Hey Halloween Fam. I was wondering if a Last Summer thread could be created (the I Know What You Did Last Summer films). I loved both the films and think the original was even better than Scream. It relied more on the suspense and wasn't just all about the gore, not to mention a killer soundtrack. It also brought us the infamous chase scene with Helen (who was my fav character by the way). Im prepared for the back lash already, lol so feel free. I Still Know was an "ok" sequel but had smart deaths and was just osrt of a fun movie to watch. I've been wondering for the longest time if they are going to make a part 3. I don't see why not.....The Original made over $125 million worldwide while the sequel made over 84 million worldwide. Really good espcially for Horror Standrads. What do you guys think?

Uurgh! What nasty films. Though my taste is limited, i don't think that many here like these films. Cheap Scream-copies! And i have to tell you, Scream isn't good movies to make a copy of, because they suck!

I liked them both. I prefer 2 to 1; more exposition on Ben that made him alot darker, I liked the isolated atmosphere, and I loved the ending.
I'd really like to see a 3rd film, but it gets less and less likely as time goes on.

I too liked the first better then the second. It was entertaining and brouhgt a new killer into the mix. I mean who would've thought someone in a rain slicker and hat would be scary? And with a hook no less.( well not to me, but it was different then someone in a mask stalking poeple)

I also liked the scream flicks. They were entertaining...and that's whata movie should be. :)

I think that these movies along with the Scream and Jeepers Creepers series were the only good recent new horror series from the late 90's until now.

I agree. I think they should make Scream but not too keen on the idea of Jeepers Creepers. They were just ok to me. I love Scream though!

I only caught the last 20 minutes or so, but it appears they didn't butcher it the way I thought they would. The thing that confused me thought is that they showed Julie finding Helen in the ice on the boat, but not Barry. Hell, it was probably for timing reasons anyway.

I liked both of these movies with the first one being my favorite. The second one was okay but it could have been better.

I must be in the minority and say that I think I liked the sequel a bit more to the original. The backstory to Ben was cool, with his son.

Even though I don't like Freddy Prinze Junior, the thing he did to make Ben stab his son by accident was kind of badass. Also, Brandy in the movie was a good move! ;)

They are talking about a third movie. I read an article about it here: Last Summer 3 (http://www.comingsoon.net/news.php?id=7589)
It might be cool to wrap up this average horror series.

I worship the ground the I KNOW SERIES walks on. That, along with SCREAM, were intergral in pulling me out of a brief diversion to a non-horror life in the late 90's - giving me a second golden age of theatrical horror I highly enjoyed.

Part one worked as both a slasher and a fable.

Part two was silly but delivered gore and wet tits.

Part three? Bring. It. On.

The first one was watchable. There was some sceens that the killer was walking slowly (as all killers do!;) ) and the girl was running and he still caught up to her! Classic moment!

The second one. The title is enough.

I still know?

If they make a third this would be the title.

No really, I still know want you did last summer......really! :D

I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be something along the lines of "I'll Always Know..." or "I'll Never Forget..."

I really think they should drop the "Last Summer" bit from the title, just for accuracy. I'd really like it if the title were just "I'll Never Forget What You Did". Hell, even "THAT Summer" would be better than "Last Summer"

"I'll Always Know What You Did That Summer" would be a really nice title. If a third one comes along i'd gladly see it. I say the second in the theater which was cool and i wouldnt pass the third up. As long as Love Hewitt is in it. They could even have SMG and Freddie Prinze Jr. do cameos or flashbacks.

Thx for the info Michael Myers. I found an article at Darkhorizons sayin that it has been offically greenlight and looks to star her and hopefully the returning cast. Does anyone know of a good I KNow What YOu Did Last Summer Forum or anythin? I think they should make a thread about it atleast, or a section here.

Yeah. Does anyone know of a good I Know Series Webiste by any chance? Like I said, I'm looking forward to the third one and even hope that kevin williamson would consider writing or co-writing it. He has a real smart way of contracting chase scene's , deaths, and just a story-line in general. For example, the most memorable scene from I Know What You Did Last Summer was Helens chase scene. If not the best, then one of the best chase scene's in horror history. In I Still Know, the highlight of that movie was the Julie, Karla, and Nancy chase scene. What do you guys think?

