throat*) But like for movies which you loved and want to sell it to other people, post a review. You can use your own rating system, it always seems like people have their own. But I just thought this would be a pretty cool thing, oh and if everybody else on here think this is a stupid idea don't post and tell me I am a retard so I can hide in my little corner. But one rule; actually post a review, don't just give a rating. It can be a 5 page essay, or just two sentences, but post something.
Ok I will start:
Cellular (2004)
Directed by
David R. Ellis
Writing credits (WGA)
Larry Cohen (story)
Chris Morgan (screenplay)
Well it took a while but finally a movie about cell phones and their use. I saw this little piece last Friday, my friends and I were deciding between this and Mr. 3000 and I'm glad we picked this movie. If you don't know the plot a woman (Kim Basinger) is kidnapped by a gang of thugs for a reason she doesn't know and is thrown into a attic. She uses a broken land line phone to connect with a young surfer dude (Chris Evans) who doesn't really care about anything but himself. Of course over time he learns to care about other people and help this woman.
This movie is hip, funny, has some great dialoge, and the action ain't too savy. The acting is pretty good too, but of course it is the bad ass villain who shines. The leader of the kidnappers is a no name bad ass played by the very cool Jason Statham. If you don't know who Jason Statham is watch The Transporter or The Italian Job and you will see how cool this man really is. But anyhow without giving away too much spoilers William H. Macy gets involved as the suspicious cop who over time finds out what is wrong. But of course it doesn't go without its faults. It has been so many times before you almost know is coming. But if you want a great time at the theaters and Spider-Man 2 has left the megaplex, catch this movie, you will love it. 7/10

No it was a good idea. Give it time, I haven't seen any movies this year except Spider-Man 2 (and I'm fine with seeing that it was worth it) or I would review stuff.

No way. Great discussion can come from this Phatmaster.
As for Cellular, I totally agree. Great movie, especially for coming out in September, the official end of the summer flick season. I found Kim Bassinger especially enjoyable.

Ya i know, but arent you the least bit excited to see the lizard in the movie. Heck i wanted Venom and Carnage, but they spent 2 movies seting this up so why not follow along. Just think of the fight between spidey, lizard, and the new goblin. Pretty nice thought. I can see it happening in a sewer in the dark with shades od light coming through. With the lizard after spidey underground meanwhile the goblin flying around above ground blowing the street out with bombs. I can see it now...

so what's wrong? In comics happened many times that Spidey fought against two (or three) villains at time so why can't it happen in a movie?Lizard is a great villain (one of the first Spidey ever faced)maybe I wouldn't have involved the Green Goblin again but I think it's not important the villains number but the way they're put togheter on the screen.Sam won't disappoint us,believe me

Comics and movies are different. For example Tim Burton made a great superhero with Batman, Batman Returns he included two villains and it was never the same again.
I would love to see The Lizard in SM3, but including Harry could just ruin it.

I knew you would have said that but an unhappy movie (not so bad even if not like the first Batman) doesn't show anything beside Catwoman can't be put at the same level of Lizard and the same goes for the Penguin.I'm a little annoyed by the return of the Green Goblin too (two times in three movies is too much) but I'm confident in Raimi;like I said it doesn't matter villains' number but how they're put togheter

Title: Mean Girls

Would you reccommend it: Yes.
Grade: A
Review: Awesome movie! Very funny for a film that is PG-13 film. Great performances by the 4 leads, especially Lohan and McAdams, but the real standout performance was Lizzy Caplan, she was so awesome. I love the way everything unfolded, and the pranks were done very well, and the conclusion was satisfying, a little unconventional, but satisfying.

Rating: A-
Review: I just LOVE this film. The music, the atmosphere, and the plot were awesome. However, one thing kept it from getting an A+, the acting. While some of the characters were good(Dr. Challis, Conal Cochran), other's not so(The Kupfers for instance). However, it didn't bring down the movie that much. An awesome film and I wish they had went with the anthology idea for every year.

It was better than the first. They actually explained in as less of a cliche way why the snakes grow that large. It was actually scary and entertaining.

Review: This movie is terrific to fellow Romero fans...even he called the movie "an absolute blast!" I seriously love this movie and founf it to be more based on Night of the Living Dead & Day of the Dead moments than Dawn of the Dead. I believe any fan of the living dead should see this...it's just fun :D
DVD:
FRIDAY THE 13TH: PART VI
Starring: CJ Graham (as Jason)
Would I recommend it: sure, y not

Review: This movie does have its moments. I saw it for the first time earlier in the week and I liked it a lot. I actually like Graham's portrayal of Jason and the guy who plays Jarvis (Thom Mathews, who's also the lead guy in Return of the Living Dead) is kinda cute...LOL :o

Review: If you love Kill Bill or revenge flicks, you should definitely enjoy this film. I for one love it and I'm glad to see great films like this finally making their way onto dvd. This movie has a great story and Kaji Meiko is simply amazing playing the role of Yuki and the supporting cast is just as great.

