Which one do you love or like more. The original , unhappy campers, teenage wasteland or are you looking foreward to the future sequel? General Sleepaway talk can be discussed here.

I love all three films but if I had to choose a favorite, it'd have to be the original. The whole look/feel of the movie and the crazy ending is what makes this one my favorite.

im gonna go back and edit to say "that is a repeat thread over there!!" hehe. i never look at the dates, i was looking more at the replies.

so with that said, let me copy and paste my response here in the real thread, not the impostor thread.

i like part 2 best, totally.

id never seen any of ther series until a few months ago, but i really like part 2, Teenage Wasteland is my second favorite.

this is one series to me that both of the sequels outdone the original movie, i like the way the sequels have more outlandish death scenes and dont take themselves so seriously.

long live Angela!!!

The Region 2 boxset is only £15.99 on Play.com so I might actually get it soon.

From all the good responses I have heard from this board, it sounds like it is worth checking out.

2 is my favorite. I loved Angela's casually twisted demeanor, the deaths were great(I loved the throwbacks to Leatherface, Jason, and Freddy), and Ally's sex scene has alot of repeat value.:)
I loved the first too, it has one of the best endings ever. I knew what it was before seeing the movie and I was still shocked when I saw it. The atomsphere and tone actually were fairly eerie.
I thought 3 was sub par in comparison to the first 2. It just felt like a going through the motions sequel. There was nothing all too special about the characters, the dialogue or the deaths(the deleted gore footage on the dvd is pretty good though).

part 2 - Although looking back on it now its so damn cheesy it's def the best. I am def looking forward to Return to Sleepaway camp. and perhaps my choice will be different after I see it.

There is footage from the 4th film called Sleepaway Camp: Survivor that was never completed, it comes with the boxed set(atleast it did when they first started selling the boxed set).

They recently completed production on Return to Sleepaway Camp with Felissa Rose returning as Angela, and it comes out next year.

Actually i dont think Felissa is returning as angela. She's just in a cameo sort of role or is just working behind the scenes.

The first Sleepaway Camp is pretty much the absoloute epitome of "so-bad-it's-actually-brilliant" cinema. Everything is taken so over the top that you gotta love it. And Angela is actually a really sympathetic character; you find yourself anxious to see what happens to her. And when that ending comes... HOLY CRAP. The sequels weren't horrible, but they don't hold a candle to the original.

I had never seen any of these movie's till I saw part 2 the other night. And I have to say, it was shit hahaha! It was alright for a comedy, but no horror value at all. Hahaha! It was funny.

And of course, she was...lol

yeah parts 2 and 3 are PRETTY bad lmao. BUT its good to see robert hiltzik( director of the 1st) to be directing the 5th and it seems the story will kind of follow the same story line which is good!

Technically it would be Sleepaway Camp 4, since the original part 4 was never finished. And judging from the footage released in the box set, it would have sucked insane ammounts of ass anyway. I'm talking porn-worthy acting skills.

And yes, according to www.sleepawaycampmovies.com it's near finished. However, no credible movie sites have so much as mentioned it and I've yet to hear of a release date.

Exactly, i sat and watched that footage and was so bored and tired of it. Why even include it i say. As for Return to Sleepaway Camp it does look okay from the pics the've got up and the plot but i want to know why it looks way under budget? Why wouldnt that have at least the budget as the previous sequels.

Like I said, none of the major film sites seem to want to list it as "Upcoming", which is why I question the status of the project, budget and distribution-wise.

The first three "Sleepaway" movies weren't exactly well known in the first place, now they're making a sequel almost 20 years later. Not to mention none of the cast went on to anything spectacular.

It DOES look very low-budget. Rumors are flying around about crew and miscellaneous workers who have yet to be paid for their services months after shooting has completed, and from what I can tell, the entire production (headed by the director of the original, and including a supposedly not-so-trustworthy webmaster of sleepawaycampmovies.com) was done very unprofessionally.

But CKY and Isaac Hayes make appearances...who knows...

boogeyman87
11-30-2004, 05:06 PM
I know. Just by looking at these http://www.angelfire.com/retro/officialsleepaway2/rtsc1stills.html It just looks horrible underbudget. Like it was shot in someones backyard with barrio kids palying the roles. But your right, it is a sequal to a virtually un-noticed film. What should we expect?

