The Wicker Man, as I think of it, is a horror muscial. I'm not not saying that it has a chorus line, but the film is basicly a musical formed of 'folk' songs. How many of you have seen this film? And don't be a post whore and just say 'no.' It stars Christopher Lee, and he says this is probably his best role. I thought this film was 'crazy' at the end, but throughout the film you see an island full of people who have a 'crazy' religion.*
(They have sex in the streets at night, and naked little girls sing while jumping through a fire.) This is probably one of the most strangest, scary, and fun movies of the 70's.

I thought the same, didn't like it at all when I first watched it, but it stayed in my mind and I kept wanting to see it again, and so when I did I really liked it, now it's one of my favourites.

Yes.
Especially in his Dracula films he made in the early 70's.

That movie looks insane! Anything with weird cults creeps me out.

I watched it for the first time recently and i thought it was great, but i was getting really anoyed with the policemans closed minded christian views. I always seem to side with the wicked............

This is one movie I've been meaning to see. They always have a copy for sale for around $10. Is it worth a buy or should I track it down for a rental first?

You can get a signed version of the wooden edition from Ingrid Pitts website. Sure you can get it somewhere tho. I picked up a S.E with film cell etc for £8 and it was meant to be £40! Dumb Virgin staff priced it wrong!

I'm a big Wicker Man fan. It's an awesome movie. I showed it to my friend, who said it was boring, and made no sense. Bah! Fool! This movie was intriguing as all hell. Anything with Pagan themes seems to interest me though. lol

I think i heard there was gonna be a remake of this and then thought for some reason that Lee played a detective in it. and that's what peeked my interest. I think i rented it first before buying it. The ending is haunting. I would hate to be in that position at the end. Strange and awesome movie. Those who haven't seen it might wanna rent first. SEE IT!

I was wondering if anyone knew what scenes were cut from the movie to make the US Extended cut only 99 minutes when it is supposed to run somewhere around 104 minutes? 5 minutes is alot in when it comes to film time. I have the US theatrical cut and the extended cut but I would like to know what scenes are missing.

IMDB should tell you about the deleted scenes in the alternate versions part of the Wicker Man page.

Good movie, but too focused on sex.

It only listed those in the extended version which only runs 99 minutes, not the full 104.

Like the original. Great ending. The whole movie had such a weird feel to it. As mentioned before, Lee was outstanding.

Not interested in the remake. Looks from the previews they made it more of a ghost story than anything else.

I haven't ever seen this movie but after hearing about the remake I looked into the original a bit and now I do want to see it. The only thing is is that all the DVD's available today are the 88 minute version (can't find the wooden box SE anymore, well at least not cheap...at all)

The version I picked up yesterday was the 88 minute version and it was good enough. If I ever come across the SE for a good price,I'll get it but if I don't then I'm happy with what I have.

The remake is in the cinema from tomorrow here in the UK.I don't expect it too be anywhere near as good as the original but i will go & see it at some point.

Original defies any kind of specific label, except Cult Classic. AS for the remake, well, with the current track record for remakes as of late, my expectations will be low.

I've heard all about this movie but haven't seen it yet. I'm sure I would enjoy watching it. Now I wish I had since the remake is coming out.

ok i'm back from the viewing and i'll rate it with a d+. my first request or recommendation to everyone - please see the original before the remake!!!

now for my review, it is heavily spoilerish so you have been warned.
first off the christianity vs. paganism isn't there at all. which was the whole premise of the original and what made the original better. the body in the coffin wasn't a rabbit but a doll with a burnt face. they changed the cop's name, which isn't a big deal. but then we find out that willow used to engaged to cage's character and well she was the one with the daughter. well cage's character and willow had rowan. yes you read that right. so this is against the original where the cop was a virgin and came looking for the daughter of the postal worker. this movie is stating he had a child out of wedlock. the island was mostly of women, and all of the roles of the original where men were the women were, and there were barely any men but only for reproduction and the males it looked like had their tongues cut out so they were docile. then other premise of the remake was the basis of the beehives. they made their own honey and the main leader of the isle was summerisle but was a women. thus being the queen of the island or hive and the men were drones. the end of the movie went with the daughter lighting the wicker man first and being younger than the original girl. the original girl was 12, this one was about 5-6, maybe 8. then the women all talked saying burn the drone.

It wasn't screened for critics either so that score doesn't surprise me.

Yes-means the studios don't really have that much faith in the film...

Most of the time anyways. Crank wasn't screened for critics and it was a damn good movie and has been getting pretty good reviews for what it is.

I hear ya. Usually when its not screened for critics, it sends up red flags. I don't put much faith in film critics any more. Seem like they are a dime a dozen. Would rather get feedback from folks on a board just like this! :)

BTW- Crank looks like a pulse-pounder. :yeah:

This is my favourite film of all time. They can remake what they like, but this will always remain a classic.