Title: Resident Evil 2: Apocalypse
Starring: Milla Jovovich, Sienna Guillory, Sophie Vavasseur
Would you recommend it: (To fan-boys) Yes (To the general movie-going public) Only if you have the time
Grade: C+
Review: While this movie moves out of the confined space of the Hive, to Racoon City, it doesn't really utilise all this new space well. The new director, Alexander Witt, has a difficult style. At times he chooses difficult camera angles, and crappy camera effects or moving cameras which make it difficult to see what is happening.
RE:A doesn't really move the franchise along alot, using old features from the last film (infected dogs, lickers), but does introduce us the Nemesis. If the Nemesis looks good is up to personal opinion.
This movie was OK, but there are far better zombie movies out there.

Review: It was good, a bit slow at times, but quite funny. The two best parts is when the Zombie is in the backyard and the ending - to funny.
On DVD:
Title: Mona Lisa Smile
Starring: Julia Roberts
Would I recommend it: eh, its a real chick flick, probably not
Grade: d
Review: I really can't stand Kirsten Dunst now so she kinda ruined it, but I found the ending dumb.

Breif Storyline- 2 men wake up in a room both men are at seperate ends of the room & have one of the ankles chained to a pipe & in between them is a dead body. Both men try to figure out how they got here & they soon find out they are part of this sick game by a killer dubbed by the police as Jigsaw.
Review- Didn't know what to expect as i didn't know much about the storyline to this movie. However in saying that i did enjoy the movie.A couple of the killings are graphic but that didn't spoil it for me.They say if you liked Seven then you will like this movie.I prefered this movie to Seven as i thought it had a better storyline.Danny Glover role as the detective is ok also.Personally i would say it's a pretty clever movie.

Review: Another great samurai movie and this story takes six films to tell. If anyone has seen the film Shogun Assassin, all it is, is just scenes cut and put together from the LW&C series. IMO it was OK. Nothing really special, was a bit over hyped. If you want to go, then come here and claim it was wicked, 'cause it was slightly weird -- then you will love it.
Otherwise, you will just see that it's an OK movie, kinda clever though.

Wow I was totally shocked how good this is. First of all, the dvd cover/s were great looking and the case was light and clear. Just this will draw you into buy this. Once I got it home and put it in and watched it. The sound quality and picture quality was perfect from and company I never heard of (the name is "first look"). The sound and picture makes you feel like you are their. The special featuures are also well done. The stories are great. Title: Female Prisoner #701: Scorpion
Starring: Kaji Meiko
Would I recommend it: Yes if you're into these type of films. No if you're not.
Grade: B
Review: Not a bad Japanese revenge flick but nothing too special. The film stars the great Kaji Meiko, always a plus if she's in it. The fight scenes were poorly done, lots of gingerly kicks and pokes. It was real clear in some scenes where there was no contact but blood starts gushing out everywhere. Oh yea, there's a fair amount of blood in this film... and lots of female nudity. Overall, great acting but poor directing of action/fight scenes.

Review: People were saying how this movie was overrated and doesn't deserve the praise it gets. Well I say this and thought it was just great. This was Pixar's first shot at a animated movie with humans they hit it with a bullseye. The story was good, the animation was superb like always and the voice acting was top notch. Title: Very Bad Things
Year of Release: 1998
Starring: Jon Favreau, Cameron Diaz
Writer/Director: Peter Berg (Cop Land, Collateral)
Genre: Dark Comedy
Rating: 8/10
Setup: A man (Jon Favreau) and 4 of his buddies go out to Las Vegas for his bachelor's party. They spend the night partying up with drugs and alcohol. A hooker shows up, and after a little while she winds up dead. What will they do?
Review: A grisly dark comedy which has some great support from actors/actresses like Cameron Diaz, Christian Slater, Daniel Stern. If your into a movie with some poetic justice and humorous twist then this is the movie for you. Christian Slater does great as the genius psycho, you'll see it as the movie progresses. It is ironic how one lie can turn into a whole web of deceit. Tantalizing morbid, with some gore added for effect. The ending just makes you feel like you would have done things much different than the characters had.
One of the most underrated movies I have seen in a long time. I would rank it in my Top 3 Most Underrated Movies, along with Fear and Loathing in and Las Vegas and Chasing Amy .

And oddly enough, it got its start in the preproduction stages of Beverly Hills Cop, when Sly was signed on to play the lead, and was working a lot on the script. It was gonna be an action extravaganza, but the studio couldn't afford it. Then when Eddie signed on, the whole thing went in a different (read as "better") direction, and Sly's ideas all went into Cobra. Now that's some weird shit.