I can't wait for the latest Sleepaway film..."Sleepaway Camp: Kids Can Be So Mean" because I adore the series! It is just so campy and Angela is unique with her way cheesy one-liners! Sleepaway Camp 2 is probably my most favorite with all its references to 80's films and Pamela Springstein really defined the "new" Angela! :D

However, the original never fails to make my jaw drop...it is just so unexpected that it slaps you in the face! The box-set is well worth the price at Best Buy. Anyone here manage to get the red cross version? I managed to grab one of the last two...thank God because the new box is not nearly as good.

I agree the footage from Sleepaway Camp 4: The Survivor is nothing that special but neat to watch at least once, then it's sort of a throw-away.

Personally, I'd love to see Aunt Martha come back one more time...she freaked the crap out of me!

Damn, I wish we had the horor channel over here. Not sure when and if it was supposed to come. But yeah, here(U.S.) it was very cheap considering how much it could be. OMG, in Sleepaway Camp 2...I loved when Angela barbequed the "Shit sisters" and then the line about "don't do drugs" right after. I mean it was so bad, it was absolutely hilarious! In fact most of the kills in 2 are great. I don't exactly love the 3rd installment, but the lawn-mower kill is pretty funny as well...especially since it is sped up in the movie...LOL :D

I got a question: How long you been running the website?

do you get insider information about sc5?

Yeah, but it's mostly negative, and fans tend to want positive news even if it's bullshit, so I keep things on the lowdown. Though, some kentucky moonshine can pry it from my lips most easily.

I got a question: How long you been running the website?

Well, I started it in 1998, brought on a partner, in 2001 I left the partnership and simply made a different URL for the site, and this resulted in two official websites with similar URLs.

what made you liek this movie series?

Dusk

Right movie right time. Could've been anything I guess, but at the time (80's) I was young and disillusioned with the directions of my favorite genre series . So subconciously, I wanted a refreshing alternative and found it. The site was a by-product of SC fans having to discuss it on a F13 board and being heckled.

I'll try to get a basic SC5 page up soon. I've just got my hands full puting the finishing touches on CAMP NEW HORIZONS (SC3) replica sweatshirts.

id never seen these flicks till about 5 months ago, i bought the Survival Kit blind.

i really liked the first movie, it kept me wondering because these deaths were happening and i thought it was Angela doing them but i wondered how a little girl could do that.
needless to say i was freaked out by the ending of the movie, wow!

later after work that same day i watched parts 2 and 3.

part 2 is my favorite, i really like the direction they took with the series and it has some really good ways of killing in it. with most of the campers you just knew they were gonna die, but wondering how was half the fun. Bringing Angela back as a couselor was a really good move. that kept me wanting more!

part 3 is a really solid installment also, almost my favorite. the deaths are more thought out and complex. my favorite being the snort of death for the reporter. man thats fucking awesome!! the bitch shouldve done the "taste test" before snorting that shit.

ill camp until i die....

Holy shit why haven't I found this thread earlier.

Ok, well over the past few weeks I've had the delight of seeing Sleepaway Camp 2: Unhappy Campers, and Sleepaway Camp 3: Teenage Wasteland. I must say that these are my kind of slasher flicks. I loved the original Sleepaway Camp for is creepiness, but you gotta love these two for the gore and humor. Well, honestly I must say that during the a couple scenes in the 2nd, I was creeped out, but only by the absolute insanity of Angela Baker, portayed by Pamela Springsteen in both films. She does a HELL of a job and really I think shes cooler than Freddy and Jason just because I mean the kills are the most imaginative kill ideas i've seen in a while, and it's just cause the omega cheesy and campy texture to it. Totally classic flicks, both four stars for there watchability. The original, also classic. I haven't seen the beginning or whatever the remainder is of the fourth film, but I'm hopeful for Return of Sleepaway Camp. Hopefully it'll have the same humor and imagination of the 2nd and 3rd.

Yes, they are true underrated classics. I'm also in agreeance that Pamela Springsteen portrayed Angela so so well. I dont know if she was written all that way or if it was just Pam's charisma but the performance was great.

