I am wondering around what year does this story take place? Rob says it takes place in 1978 but everybody in the film is walking around with brand new cell phones. So does anybody know what the time frame is?

The first part definantley took place in the 70's. However you have to more less forget the error of leaping through time to present day. Though I have heard it is suppose to take place in mid 90's. But the cell phone design wouldn't add up. I just put it in present day.

Where did Rob say that? On the commentary he says that it's left open. It just "looks" like the 70's.

The cell phone that is used is a huge indicator of the time frame of the remake portion.

When it was first announced that Rob Zombie was going to be doing this movie he had an interview and he said the movie would take place in Haddonfield in 1978.

the first part took place in 90's and the second was 2007 although zombie ever stated that it was 2007 but it was he didnt want it to seem overly present

The whole movie is timeless but it seems to me that the beginning of the movie is 1978 and then when he breaks out, its 1995. So we go from the year that Halloween as released right up to where The Curse Of Michael Myers was released.

The movie couldn't be based in that time frame cause they show cars that are brand new and cell phones that didn't even exist until 2005.

It seems to me that it is very recent, yes, given the cell phone usage.

I remember cell phones that size when I was in high school in the late 90's.

What makes me wonder what time frame this was set in was that in the costumes for sale Michael had an t-shirt of Good Charlotte. Sure we don't see him wearing it, but maybe Rob really did want the film to be timeless.

To me, even though we skip 15 years ahead, it still looks the same to me.

And Myers growing 10 feet and his blond hair turning brown? WTF!

The only thing I can say about that is that shit changes.

The first portion does have a 70s feel (I mean, how about that guy the mother took home? lol) yet it's not enough to totally convince. Perhaps such things were just a nod to the 70s. Since the second portion is very modern, like said, I'm going to say it was present time and the beginning was early 90s. It's really the only logical possibility.

There is no way that the first part took place in the 90's Laurie. Daeg was wearing a Kiss T-Shirt and no kids his age would have been wearing that type of shirt in the mid 90's since they weren't popular then. Also in the 90's most boys would wear their hair very short compared to most back then who had it long in the movie. Except the bowl cut.

I always thought that was a little off as well. However, I have seen that happen to guys in real life. In movies, it seems a little less believable for some reason.

I would ahve to say late 90s even though it dosent add up the timeline is screwed up in this film!!!!!!!!

It's obvious the first part takes place in the seventies...1978. That's what was in the script, producers state this on the DVD. 17 years later would be mid-nineties. Rob says the film is set in a non-specific time frame.