It is extremely dark...utterly unpleasant...unnerving...disturbing...sickening... brilliant. I recommend it highly, but be prepared if you do decide to give it a watch...it will stay with you for a while. I had to take a shower when I finished watching it.

How could a movie that fucked up be considered a comedy?
A dad who rapes his son and... I don't know, just the way they described it was twisted.

Actually, he doesn't rape his son. He rapes his son's friends. And it's actually considered a VERY dark comedy. And it does have its funny moments, I have to admit. But seriously, it's the kind of funny that makes you feel dirty for laughing.

Review: it has it's good moments but a bit flat on a story line, not only is it an old story line but so not original, the music score is awesome though, and revitalized there careers

Movie: Blade Trinity
Starring: Wesley Snipes, Jessica Biel, Ryan Reynolds
Review: I just saw Blade Trinity. I loved it. I have liked the other two movies and this one was a great way to end the trilogy. I had heard all these rumors about the ending (if Blade dies or lives) and thought the ending was the right thing to do. Action was great, but for some reason Dracula wasn't that good of a villain as I thought he could be. He doesn't look like what nightmare posted in his beast form, and the final battle didn't live up to what the movie hyped it to be (Frost could wipe "Drake" anyday of the week). Funniest movie of the 3, Ryan Reynolds took the cake, also Snipes threw in a couple laughs. Jessica Biel was pretty damn good also, and in more ways then one But all in all I enjoyed this movie, once again great way to end the series. (Copied from another thread)

Movie: Starship Troopers 2: Hero of the Federation
Starring: Bill Brown, Richard Burgi and Kelly Carlson
Review: Before seeing this sequel to the film Starship Troopers, I wasn't expecting alot. The fact that it went straight to video lowered my expectations a bit more, but for some reason I wanted to see it. The fact that my expectations were quite low, may have made me enjoy the film that bit more. To start off, the film isn't as action packed or comedy driven like the first film, it goes for more horror and suspense. The two bookends of the movie, with the federation, "Would you like to know more?" style of the first film felt a bit out of place, seeing as though this film took a completely different style. Basically, the bugs are back, but these are bugs not as you know it. I was also surprised at the good visuals in this film, especially as though this didn't even go to the cinema. I was also starting to wonder why this film was rated an 18 in the UK at the start, but soon realised why when the faster paced last half hour of this film kicks in. You get plenty on blood for your money -- Look out for the severed bug infested head getting thrown into the microwave!
In a Nutshell: To put this film simply, it takes place after the first film, where the brain bug has been captured. This film focuses on another part of the war, where humans aren't doing so well. When a group of troopers get the negative to be picked up to go home, they run to a nearby outpost. The bugs are waiting outside, and as people gather inside, they realise that the bugs outside aren't really the problem -- they are already inside.
Grade: Solid C. Quite good, considering.

Does the sequel have the same political undertones as the first one? I mean, does it portray the humans as fascists? Does it mirror, in many ways, WWII from the nazi perspective? Does it imply that war makes fascists of everyone? I'm curious, because I may want to see it, but only if it has that same political subtext.

I haven't seen the movie yet so I don't know but if there was a subtext I don't think he got it

The Nightstalkers (Reynolds, Biel) will star in a spin-off whenever they can get it off the ground. On the DVD there will be alternate ending where the two face a warewolf at a bar, leading into a spin-off.

Not too familiar with that comic, but the Nightstalkers in this movie are a rag-tag group of vampire hunters with different members scattered around the globe.

The start and the end of the movie (the bookends) were in the same style as the original, the ending especially. But as though the rest of the movie wasn't in this style, it seemed very out of place. Like at the end, one soldier was named "Hero of the Federation", and they were using this in an induction to get people to sign up for mobile infantry. Also, a character who has a baby at the end has her baby told, to hurry up and grow up -- fresh meat for the grinder. Nice.
Overall though, the majority of the film isn't, but I say watch it 'cause you may know more what you are lookin' for. It does do some things very clever though, 'cause the film is about the mind controlling bugs featured in the first film. You know who these 'infected people are, yet you still care for some of them -- well I did.
Overall, I liked it. I would say as much as the original, but not quite.
Would you like to know more?

** SPOILERS of Starship Troopers 2, if you care **
I kind of forgot, I guess there could be political undertones in this film if you look into it.
When the story moves to the soldiers settling into the abandoned outpost, they find someone lock in a room called Dax. They find out he was imprisoned for killing his commander in charge, and that people who kill a leader will be executed it seems without a trial. "Murderers don't go home" as Dax says at the end of the film.
There is also a line near the start of the film, where one solider say to another, "Look after Billie, if he doesn't fight, shoot him". Kind of a fight or die attitude, that was evident in the first film as well.
What I'm saying is there could be political undertones throughout this film, just not as in your face obvious as in the first film.

