Bettman media Q&A transcript
Sept. 15, 2004
NEW YORK - The National Hockey League's Board of Governors today unanimously reconfirmed that NHL teams, upon the expiration of the Collective Bargaining Agreement at midnight tonight, will not play again until there is a new economic system.
Following today's meeting in New York, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman addressed the media. Excerpts from the address follow:
"For the past several years, as flaws in the current economic system have become increasingly difficult to overcome, we at the National Hockey League have done everything possible to negotiate a new Collective Bargaining Agreement that works, day-in and day-out, to serve the best interests of all involved.
"Sadly, those efforts have not achieved their objective. And as the League stands at the threshold of the conclusion of the current CBA, which occurs at midnight tonight, it is my somber duty to report that at today's meeting, the Board of Governors unanimously re-confirmed that NHL teams will not play at the expiration of the CBA until we have a new system which fixes the economic problems facing our game.
"This action is not taken lightly -- or eagerly -- and when the Union wants to stop the posturing and acknowledges that the problems are as real as our Governors' resolve to fix them, we will be here, ready to make a fair and meaningful agreement that will usher in a new era for our game."
* * *
"Twenty of our Clubs are losing money. There have been too many bankruptcies and too many other close calls. I have had too many owners tell me they will get out of this game if the economics are not repaired."
* * *
"It is a fact -- a fact -- that during this CBA, a team in the top one-third in salaries has been three times more likely to make the playoffs than a team in the bottom third. That is a status quo with which we simply cannot continue to live. Our game and our fans deserve better."
* * *
"There is no short-cut or quick fix. We need an enforceable, defined relationship between revenues and expenses. We need a system that will eliminate the disparities in payrolls, so that a team's ability to compete depends on its team-building skills, not on its ability to pay.
"We believe that such a business model can and must be crafted in a partnership that creates shared rewards."
* * *
"In July, we offered the union six different, creative, ground-breaking methods by which those partnership objectives could be attained.
"Included in those frameworks was a willingness for the players to receive more than 50% of every dollar of revenues our business generates. It may be less than the players are getting now, but we won't apologize for an offer that is more than fair.
"We offered the Union systems that would continue to pay multi-million dollar salaries to our star players. We will not apologize for contracts which could still be in excess of $6 million per year, even if some players would make less than they are now getting.
"We offered the Union systems that would provide an average player salary of $1.3 million, U.S., per season. An average salary of $1.3 million may be less than the players are getting now, but we will not apologize for an average player salary of $1.3 million per season.
"That said, we do apologize to our millions of fans and the thousands of people whose livelihoods depend on our game. It is truly unfortunate that we have to go through this. I assure you that no one is more unhappy about this situation than I am.
"My pledge, at this difficult moment, is that we will correct this untenable situation the right way -- not with Band-Aids and half-measures, but in a way that will ensure the health and excitement of our game for years to come. This game's future depends upon getting the right economic system. In the absence of such a system, there is no future for our game. As difficult as today is, the reality is, we had no choice in the face of the Union's continued refusal to address economic problems that are clear to everyone but them."
* * *
"There is a partnership deal to be made. We encourage the leadership of the players' union to join us in partnership."
* * *
"We owe it to hockey's fans to achieve an economic system that will result in affordable ticket prices and stable, competitive franchises. The very future of our game is at stake, and the NHL's owners are united, as never before -- determined to do everything humanly possible to bring hockey's economic system into the 21st century. We have no other choice."

I don't really follow Hockey so alot of what's going on i don't understand but i know it has alot to do with money, which it always does so my view on the whole matter as well as with all the other times players and such go on strike because of money issues, my statement is "Oh well..you want more than $2 MILLION dollars a year or you'll go on strike!!!!!! Get a fuckin job at 7-11 for $5 an hour and see how $2 MILLION looks then...asshole".

