There are more out there than I realize(most of which only got cancelled after a VERY small amount of episodes), but right now I could only think of 4. So, if you can think of a better one that I didn't name in the poll, by all means please tell about it.
It's tough for me, because the 4 series I listed are 4 of my all-time favorite TV series, but since I am the biggest fan of the franchise IN THE WORLD, my vote goes to Highlander: The Series

Of course it has to be Buffy. The movie was a flop but the tv show came back and rocked for 7 seasons.:)

Buffy is the best TV show based on a movie. Not too many TV shows based on movies fared too well, but Buffy lasted for almost seven full seasons and had an enormous amount of popularity because the show was great.

I vote Buffy all the way. It took a cult classic movie and made it into a successful TV show. Also, Buffy's character development was amazing. As well as the support group of the Scoobies.

You know I never saw the Buffy movie..I mean if I wnated to see Luke Perry I'd watch 90210. The tv show never seemd to interest me nor did Angel. So I guess I don't see the big hoopla surrounding it.

I loooooooooooved the Buffy movie. I remember back in the day when it would come on HBO every day. I could recite the entire movie!
I was so excited when they made the TV show....until I watched it. I dont care much for angsty teen drama, even when its disguised by the occult.
There are a few episodes I enjoyed but for the most part I didnt understand why people liked it so much. It wasnt a bad show but I certainly didnt think it was anywehere near as good as people thought it was.
btw you forgot these movie tv shows : friday the 13th, traffic, my big fat greek life, a league of their own, weird science, and problem child.

And with good reason :p
And Friday The 13th: The Series was NOT based on the films of the same title. The series had absolutely NOTHING to do with the films.

I don't care that Friday the 13th: The Series isn't based on the movies. I just thought it was cool. I was talking about it at work tonight. Cursed antiques is so cool.

Buffy takes the cake. 7 seasons is alot for the channels like NBC, ABC, CBS, WB, and Fox.

No, it wasn't.
It was a spin-off from a skectch on Love American Style.
You might be thinking of American Graffiti as the movie Happy Days was based off of.
Ron Howard and Cindy Williams were in that, and later they were on Happy Days, but playing different people.

Not only is Buffy the greatest TV show based on a movie, but I will go as far as saying it is the greatest TV show of all time.
I know I will get alot of people telling me that I am a crazy jackass, but hey its cool.

Buffy is a cult phenomonon, so to many people it IS the greatest show of all time.
But since I'm not really a fan, I just think its a classic show, not the best:)

I 2nd that. Angel should be included too.... Buffy by far was one of the best shows ever and had a successful spinoff... how many shows (besides Cheers and Fraiser) can say that?
Besides it is the most successful in this thread (MASH is but it isn't on the list)

Was there a Buffy spin-off with Giles that only came out in the UK? Or was that just a rumor?

I believe they were planning on doing that, it would be called "Ripper", but never did.

I voted "Other" for this very reason. I was a HUGE fan of the Weird Science television show. In fact, I liked it a lot more than the movie. I had a crush on Wyatt...lol. :D
By no means is this the "Best" television show based on a movie but it was to me. It was just fun and I remember getting psyched to see it every Saturday night (on either the former TNT or on TBS) right after SNICK (on Nickelodeon).