I remember watching both of these in the theatres and I really liked them both once upon a time. I bought the first one on VHS and watched it from time to time and then boom!...it would air on television left and right! I think that is what really killed it. There were about three stations that would constantly air the film and even though I didn't watch it that much on television, it somewhat killed it for me. Overall they are not bad films, but I need a long break away from them because they are overkilled on television. With some films, it just ruins it for me. I know H4 and H5 are constantly aired on AMC but that's different. I don't know, I am weird with these things. :D

I only hear Ryan's last name pronounced as Phil-li-pee. I have never heard it pronounced as just Phil-lip before. I mainly watch out for how it is pronounced before his face on television, or when his wife Reese Witherspoon gives an interview, and he never corrects anyone so Phil-li-pee should be the correct pronunciation.

The first one the best of series, and it was also the first horror flick I got to see in the theater, I noticed it was quite the roller coaster ride for everyone in the cineplex as well.

While the film does owe some thanks to Scream's success in order to get made, the flick had been been sitting in development heck waiting to get made. But once Scream became a hit Columbia went through thier vaults for any unmade horror project ,and dug up this one. In fact, I also remember Disturbing Behavior had been bouncing around for awhile before Scream came along.

A Third I Still Know Installment Coming
Source: Filmjerk July 6, 2005

Filmjerk has learned that Sony's Screen Gems is moving forward on the third installment in the "I Still Know What You Did Last Summer" franchise, sans Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. Titled I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer, the film is expected to hit theaters in the fall of 2006. Here's how the site describes the story:

Four teens from a small Colorado town will be victimized by a phantom menace one year after a July Fourth prank gone awry kills one of their buddies. Against the protestation of one of them, the group agree to keep this secret, only to find their friendships torn apart from the strain. The next Independence Day, just before the town's annual carnival, the four receive intimidating communiqués indicating someone is aware of what happened before. The group suspect the cousin of the dead friend, only to discover they are very much on the wrong track. Can the friends survive and figure out the identity of their tormentor before they end up dead themselves?

Filming will begin in Utah at the end of August, under the direction of helmer Damon Santostefano (Three to Tango), from a script by Michael Weiss.

Its basically the same as the first with different people.

Oh man...yeah it would!! I'd die to see some of the classics on the big screen. Last friday the 13th (someday in May) I was in Hamburg (here in Germany) and they showed some of the Friday the 13th movies at the theatres. Since I only was there on vacation, I couldnt see any...but that was a great idea.

I saw it in the theater and remember the night well. I went with my mom (yeah, whatever) and it was in the theater in the mall. We had dinner at a restaurant in the mall and then watched the movie. I remember when the guy opens his eyes in the water, everyone screamed. It was awesome.

We also spoke with Don Shanks, who you may remember played Michael Myers in "Halloween 5". Don announced that he had been cast as the Fisherman in "I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer", but he did not reveal any other casting information on the project.

Ah okay gotcha. I agree alot of films should be shown in cinemas, but not all of them. Some of them just don't have what it takes and the quality and everything in between. I do know of a many DTV movies that in my opinion should've been released theatrically though.

If this bit of info is true then the third I KNOW film follows a different group of teens and a different firsherman killer, having little to no relation with the events of the first two films:

"Four teens from a small Colorado town are victimized by another masked killer a year after a July 4th prank goes wrong; killing one of their own. They make a pact to keep the information a secret, until the next Independence Day before the town's annual carnival, when the four begin to receive intimidating messages indicating that someone knows about what happened."

the beautiful 26 year-old Jennifer Love Hewitt (I Know What You Did Last Summer) took a minute out of her chaotic intro to talk one-on-one with B-D. Although we basically talked about random nonsense, she did tell us that she will not be making an appearance in the upcoming I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer. I Know What You Did Last Summer's novelization is tedious and complicated, but the movie isn't nearly on the same level. With that said, however, the film itself is no Scream. This is the kind of movie Scream derides the hell out of with a vengeance. The mundane sequel the company shits out a year later is just boring rubbish. The entire film is this: lead heroine wins a bogus trip to an island, brings her friends along, murderer dispatches of staff by violent methods, murderer pursues lead heroine & friends throughout the island resort as they keep reiterating like clockwork that such a thing could not really be happening. The title itself is even flat. I have more taste in my penis. It's like Williamson created one good horror flick by surveillance of timeless classics & created a run-of-the-mill horror flick by watching indefinite, unparalleled shit fests.