I am a hockey fan and am extremely dissappointed by this decision. I remember the last lockout during the 94-95 season. I just hope that this lockout is resolved quickly, but it doesn't look too good.
This lockout will go for at least a year, neither side will want to be seen as caving in. It may being a good thing, and get rid of some of the teams that shouldn't be there.

well, maybe it's for the best. get rid of some teams and the league won't be as watered down. then maybe we can have some 50 goal scorers and 100 point men again. god it is hard to score 30 right now. the goalies are great but there is not enough players to go around. get rid of some teams = most useless players will be gone. more talented players = more offense.
sad as it sounds this will help the NHL.

There's nothing sad about it, there's a bunch of ham and eggers who shouldn't even be in the league. The only reason they got out of the minors is to fill expansion clubs.
There's a reason why leagues like the NHL, NBA, MLB, and NFL are the pros. That's because only the best should be there, and that's not the case in the NHL right now.
That's one of the reasons why it's suffering.

Hockey is now facing the same problems baseball did. With major market teams having the biggest share of the pie.It causes the smaller market teams to lose money or move.Example Winnipeg,Quebec and Hartford.Sad part is this kick ass sport was made famous in Canada, only to be drained and locked out ,by greedy american owners...

This really sucks, I love Hockey and always order the NHL Package so I can watch like 5 games or more a night. I hope it gets resolved.
the lockout is now 109 days old, and the season may be cancelled on january 14 by the owners. it doesn't look good.
It's done like dinner. Just enjoy what's left of the world junior championships, and watch the minor league stuff.
I'm not missing it as much as I thought, and the players and owners will realize that many others will feel the same way.

Some Canadian fans will come back, but I'm sure the league and union will be surprised by how many will stay away. With football winding down, and NHL done those fans will find something else.
They can't afford much more disinterest, and that's what they already have in the states. Canada will follow at this rate, especially since they're sick of watching millionaires fighting billionaires.

Sidney Crosby is the one touted to be the next big thing right now. It won't matter though if there isn't a draft for a team to pick him though. :(
Also even though Gretzky's retired, anything he says about the situation would have some clout. It's just that he used to be a player, and now he's an owner.
Compromising position.

Well if some big name players, would come out.And say the lockout needs to end.For the sake of the fans. Then maybe it could survive. But right now,its on life sport as a sport in the united states. With Canada its their passion. So it wouldnt surprise me ,if a Canadian league started up...

I doubt we will see replacement players. Who wants to see that crap. They have said that this could go on anywhere from 3 years or even forever. That would leave us with the AHL. The next highest league of hockey thats out there today.

As far as it's looking now probably not. The owners have said though that there will be a season next year no matter how they have to do it. By that logic you'd think they're going to use replacememnt players.

Truth be told, if the PA has a problem with "scabs", they should talk to the players who took jobs from people in the European leagues, and the minors in North America.
They talk of solidarity, but 400 of them went overseas to not practice what they preach.

To show you how fed up us canadian fans our with the players, they had a charity game with nhl players in Red Deer, Alberta a few nights ago and i think like 200 fans showed up in a 5000 seat arena. I hope they see that theyve killed the nhl in the u.s.

Ryan Smyth canceled the rest of that charity tour as well. Fans are really turned off, and there was even booing at the event in Red Deer as well.
Mostly for Mike Comrie, and his issues with the Oilers last season. Hopefully those players take something away from that experience, especially since they won't get a better deal than has already been offered. With the loss of revenue from one season gone, you're not going to get the same kind of coin.