I see...seems like they kind of tried for the same thing, but probably didn't pull it off in the way that Verhoeven and Neumeier did with the first one. Because the first one, like the first RoboCop, was very satirical and had a lot of subtext to it, which is why I liked it so much. I would watch it with people who were fans of the usual big dumb sci-fi/action movies and try to explain it to them. "No, no...you don't get it...the humans aren't heroes...look at them, for fucksake...they're nazis...you only identitfy with them because the bugs don't look like you." Etc., etc., etc. I don't think they got it. LOL

It is more obvious that the troopers were being brain washed in the first film. It made it kind of better, seeing it from an outside POV. You see people accepting their fate as a trooper, but just want to become a citizen (they are fighting to become citizens right?) just like Hitler's perfect race, his Volksgemeinshaft.
Now, don't get me wrong, I only know the basics on the Nazis, and I'm just speaking from my college education, but I certainly see your point.

The Federation (in the first movie, at least) was directly modeled after the Third Reich. Verhoeven was a child in the Netherlands during the Nazi occupation and had vivid memories of the war. He chose the Third Reich as his model for a future fascist society in his film, the central message of which is, as he put it, "that war makes fascists of us all." This is subtlely intimated throughout the entire film (perhaps too subtlely, as most people failed to grasp it), and really pushed to the forefront in certain scenes. For example, when Carl returns, he is decked out in a uniform directly inspired by the uniforms worn by the SS in Nazi Germany, complete with black cap and trenchcoat. How people missed that is beyond me, frankly...but if watched from a politically attuned frame of mind, the film is a wonderful piece of satire and political commentary.

Movie: Home Alone 4
Starring: Mike Weinberg, French Stewart, Missi Pyle and Joanna Going.
Review: Let me just start by saying, this film is really crap, and I mean REALLY crap. Words cannot describe how I felt while watching this. I know it was a kids film, but the acting was bad, the story was ludicrous and we are supposed to believe that these are returning characters from films over 10 years ago, that haven't aged in the slightest. "Kevin" is still 9 years old, and sets up about 2 traps in this film, the rest he relys on the hi-tech house for. Overall, don't even watch if you get tempted, like I was. This film made me even like Home Alone 3, which I hated when I first watched.
In a Nutshell: Kevin moves to his Dad's house for christmas which is all hi-tech... blah blah blah ... Marv is back wanting to kidnap a Prince stopping at the house... blah blah blah ... Everyone lives happily ever after. Told you it was crap, didn't I?

Movie: Bad Santa
Cast: Billy Bob Thornton, Tony Cox, Brett Kelly , Lauren Graham
Review: This movie came out last year, and it finally got around to cable so I watched it on Comcast ONDemand. I have to say this is one of the funniest Christmas movies I have ever seen, absolutly halarious. Billy Bob Thornton is histerical as the drunken no-good Santa, and Brett Kelly who is "The Kid" is just awesome. But this is a Christmas movie through and through and so of course this goes through the motions of any other good Christmas movie and the ending will bring a smile to your face.

Movie: Elektra
Cast: Jennifer Garner, Goran Visnjic, Kirsten Prout, Will Yun Lee
Review: I came into this movie really hyped. I really liked Daredevil, and thought Jennifer Garner (Elektra) was great in it. So after seeing the kick ass Fantasic Four trailer I was getting really pumped. I already saw the first five minutes so I knew what was coming, the opening is pretty good. After those first five minutes the movie got from bad to worse. We are never told how Elektra was resurrected (she was killed in Daredevil), we see a man bring her back but we are never told why he brought her back and how he found her body.
The Hand are the suppose villains in this flick, trying to get a little girl that will tide their war with the "good guys". The action wasn't too bad, but the end fight with Yun Lee is pretty lame. What is up with him running super fast as if he is the Flash? And then when all the bad guys die they explode into green gas....now seriously.....come on. I was wishing for a cameo of Affleck (Daredevil) or at least reference but to no prevail we get nothing. I was really let down by this film, other then Garner's performance as Elektra and her in that nice red piece, this movie was really not that good.

Movie: Flight of the Phionix
Starring: Dennis Quaid, and a bunch of people who youv never heard of.
Review: Starts off kind of slow. An oil rig in asia is being shut down so everyone that worked on it is being flew home by a cargo plane 9pioleted by dennis quiad) Along for the ride is a engineer ( an uptight little prick) who needs a ride home. The plane crashes in the desert during a sandstorm. They only have enough supplies to last 30 days. They are in the middle of the gobe dessert 300 miles from anything. The engineer (who designs planes) has an idea. They are going to build a new airplane from the wreckage of the old one. A small band of chinese nomads are camped out near them. They raid the nomad camp but one of them gets away. So they only have a small amount of time to finish the airplane before they run out of water, and the nomad comes back with reinforcements. Good story line, good acting, and a twist about 3/4 of the way through that youl never see coming. Definatly worth seeing.