I just watched the first one and it's still pretty entertaining to me. I thought the story moved along pretty naturally, unlike part 2's rediculousness. I also liked the pacing of part 1, as well as the atmosphere. There's a scene early in the movie where Julie is sitting in her home, in the dark, holding the letter that she recieved earlier in the day. Outside the wind is blowing and knocking tree branches about. It's a really short scene, but it creates a creepy mood for the movie. I still don't get how people like the second movie though. To me, it's one of the worst sequels ever made.

Here is the first review for I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer, from Bloody-Disgusting (http://www.bloody-disgusting.com/index.php?Show=5439&Template=newsfull).

It’s odd to me writing a review of the new Sony Home Entertainment picture, I Know What You Did Last Summer part 3 mainly because that isn’t the title. The invite said it was, but the screen showed “I Will Always Know What You Did Last Summer” and IMDB has the film under the slightly less clunky sounding “I’ll Always Know What You Did Last Summer”. I almost feel bad about writing a review for a film the title of which I’m not quite sure.

Quick history lesson; about 8 years ago, Jennifer Love Hewitt starred in a lackluster little horror film called “I Know What You Did Last Summer” (with the nifty little abbreviation “IKWYDLS”, catchy, isn’t it) alongside Freddie Prize Jr. the movie went on to gross over 70 million in theaters. She redeemed herself with work in the amazingly rewatchable “Can’t Hardly Wait” while Freddie Prize Jr. made “Wing Commander”. A few years later, “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer” appeared on the scene. No one really liked it, and it didn’t make too much money, so the series seemed all but dead.

But this is 2005 people! We’re remaking movies while the original director is still alive! It’s obviously time for a third venture into the “I Know” universe. Oddly, this film has absolutely nothing to do with the first two, except that the middle of it plays like a high school play version of the original, and I’m not talking about a high school of performing arts play either. The film starts out with five friends, we know they’re friends because they’re all hanging on each others arms and laughing and taking photos and apparently tripping on acid (at least, that’s what the editing lead me to believe) at the county fair. Everything is very loud, and the colors are all over saturated. We get quick cuts and random tidbits of visuals that look like someone just tied the camera to a rope and swung it around in circles.

Then the movie makes its best decision- the fisherman is just a legend in this film (which makes the idea of a fisherman stalking around in Colorado slightly less silly), taking a page from the often maligned ‘Urban Legend’ series (note: Ironically, the Killer in this movie also starred in Urban Legends 3). The friends board a ferries wheel and tell the story of the fisherman, which comes off as a remarkably boring ghost story. After the get off the ride, the fisherman shows up. People run away as they don't know what to do when a man wielding a giant hook is chasing them. Only here, one kid runs away… on his skateboard. Then he decides to hide on the roof of the three-story parking structure in the middle of the Colorado wastelands. The fisherman finds him, but the resourceful young lad escapes by riding his skateboard down the side of the concrete barrier, doing some ‘phat’ tricks along the way.

But, not all is as it seems, which is always how it seems to be in this type of movie. The fisherman was just one of the friends dressed up and everyone saw their friend pull his phat skateboarding move. Unfortunately, instead of landing, their friend was impaled on some kind of large metal pole and now because his father is the police chief they have to hide the evidence or go to jail forever.

A year passes, and the friends don’t hang out anymore. Things are going well for some, and poorly for others. Some got dumped, some become manic depressives; you know, the usual post high school stuff. They’re all back in town and meet up again when someone starts sending them threatening…text messages; 50 of them saying ‘I know what you did last summer’, a phrase which is spoken much too often during the film, to hilarious effect.

Soon, people start dying, friendships are torn apart and the whole thing comes to a climax that couldn’t have made less sense if it turned out that Jennifer Love Hewitt was actually the killer. I won’t spoil the ending for you, but let me just say, that it was a gut buster.

The editing in this film is ridiculous. Every three minutes there is a loud jump noise. It’s worse than ‘Boogeyman’ in that respect. Even scene transitions have loud crashing noises. We go for character talking to each other and smash cut to…nature imagery. Unfortunately, the nature pictures serve no plot point and take up about 10 minutes of screen time, and aren’t very interesting to look at. The colors are all washed out and over exposed too, which doesn’t help anything.

Luckily, the movie was nice and bloody. A veritable ‘goregasm’ as my friend calls it. By far the bloodiest of the three and I appreciated that. The movies one saving grace is that the gore level in it is just wonderful. And all done with prosthetics, no CGI gore. The characters are totally unlikable, so, when they die, you don’t feel sad for them. And the plot contrivances plod along making you laugh.