I'm truly sorry about bringing back this thread, but I had to ask this question and I figured, this thread is abput Hockey and this relates to hockey so I would ask it here, instead of creating a single thread and having it get closed.
My question relates to the Stanely Cup.
Many fans are infuriated because what should have been the most anticipated and hyped time of the year has been completely wiped out by the cancellation of the season.
And one of them is doing something about it.
A Toronto lawyer named Tim Gilbert has filed a claim against the N.H.L. and the trustees of the Stanley Cup. He’s representing a group called the Wednesday Nighters, some recreational players, who want the Ontario Superior Court to force those in charge of hockey’s most sacred symbol to free up the Cup for alternate tournaments.
Their claim centres on how the original Lord Stanley made the prize available in 1892, and his wish that it be awarded every year to the best team in hockey.
But there was no N.H.L. then, and in their collective mind, that 'every year' stipulation means the League has no claim on it if it’s not going to give it out.
“It's an application in Ontario court to declare that the Stanley Cup is held on trust for the benefit of all hockey,” Gilbert explains. “We also want the court to declare the fact that the N.H.L. season has been cancelled doesn't mean that the Cup can't be awarded, and in fact that the trustees have a duty and obligation to award the Cup.”
Governor General Adrienne Clarkson had previously suggested the trophy should have been made available as the top prize for women’s hockey. But that idea was rejected.
Gilbert believes someone should be able to go for the Cup, which has only missed being awarded once in history. That was during the lethal flu epidemic of 1919.
But right now the only ones who are feeling sick are the fans.
Officials have repeatedly turned down any plans to share hockey’s Holy Grail. Cup trustee Brian O’Neill insists an iron clad agreement with the N.H.L. stipulates only that league can compete for Lord Stanley's Mug.
And that’s something not even a court decision or the ire of fans can change.
It may all be a moot point – the case isn’t scheduled to be heard until July 18th, although the legal team is trying to get that moved up to May.
What is your opinion regarding the Stanley Cup where do you think it belongs and why?
atomic dog
04-14-2005, 04:39 AM
wow. i didn't know this was happening. my question is: if the cup is available for all hockey, which league gets it? they all have their won cups to win so where would the stanley cup fit in?
The cup going to the best team in hockey was way back when. I believe that when the NHL was formed, the league became custodian of the cup. The only team that should get it, should be an NHL one.
If we have to wait longer for that to happen, so be it.

In your opinion guys, what do you think the league needs to do to make sure we don't get into this kind of situation again?
I am sure they are working around a way that will prevent this from becoming a future problem.
All and all I am happy as a hockey fan and hope that we never have to face problems like this again in the future, as a Canadian, Hockey means alot to me, its apart of my culture.
Ps. Who do you think should get Sidney Crosby, I don't really know myself who I would pick. I would say at least a top team.
Every team has a shot at landing Crosby. Some have a better chance, but he can go anywhere.

Here in Detroit we live and breath Wings, and you don't know how hard it is to not see any Red and White sweaters skating around the Joe for a whole year. Right now the Wings have a big problem, with the new cap we have to choose who we want to stay and who to let loose and that isn't easy in Hockeytown.

Also picked up tickets to the home opener against the Colorado Avalanche. Should be interesting to see how this team is without some of it's key guys, and new rules in place.

No idea, though I could see Philly coming out of the East (on paper mind you, a lot can happen). I doubt the Bolts will go on to win again though, while they still got a lot of their team, they lost the one guy who matters the most in Nikolai Khabibullin.

Since Khabibulin went to Chicago, the Bolts goalies are John Grahame and Sean Burke.
Once again, on paper, I'd have to say the Eastern team to beat is Philly. As for the West, it's a little hard to call right now. The teams in the West have always been better. :)

Time to bring this thread back. What the hell happened with the Sabres last night? They lost 10-4 against the Senators! They didn't play well at all. They just stood around and just tried to stick check which obviously didn't work. Biron hurt his hand at the Pre-Game skate earlier yesterday and couldn't play so Miller played for the first half of the first period then Noronen came in.

I know it's still early, but The Leafs are finding themselves in a world of trouble, Even with Eric Lindros in the Line up, The Leafs
don't have what they need to take control. I've heard alot of things about how The rules are working against them, and they can't play according to the new rules. As a Torontonian I am waiting for that time when I can celebrate A leaf Stanley cup win, but if the leafs continue to play the way they are, they are'nt going to even get to the Play offs, but hey it's too early, so I am hoping that they will continue to improve and see how far they advance.

