View Full Version : Halloween Remakes and Sequels

In my opinion, if they want to make more sequels, that’s fine. I will neither condemn nor endorse another sequel (I know I'll see it no matter how bad it is). In regards to remakes, that is an absolutely ridiculous proposition. Instead of the remaking the original "Halloween." Why not give it a high profile re-release. Fix any sound problems that linger from the remastering that took place several years back. Then, re-release it one October and give it a large ad campaign. The film could pull in at least twenty to forty million more dollars. They re-released "The Exorcist" in 2000 in about 800 theatres and that worked marvelously. I think that film grossed another forty to fifty million dollars. "Halloween" is an audience movie. It benefits from the theatrical experience. One of the other strengths of "Halloween" is that when you watch it, it feels rather contemporary. It doesn't have the dated feeling that many movies suffer from. Why not take advantage of this strength and re-release it? Fans always talk about bringing the sequels back to the basics, well, what better way to bring things back to the basics than re-releasing "Halloween." The large fan base would go see it. Casual fans would go too (to revisit a classic!). And we could bring in a whole new generation to see it for the first time. We need to promote the original "Halloween" as much as possible. Not that the sequels are worthless, but Michael Myers should be remembered for his terrifying first outing, not the endless parade of sequels. I don't know if any executives involved with the "Halloween" series pays any attention to these boards, but they should. I think I have a good idea here. Incidentally, they were exploring re-release options several years ago. Does anyone know why that attempt fell through?

While the would undoubtably work, I personally dont see that happening. I dont know why, but its just a feeling.

I think its a great idea... Hell they could even throw in the scenes that are only added when they play the movie on TV and then say advertise the re-release as having new footage never before seen in theaters. Hell I'd go see it in the theater!

I think they should keep making em but hopefullly they will put more into it. It shouldn't be that complicted to make. I'm curious about a remake. i say go for it. More focus on Loomis part (even though it won't have DP).

If the movie is remade well, I'd have no real problem with it.
I'm afraid, however, that they'd just sling together a hack director and some teens of the moment.

I remember back in 98 there was talk of re-releasing Halloween around the same time as H20's release. For whatever reason it never happened.

Although I did see both Halloween and H20 back to back at the Drive In in 1998.

I agree with everything you said except for that statement^^. Halloween is dated and to me it's the look and feel of the film that was recorded in 78 that makes it a classic. These films nowdays are contemporary with the big bright colors and "pretty" people acting in them, most of which you can see on TV and other films around the same time which doesn't make the current movie your watching seem realistic. Having the grittyness and semi "dull" color of the film like recorded back in the 70's and 80's is much better to me.

I completely agree with that! Which is probably why I love the first 3 Halloweens so much.

especially with the restored version of Halloween, it seems as if the movie could have been made last year, but whoa blast from the past theyre wearing 70's close.

I love 70's horror for that reason.:)

But they could keep making sequels till the cows come home, I'll go and see them. But a remake...no way.

Why remake Halloween when sequels are still being made? It'd be stupid.

Agreed. I wouldn't mind seeing it remade. I've always been obsessed with the idea of LeeLee Sobieski playing Laurie. I don't know why.

i wasn't a big kane hodder as jason fan either. having a beard under the masks or all that make up has to suck.

the shouldnt remake them with new characters. i def wouldnt like that. i think that would kinda ruin the halloween series. i just think they should restore the original ones then re release them is thearters. not remake the entire movie.

remakes are a stupid idea. no one could replace DP ever. i also don't want to see them replace JLC or especially DH.

I would like to see a Michael like George Wilbur's in H6. If not, one like H1 or H2. The thin, yet brutal Myers.

Wouldn't it be stupid if Halloween was remade. Since there plans to still release sequels at this time.

yea but i imagine, one day when the series has ended and they want to get more money, they willl...it's almost the fate these days that great classics are remade to get that extra buck...it is a shame however

why can't they leave well enough alone

I'm just hoping they do leave HalloweeN alone! I don't care what they do to other movies just don't Remake HalloweeN! it's a classic and I don't think by remaking it will make it any better then it already is!!!!