Overall, it’s an amusing diversion. It had the audience in stitches the whole way through (intentionally and otherwise) and features the line “you’re lucky you have a chainsaw, dush!”, which I think sums up the movie pretty well. If you laugh at that, you’ll probably enjoy the film. If not…you probably don’t enjoy cheesy fun anyway, in which case I don’t know why you bothered reading this at all.

3/10 as a movie
7/10 as pure entertainment

Actually, it sounds like it might not be a bad dvd to rent as long as you keep your expectations to a minimum.
I thought the reviewer was way off on his assesment of the first IKWYDLS, though. It was a good movie, and hey, it made 70 million. That's an amazing box office take for a horror movie.

If it doesn't have anything to do with the first one, why would the title be "I'll Always Know..."?

If it doesn't continue with the original story, shouldn't it just be IKWYDLS 3?, What are they "always" gonna know, about the kid on the skateboard?

To me that's just stupid, but from the looks of it, the movie follows suit :p

Yeah, cashing in on a megahit from the previous year that appeals to the exact same audience will do that for you; The Grudge made the same benefit off The Ring that IKWYDLS did off of Scream.

The Grudge was a good movie, though.
A movie might have a good opening weekend just based on its apparent similarity to a previous hit, but to be able to sustain that is something else. The fact is that IKWYDLS opened with $15,818,635 and ended up raking in $72,219,395, which means that the bulk of its box office take was made after word of mouth had already gotten out. I can't imagine that it would have made that much money if most people thought it sucked.

LOL, That's exactly what I was thinking too,
I just didn't wanna be the one to say it :p

The second one just didn't do it for me, I thought the first was a really decent film. The atmosphere was amazing. Sarah Michelle did a great job, she made the mood that much better. I guess they all did good in their roles - but I'm not a big Jennifer Love Hewitt fan.

My favorites were Ryan and Sarah Michelle - of course, I am completely biased- Buffy used to be favorite show, and I think Ryan Phillipee is one of the hottest guys alive ;)

The second one wasn't terrible, but it was clearly rushed into theaters in order to capitalize on the success of the original. Most of the time, that doesn't work, (H5, anyone?), SAW 2 being a big exception.

I remeber why I didn't like I still know now.

I didn't really buy the whole He use to live on the island, watched his wife cheat, and then killed her.
Besides that In the first one the article about Suzie (Ben's daughter) it said she was survived by her fiance and Father. It didn't say anything about a brother
It just didn't fit with me.

That and I get extremely6 frustrated with the scene towards the end where Ben is sticking his hook hand through the glass - Jenifer has the axe, and instead of chopping his fucking arm off (which she was in completely in the position to do without getting to near him) She just stands there screaming
I scream at the TV everytime I watch that movie. Most frustrating scene in any horror I've ever seen.

He only had his arm in there for a second while she had the axe, not nearly long enough to get a decent shot in..

As for Will not being mentioned in the first film, he had changed his name and probably his identity.

The exposition of Ben's wife cheating on him because he beat her causing him to butcher her and pretty much lose any conscience toward cold-hearted murder is what grounded the character in reality, hence making him much more disturbing. It's one of the major things I loved about the movie.

Yeah i agree. Urban legend 3 was horrible. The "I Know" films are good and did veryg ood at box office. Doesn't make any sense for them to do a completely different story line and leave out the original characters. In an interview, JLH herself said she wouldn't mind doing it as it was brought before her. Even said they were gonna do wit with her and now its a completely different story line? Just messed up...

I was looking through this thread, and I don't know why I sorta bashed these films.

I Know What You Did Last Summer is probably the last horror film that was rated R and did very well at doing the suspensful stabbing scene without showing blade-to-body contact. That scene with Sarah Michelle was a very good horror movie scene. Very reminscent to the shower scene in Pyscho and the Judith scene in Halloween. The film had its own slow paced, clostrophobic style. Plus, that chase scene between Ben Willis and Sarah Michelle was very good. I liked it.

I Still Know What You Did Last Summer was very corny, soap opera type movie, but I just love how it pulled off the isolated, "no where to escape" feeling that island brought, but it still seems stupid how the movie series went from mystery suspense to random setting horror film.

She was extremely unhappy about what they did with the original. Her book was a mystery, not a horror, and if I remember correctly from when I read it years ago, noone was killed (except the guy they hit. Actually, in the book I think it was a kid...). I'm sure most of you know that her daughter was murdered and they never found the killer. So she wasn't thrilled about them turning her book into a slasher.