They did CPR for over 4 minutes (which w/out air that long you're brain dead). He was breathing on his own though.

Man when I came home from work last night, the first thing my Dad told me was that Jiri collapsed on the floor. I couldn't believe it...
He wasn't hit with anything, his heart just stopped. He was brought back to life right there on the floor next the bench, and was taken to the Hospital. They of course called the game (I like Nashville now, the whole team didn't want to play either). Jiri is ok now, but will stay at the hospital for a few days to run some tests. He has had a history of heart problems, and is only 25:(

Im happy the NHL season is back. Im a huge Hockey fan, i missed it. I had to settle for the AHL which isnt bad but they dont have as many televised games. I like that its back. Some of the rules were changed though. I can handle most of them because they make the game flow better and try to make it more exciting. But there is a draw back, there are more penalties being called and it is just outrageous. I agree with what Stevie Y was saing about it. No wonder why he turned down a position for the winter Olympics. But hockey is here and im down with it.

I cannot believe the Wings game tonight. It was the first game this season that I actually sat down and watched...and what a game to do that. If you didn't hear Detroit was losing 2-0 with under a minute left when Kris Draper scored off a deflection on a power play, 2-1. Then with 7 seconds left Lidstrom took a slap shot and scored! Tying the game up and putting us into overtime.
Overtime was back and forth until the end where it was a 3-on-3 with about thirty seconds left. After some smart passing Datsuk scored with not even one second left. I mean he scored with barely a tenth of a second. So frigin exciting! I haven't been that excited during a hockey game in a I don't know how long.

Honestly, that was just a lucky goal. I don't think he was even trying to get that into the net. I guess it's amazing. But I really don't see what the big deal is. When you're a good hockey player (which I'm sure he is or he wouldn't even be in the NHL) you have an extremely strong sense of where the goal is at all times. He was more or less just trying to get a shot on goal. The puck going into the net was just pure luck. Nothing amazing about it.
Yeah, it's my opinion and I guess I sound like a bitch, but oh well.

Maybe he wasn't trying to make it in, he probably was just trying to get a shot off but the fact that it went in is amazing. You just don't see goals like that. I played Hockey for about 7 years (or so) and it's still hard enough to get a goal, let alone do something like that. Even if he just took a pot shot, he still put it up on the blade and shot it towards the net. Under the circumstances it was pretty damn good, lucky or not. But that's just you're opinion, you see the video in a different way that I perceieve it, it doesn't make you a bitch.

I don't think it was worth it. I am writing them off. Between the strike, and Bostons Management sucking big time, I am taking a break from Hockey. They are so cheap. They never want to pay for talent, so they lose good players, or they trade the good players they do have because they are not winning, due to the fact they don't want to pay. Idiots. I don't get the Flyers. They always start great, taper off near the end, and blow it in the post. A shame though, because I like them. They usually end up facing speed teams, and for all the skill, and size they have, the Flyers lack speed.