The kills were the best, along with the 80's feel. Lawnmowing decapatations, cocaine switcharoo, battery acid, drill.....I love creativity.

Yeah definitely, I agree that Angela is an underrated horror icon. Her kills are some of the best. The character (I won't say who) that got plunged in the outhouse...that makes me cringe every time, YUCK!:p I love all of them but the second one wins by a landslide for me.

I would have liked to have seen the fourth SC film completed as well, but there wasn't enough footage, or sound for that matter, to really see what it would have turned out like. I am sure it would have been fun like the others but the new Angela didn't look the greatest. I liked that homely look of Pamela Springstein...she was great. I am really looking forward to Return to Sleepaway Camp, as I miss the cornball cheesiness and unique kills. Hopefully the new installment will offer what the older ones did and I am sure it will.

ooookay.

I bought the box set and watch3ed all the movies.

Sleepaway Camp was pretty good. It was a little weird when there wasn't a kill going on because it seemed like a disney movie. The score was very Disney esque I felt. It was like The Parent Trap meets Friday The 13th. Pretty good nonetheless. It takes a few veiwings to get the jist of what all happens. ** and 1/2 stars.

Sleepaway Camp II: Unhappy Campers was different. More like your typical 80's slasher. I thought the age of the campers kind of ruined it. The first one had a more realistic camp, this camp just didn't make sense. What 16 and 17 year olds go to summer camp? The fact that Angela was the same age as the campers also kind of threw things out of proportion. Sometimes I liked the actress playing Angela but sometimes I wish she was more like the original. ** stars.

Sleepaway Camp III: Teenage Wasteland was even more of a typical slasher film. I really felt this one was a little pointless. We get no backstory to what Angela did for a year, she just up and comes back. How did she know who the girl she killed in the beginning was or any of that. The kills were a lot less imaginative in this one and the schtick was a little stale once she killed the first group. The endind was pretty good but I kind of wished they would have just let her die because the ambulance scenes just sucked.* and a half stars

I know 2 and 3 were supposed to be funny and they definatley worked but the Angela charecter only worked half the time for me in the 2nd and was just plain boring by the 3rd.

Now as for Sleepaway Camp IV: The Survivor, what in the hell were they thinking? What doesn't make sense to me is that the trailer makes so much sense of out of scenes of a girl running through the woods for a half hour. This was pointless. I know it was unfinished but they didn't seem to be going anywhere with this to begin with so maybe it's a good thing. No stars.

I'll probably watch the 5th one when it comes out. Supposedly it ignores parts 2-4, which I may like. It is supposed to have Angela but only in a minor role, which sucks because I'd really like to know what happened to this girl fromt he first one. I wouldn't really care to know what happened to the Angela from 2 and 3.

Unimaginative kills? I was thinking "wow I've never seen that shit before!" when watching Tawny Richards snort the cleaning chemicals(notice my avatar) along with Lilly Miranda's lawnmower scene. I've always been creeped out by that death, I've had dreams of that stuff.

I hope you werent disspleased with Pamela Springsteen? To me she brought so much to the film with her comedy and her overall general personality portrayel of Angela.

I watched SC3 in two parts so the coke kill slipped my mind when posting, I guess it was pretty imaginitive but both deaths aren't very well executed.

I thought Pam was good in part two but by the third the charecter just became too rediculous and nonsensical. I would have preffered the more derranged Angela from the original to the one we get in SC3.

SC3 in general just seems like they were running on empty and burned out. I hear they shot it back to back with SC2. Even the set of SC3 seems like half the crew quit because of exahstion. (ex. the desolate camp).

I dunno, I guess I just didn't really like part 3 or 4.

I 100% agree with you Chris ;)
I found the kills to be so unique in comparison to all other horror films I have seen and Pam Springstein brought the character to life. True, the third is not my most favorite, but those kills...they blew me away and brought something new to the table. I find myself watching that particular installment just for some of the kills and Angela's cheesy one-liners. I feel it is a worthy 80's slasher in comparison to other films we got in that decade.

the 2 sequels outbeat the original by millions upon millions of leaps.