The ownership, and GM there are a bunch of idiots. They didn't think enough of one of the best guys playing in Joe Thornton, and now he helped San Jose secure a playoff berth.
They also sent Sergei Samsanov to us, and he's had points in almost every game since the trade.
There's an organization in need of a major overhaul.
On another note, one of the latest douchebag players has been dealt with. :D
Kings send Sean Avery packing after the scrappy forward's latest controversy
PHOENIX (CP) - The curtain has closed on Sean Avery's controversial act in Los Angeles.
The volatile forward did not accompany the Kings to Phoenix for a game with the Coyotes on Thursday and, according to the Los Angeles Times, will never play with the team again. The end came after an argument with assistant coach Mark Hardy during practice Wednesday. Avery met with general manager Dave Taylor and interim coach John Torchetti.
The Times quotes a Kings spokesman as saying Avery was not suspended, but he will not play in the final three games of the regular season or in the playoffs should the team manage to qualify.
"We're moving on without him," the spokesman said. "We have informed Sean of this."
The 26-year-old Pickering, Ont., native is a well-known enforcer but receives even more notoriety for his opinions off the ice.
In September, Avery made derogatory comments about French-Canadian players after then-Coyote defenceman Denis Gauthier hit the Kings' Jeremy Roenick in an exhibition game. Avery issued an apology after receiving a reprimand from the NHL.
During a game against Edmonton in October, the Oilers' Georges Laraque, who is black, accused Avery of using a racial slur. Avery denied the allegation.
Even his teammates grew weary of Avery. They stood by him when former coach Andy Murray benched him in January. But many privately turned against him last week after Avery's obscenity-laced tirade at Brian Hayward, the Ducks' television commentator.
Avery finishes the year with 15 goals, 24 assists and 257 penalty minutes.
The thing is, this guy can be good, hee's just too much of a shit disturber, and not in the right away.

As of late his greatest accomplishment is landing Elisha Cuthbert. :p
Sean Avery is an idiot.....so the Kings did the best thing for their Hockey club.....Even Kings's Luc Robitaille said (laughing like good old Luc does often) that they are use to Sean acting like an idiot....but i guess for the Kings it was enough is enough.

They're going to have a shake up, there's no way to avoid it after this season. Especially after such poor management decisions, and two of their trades being extremely valuable to the teams they sent them to.
With them being an original six team, this kind of suckage won't be an option to continue with.

The best part about that (for me) is that I have tickets to both the Pistons and Wings in the playoffs. Which means I would have tickets to the finals for both :D
But I just hope the Wings don't go into any overtime play during this year's playoffs, they were horrible in extra time this past regular season. Does anybody know if the shootout rule continues over into post season? Because if it does then we're screwed... I mean I cannot count how many times Legace got burned on some of those dekes.

I'm glad the Habs won't end up facing the Sens to open. At least that way a Canadian team isn't certain for a first round exodus. :p
How about the Devils though, stinking it up a few weeks ago, and they rally back to take the division. I'd have to say that the sleepers this year would be Buffalo, and San Jose.
Should be an exciting post-season! :D

well its official: 1st round is the senators and the lightning! MAN would I be feeling a LOT better if the Lightning ended up playing Carolina. I do NOT give them a whole lot of a chance against Ottawa. But they are the defending champs and will NOT go down without a fight! they WILL make it entertaining, I feel. Also, when you see a series as lopsided as this one, in favor of Ottawa in so many ways, that could spell trouble for the favorite. They start to believe their own hype and overestimate their chances. Psychologically I hope that IS what happens!

Hell yeah! That's great for Buffalo. They seem to have gotten their act together after their horrendous start of the season. Hell, they killed Ottawa the last two times they played them, which in turn Ottawa killd them the first two times they played. Buffalo has a good shot this year if they can keep up the good work and not get lazy and screw off.

The Wings SUCKED, plain and simple today. Actually find time to watch them and they lose. The Oilers are just playing so much harder then us, we need to step it up.
Hopefully later tonight the Pistons can change my mood around...
The Oil palyed a lot better today. Roloson wasn't the only guy to show up this time, and they can play well against the Wings. I still don't expect them to win the series, but I expect them to leave them hurting for the next one.
A split was what they needed to not have this be a blowout, so I was really happy with how they did. I had this pegged for going about 6 games.
As of ysterday most of the series have evened themselves out. Most importantly the Godless calgary flames go back to Anaheim with a split. :p
Hopefully that trend can be broken with the Habs going up 2-0 on Carolina tonight. :D Shaping up to be hard fought playoff race, just the way I like it. :)
An odd little trend happening it seems. The games being played today are all series in which everyone seems to be up 2 games to none. On the other hand the other group have all come back to tie series one all.
Some exciting ones today with both Montreal, and the Avs leading by 3, giving up that lead, and coming back to win in OT. Double OT in the Montreal game, and both winners being the lower seeds.
When it comes to the Philly Buffalo series, it seems the Flyers are doing their annual playoff choke quite early. Completely humiliated by the Sabres, and now going back to a very unhappy home crowd in Philly down by 2. Even Ken Hitchcock told reporters to tell Buffalo coach Lindy Ruff to go F#%k himself. :p
As for the Rangers....who didn't expect the Devils to spank them. :p Especially the way they've been on fire the last month. Jagr's injury just guarantees they won't get farther than this round.

I actually feel really bad about the Rangers sucking it up. I really expected them to do something this playoff season, but it seems as if they're gonna go 4 up and 4 down. Poor kids. :p

As disappointed as the two of you are, I was ecstatic with last nights result. It was a pretty intense game. Lots of back and forth, and little to no trap as the Oilers were using in the first two games.
The Oilers are definitely showing the pundits that they can play against the Wings though, especially those first two periods. The thing is that the longer these games go, the more it hampers the Wings. They're all superb athletes, but the age factor gets you when you're almost playing 5 periods of run and gun hockey.
It looked like Stevie Y was hurt near the end too, and that's something I never like to see with that kind of player. Even if it bodes well for my team.
Tonight, I look forward to the Habs, Sabres, and Avs hopefully going up 3-0. :D

Aww. :( I think Manny is a FINE goalie. Those two wrap arounds last night were the fault of the two defensemen, not Manny. ;) Sure, it's his job to keep pucks out of the net, but it's not his job to defend what Chelios and Lidstrom should be defending. And I'd rather see Manny, Hasek and even Cujo in the net before I put Ozzie in there. He makes me nervous ALL THE TIME. lol
And just because the Oilers are up on us by one game does not mean we should throw the towel in. I think that game three was a turning point for the Wings. I have a feeling this series is gonna go 6 or 7 games. And ultimately the Wings will be winners. :)

I'm to the point where I want this Wings/Oilers series to be over with. I guess you can say that I lost faith, and that kills me to say that. I just don't think we have it in us to beat this team. They're obviously more hungry than we are, faster and stronger. I just hate that this may be Yzerman's last year and he has to go out like this. Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy he's won 3 cups, but he's just such a nice, genuine guy that you want him to win all the time. lol If the Oilers do in fact pull this off and win, congrats to them. Either way, they're going to have a hell of a time trying to beat the Avalanche. So, good luck to them. ;) If the Wings hold off and win, they'll also have a hard time playing the Avs. :p Is it so wrong to want my team to do well? I don't think so. C'mon Wings, win, damnit. Man did you speak the truth Ash... I don't know what is going on with the Wings. Nobody is really playing up to par and I find myself just mindboggled (yes boggled) to the reason why. Legace... I dunno. That wrap around in Game 3, and now both shots tonight through the five hole? There is no excuse but he's is still playing good enough to beat this team. Shanny is the one that I'm very pissed off about. Whenever he gets out on the ice he does absolutely shit. Touches the puck, skates in a circle, and then loses the puck skating off back to the bench. At least Cheli is playing with some spirit, even if that means getting sent to the box. Cross checking that dipwad Symth (or whatever) in the face is good in my book.

HAHA... yes:D I'm so relived to see the Wings pull through this one. We needed a win, and they did deliver the goods. Glad to see Datsuk step it up and recover from his injury setting Zetterburg up real nice. And boy did Zetterburg school Roloson out of his pants!:) Exactly what I wanted to see. Lidstrom goal was ridiculous, I'm tired seeing the Oilers pulling those dives all over the place. The refs were officiating this game tight and it was great to see them not call anything there (but there was some crap officiating tonight also).
And poor Cleary, he's not playing bad at all and then Pronger just smoked him. I bet that hurt.