The original was really shitty if you ask me.

The campiness and cheesy humor thrown into the following 2, and Pam Springsteen make them so much better.

Love the original,a nd the weird feel it has, especially the ending, the face that Felissa Rose makes and the face on the masked guy from afar are right up there with Captain Howdy's face from the Exorcist and Michael Myers' mask as the scariest faces in horror. That was just a creep out scene, which I love. The rest of the movie doesn't get the love it deserves though, soem really weird flashbacks.

Parts 2 and 3 are good campy horror fun, nothing liek the original besides the setting though. I thought Pamela Springsteen was good in her role, she seemed to be having fun.

Haven't seen 4 yet (I haven't seen it around), but have looked for it.

Parts 2 and 3 are good campy horror fun, nothing liek the original besides the setting though. I thought Pamela Springsteen was good in her role, she seemed to be having fun.

Haven't seen 4 yet (I haven't seen it around), but have looked for it.

Your not going to find a part 4, anywhere. Its only a small amount of footage that was shot for the film, footage that is on a special disc that accompanies the Survival Kit boxset.

Don't bother. It's just crappy footage of soem girl running around the woods. Nothing else. Pretty dumb to even put it in the boxset. It's just a waste of time.

I think it fell throug hand never finished or something. But now they are doing "Return to Sleepaway Camp" and it's written and directed by Robert Hiltzik, the guy who wrote and directed the original and as of now it's slated for a 2006 release.

Well the fourth disc entitled "The Survivor" in the Survival Kit box-set has nothing to do with the fourth full movie entitled "Return to Sleepaway Camp." "The Survivor" was an abandoned project...and I agree it didn't look all that great...especially since there weren't any returning characters like Pamela Springsteen or Felissa Rose. The actualy "Return to Sleepaway Camp" will have many returning from the original cast, so I am excited that it might have the same feel as the original Sleepaway.

I finally watched them all yesterday and I was pleasantly surprised. They were fun, cheesy '80's movies. I don't regret buying the set at all and I am really looking forward to "Return To Sleepaway Camp". I couldn't even watch all of the bonus fourth disc, I watched the trailer and that was bad enough, SCIV looked absolutely terrible and I'm glad it was abandoned. You can read my "reviews" of them in the "Grade The Last Movie You Watched" Thread. Part One was easily the best though.

I **LOVE** "Sleepaway Camp 2: Unhappy Campers". I watched it about a million times the summer of 2004. I was obsessed with it, along with "House on Soroity Row". Angela, in that installment, is one of my favorite movie charectors ever. She's so cool and funny. Pamela Springsteens bad acting is very charming. I thought the first SAC was okay. The acting was really bad, though, and not in a really good way. And I already knew the suprise ending before I saw it. I was so INCREDIBLY dissapointed by "Teenage Wasteland". I was depressed for a whole two days after watching it. It seemed much more darker than prt.2, and Angela just wasn't the same. She seemed... depressed. Her new hairdo was awesome, though. I only watched it a second time to listen to the commentary. I did have the boxed set, but unfortuantely I sold it on ebay. It was one of the greatest DVD's/DVD boxed sets I've ever gotten.

If you liked the box set so much, why did you sell it if you don't mind me asking?

I was fairly disappointed with Teenage Wasteland myself. It didn't really compare to the first two.

I think it was because I wanted to have more money to spend on my doll collection. I thought I had seen 'em enough times, and would probably get tired of watching them anyways. I haven't watched any of them since I sold the set last September.

I know that in the new one they have Felissa coming back. But I kind of think that Pamela really is "Angela". Ya Know? Oh well in this new one you are going to have her and the CKY dudes in the movie. I guess since Felissa married the singer of that band they all have to be a part of it. I don't think it's going to be very good.

I assume my information is correct. I could be wrong. Anyone know if that is even going to get a release?

Oh? Is that the case? She married the singer? Didn't know that.... would explain things I guess. I thought they just got CKY for publicity.

Even with that said, I don't have any expectations for the new one. I never was keen on Felissa Rose as Angela and always considered Pam Springsteen the true and better one. The first Sleepaway Camp isn't even too good.