I don't know why he does it, he's just been doing it as long as I can remember. There has to be some pictures, or another kind of blackmail going on. :D
The crowd being loud, and crazy is nothing new here though. They just bbroke a decibel record with the fandemonium hitting 108 decibels. A new record for the Oiler fans. :)
As for cheering, don't stop cheering for your team until they're legitimately out of competition, then you can cheer for the Oilers. It's not over yet.
What you can do is cheer for whomever is playing against those godless, disgusting, child eating, Calagary Flames. :)
On another note, so long Tampa Bay. Ottawa gets to the second round, and this is a great boost for their goalie Ray Emery. He probably expected to watch Hasek from the bench this year, and is now proving himself solid.
The question is, will they pull him in favor of The Dominator when he's ready to go?

I don't know, but they shouldn't. It's always my understanding that you get your goalie on a winning streak and ride him out to the end of the playoffs.

I think pulling a winning goalie is a lot like the situation that the Bears (NFL) were in this past year. They had a rookie QB that won 10 games or so and then pulled him for the veteran QB who just came back from being hurt. It seemed to work there. I guess it's just a matter of what you think. I think you leave the proven winner in.

My favorite thing about hockey is how many fights break out in each game lol.
Go to www.video.google.com for hallarious hockey fights
I agree with the idea of go with who's winning the games. At this point I think Emery has earned the right to start when Hasek is ready to come back.
Only if he goes on a skid in round 2 do you pull him out.
As for today, so long Stars. :D

Wow. The guys in Toronto blew that call. Hemsky CLEARLY kicked that puck in with his foot. If that bad call causes us to lose the fucking game - wow, I'll be pissed.

Wow... if that's not the biggest bullshit call in all of sports then I don't know what else it would be. Hey, let's have these Canadian officials talk to the other Canadian officials up top so they can call some more Canadians in Toronto to see if this Canadian team scored by kicking the puck in the net.
And the NHL wants to be popular again...
I'm at work, so I didn't get to see the contested goal. Once I see the highlights later on, I'll chime in.

The thing is I don't really care that the Wings lost. They didn't deserve the series win, the Oilers just skated harder and played with more spirit. I'm just pissed that Legace actually played A LOT better then how he's been, and the game gets tied with a crap goal like that. That wasn't a goal at all, Hemsky cleary was making a kicking motion when the puck went it.
And then having the Canadian officials talk to the other Canadian officials up top so they can call some more Canadians in Toronto to see if this Canadian team (who hasn't won a cup in a good while I might add)scored by kicking the puck in the net was just pure BS.

I can honestly say that I am not bitter. Edmonton was the better team. I wish them luck and extend my congratulations to them on their continuing road to the Stanley Cup. They may have a few dirty players, but what hockey team doesn't? lol Hmmm, I guess they play Colorado, so they'll need all the luck in the world. :p
I'm not bitter but I am so sad right now. lol If this was in fact Steve Yzerman's last hockey game - I'm just so sad. :( That man is a legend. He's a truly classy man. Never once has a bad word been spoken about him. He's genuine, talented and amazing. I'd like to think athletes are invincible and that they never get old. I'd like to think that about him. lol I'll never forget what he's done for this team and the city of Detroit. I'll never forget what he's done for me personally. He is a role model for me. And I'm not scared or embarrassed to admit that. I wish him nothing but success in life and I thank him for being him.[/end sappy moment]
Yes, I'm lame. I can't help it. I love that man. Forget Gretzky, Yzerman's the greatest.

nope their no chance they'll play against Colorado in the next round, Edmonton finished 8th & Colorado 7th so the Oilers will play Calgary if they win their series against the Ducks...if not then the Oilers will Play San Jose....hope thats clear LOL:D
more simple:
Edmonton vs San Jose (if they Flames gets eliminated)
Edmonton vs Calgary (if Anaheim gets eliminated)
With Detroit & Dallas out.....Watch out for Colorado (and Theodore).

Nope, you mean watch out for Buffalo. They're gonna smoke the Flyers tonight.