Last night I popped in the 1st Sleepaway Camp and within the first 15 minutes I was whisked back into time, to the late 80's with USA's Up All Night with Rhonda Shear.:)

This is grade A 80's cheese/camp slasher with some disturbing kills, I love it! Just to be sure, did the curling iron go where I think it did? Messed up!

For all of you who've seen it, did the ending get you? Got me, I had to check the box to make sure I didn't have The Crying Game in. I knew who the killer was, but I didn't know THAT! Awesome! I loved the guy who played Mel, overacting at it's finest and the guy who played the head of ricky's cabin or dorm, he was good too. Great kills, no doubt!;)

Last night I watched Sleepaway Camp II for the first time and it seems to have a different tone than the 1st one, but still enjoyable. It will never win any awards, but you know that going in to the film, they are what they are, camplicious fun. I guess that the producers decided to bump up the nudity meter on this one, holy cow, can we say gratuitous!

I loved TC's mullet, that was a classic, infact that was the most mullets I've seen in a while. I can't believe I haven't watched these before, but I'm kinda glad I didn't cause it's fun watching a good camp movie that I haven't seen, they don't make them like that anymore!

I loved the Freddy, Jason, Leatherface scene! That was classic. Probably don't need tags cause I'm the only person who hasn't seen them and they're 20 years old, but oh well. The kills in the beginning weren't as spectactular as the 1st film, but by the end they kicked it up several notches, some disturbing kills, with out a doubt! Recommended:)

Good Night Happy Campers!;)

I think parts 2+3 have more "dark humour" than the original film which was a "straight down the line" slasher flick. I do think pamela Springsteen did a grand Job in the role as Angela.

I agree, but I don't think she has ever done anything else worth mentioning.

Watched Sleepaway Camp III last night. The triliogy is over and my time at camp has ended.

I enjoyed it. I love how Angela just kills and looks like she's having fun. Disturbing I tell ya. The firecracker and lawnmower scenes will stay with me for awhile, good stuff! The story was a little weaker in the 3rd one I thought, but you're not watching this kind of movie for a story, see Ben-hur if your looking for substance. Again great effects, memorable kills, and gratuitous nudity, what more do you need? B-

Yeah, after seeing all of your reviews and figuring that these sound like my kind of movies, I bought the Survival Kit at Best Buy. So far I'm through the first two movies, and I've really enjoyed them. The ending of the original was pretty fucked up, but it was cool.

I've only seen the first movie, and I have to say I'm not a fan. I decided to take a chance and pick this up on day against my better judgment. I don't know what it is about the movie, but I really didn't enjoy it.

I just got done with Teenage Wasteland. I like it better than Unhappy Campers, but all of these movies are good. I'll defenitly be looking forward to the new one when it comes out.

I love the first sleepway camp better than all of the others. This movie was way cool with the kick ass death scense. The ending was very bizzare, and creepy. The other squels were cool but not freaky or anything. I have the box set, and very happy with it.

Good luck, it's been in development hell for the past 3 or 4 years and no one knows when its being released, even though it's supposedly "finished"...last we heard the CGI special effects were being touched up...great...

Its finally looking like thw long awaited installment in the sleepaway camp series will be with us soon... I believe one of the main problems with its release was that many of the actors did not receive payments they were promised !!

Nice, I created another Sleepaway Camp this past weekend. My Ex-G/f came to town to visit from Green Bay, and we were going to watch movies, and I had her look at my DVD collection to pick one out. She for some reason picked Sleepaway Camp because she never heard of it, and to my shock, she loved it. She even wanted to watch the second one(And someday wants to watch the third.). lol, if only more people could see these movies. A long time ago, I noticed that they aren't even at the video stores around here. Strange.

Good stuff, Lonnie_Elamb. That reminds me of one of my friends that does not enjoy horror movies and after watching the first one he ended up actually liking it. He insisted on viewing the second one and so we did. That also happened to some of my other friends, I guess the series really grabs people's attention and to this day they still reference this movie because they have a cat that everyone thought was a girl, but it was actually a boy and everybody calls the cat Angela. LOL! :p

I prefer Pamela Springsteen as Angela but it will still be cool to check out another sequel.

I love the part where she sang the Happy Camper song.
